Yttria–doped ceria powder was prepared from oxalate precursors. The oxalate coprecipitation bath parameters were closely monitored and found to influence the sintering behavior of the subsequently obtained oxide powders strongly. The use of concentrated (Ce,Y) metal nitrate solutions and dilute neutralized oxalic acid for coprecipitation were identified as the most–important parameters. Following calcination at 700°C, compacts of such powders were sintered to high density (98%) at 1400°C (4 h). Ball milling of the powder further reduced the sintering temperature. Dry milling, for tape–casting applications of the powder in particular, was more effective than wet milling. Tape–cast membranes were fired at 1400°C (2 h), with resulting densities of 98%. 相似文献

Influence of molecular structure on propagation of positive streamer discharge in dielectric liquids

In this paper, streamer discharges in dielectric liquids which have various molecular structures, such as a double bond or a triple bond in the molecular formula, are observed in detail for positive point polarity under the application of an impulse voltage to the point electrode. As test liquids, four straight‐chain hydrocarbon liquids—n‐hexane, n‐heptane, n‐octane, and n‐decane—are selected and in addition the influence of a double or triple bond included in their molecular formula on the propagation of positive streamers is investigated in detail by simultaneously using a high‐speed schlieren method and an LED current measurement system. Some differences in the mean propagation velocity and the propagation shape of positive streamers are evident. Their shape is mainly filamentary in test liquids including a double or triple bond. Also, positive streamer propagation is promoted in these liquids. It is thought that this is due to the effect of π bonds which have smaller bond energies than σ bonds. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. BACKGROUND/AIMS: Activation of hepatic stellate cells plays a key role in liver fibrogenesis. Disruption of normal hepatic stellate cell-matrix interactions may contribute to this process. However, little is known about the molecular events leading from integrin-extracellular matrix interaction to hepatic stellate cell function. Therefore, we investigated the role of integrin signaling in tyrosine phosphorylation of focal adhesion kinase and cytoskeletal assembly in rat hepatic stellate cells using soluble Arg-Gly-Asp containing peptides. METHODS: Hepatic stellate cells were isolated from normal rat livers. Integrin alpha5beta1 expression in hepatic stellate cells was analyzed by immunoprecipitation and immunocytochemistry. The cytoskeletal assembly and tyrosine phosphorylation of focal adhesion kinase were determined by immunocytochemistry and immunoblotting. We also analyzed the effect of Arg-Gly-Asp containing peptides on the expression of smooth muscle alpha actin by immunocytochemistry and immunoblotting. RESULTS: We identified integrin alpha5beta1 in rat hepatic stellate cells. Stress fiber formation and cell shape were different when hepatic stellate cells were plated on various extracellular matrix components. Treatment of hepatic stellate cells with soluble Arg-Gly-Asp peptides diminished the adhesion-induced tyrosine phosphorylation of focal adhesion kinase and inhibited the formation of stress fibers. The peptides also reduced the expression of smooth muscle alpha actin. CONCLUSIONS: Our results demonstrate that adhesion to extracellular matrix induces tyrosine phosphorylation of focal adhesion kinase and promotes actin stress fiber formation and focal adhesion assembly in rat hepatic stellate cells, and that these events are disturbed by soluble Arg-Gly-Asp peptides. 相似文献

It is well known that some kinds of waste contain persistent organic pollutants (POPs) such as PCDD/DFs and PCBs. Leaching behaviors of these chemicals, however, have not been focused so much because of their low leachability. On the other hand, shredder residues originated from automobiles and electric appliances consist mainly of plastics, such as PVC, which contain additives including DEHP. In this study, contents analyses and leaching tests with and without surfactant-like substances for shredder residues were conducted. As a result, shredder residues from automobile and electric appliance contained PCBs in ppm level and a quantity of PCDD/DFs. Surfactant-like substances increase the leaching concentration of POPs. A 61-year-old female presented with a unique case of moyamoya disease associated with pulmonary sarcoidosis. She was admitted for sudden onset of left temporalgia with episode of numbness on face, tongue, and upper extremity on the right side. The next morning, she had symptoms of Gerstmann syndrome and her ability to speak was disturbed. Her medical history included radical resection of lung cancer on the right side. She had no symptoms of pulmonary sarcoidosis. Neuroimaging showed an infarction in the left occipital lobe. Angiography showed occlusions of the bilateral internal carotid arteries at the supraclinoid portions. Subsequently, a left superficial temporal artery-middle cerebral artery anastomosis with encephalo-myo-synangiosis was performed. Ninety-three days after admission, she suddenly developed dyspnea which resulted in death 3 hours later. Autopsy findings showed typical epithelioid granulomas of sarcoid type in the lymph nodes of the peribronchus, lung, and liver. Thrombotic emboli were found in the bilateral pulmonary arteries, and marked fibrous intimal thickening in the bilateral internal carotid arteries. Immunological reaction with inflammatory events may cause pathological changes in patients with moyamoya disease or sarcoidosis. The co-incidence in this case suggests that some common inflammatory events may be involved in the pathogenesis of these diseases. 相似文献

Background: Many synthetic polymeric membranes have been widely used for blood purification therapies for removing larger solutes and for better blood compatibility. Methods: Five different filters with polyester polymer alloy (PEPA) membrane (Nikkiso) that included polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), that is, standard‐pore‐size FLX (PEPA with PVP(–)), standard‐pore‐size FDX (PEPA with PVP(+)), new FDX (PEPA with PVP(++)), larger‐pore‐size FDY (PEPA with PVP(+)), and new FDY (PEPA with PVP(++)), were evaluated in terms of in vivo blood compatibility and aqueous in vitro sieving coefficient (s.c.) for albumin. Results: FDY showed excellent small changes in C3a concentration during the treatment right after switching from polysulfone membrane, leaving no significant changes in other blood‐compatible indices. New FDY, in contrast, showed less biocompatible characteristics in terms of C3a, which may be caused by increased use of PVP. FLX (no PVP) showed the highest s.c. for albumin. With a hydrophilic agent (PVP), the s.c. was greatly reduced in FDX. By enlarging the pore diameter in FDY, the s.c. increased in accordance with the enlargement. Generally speaking, polysulfone filters with PVP(+++) reach the peak s.c. value approximately 10 min after starting the experiment. The s.c. of the PEPA membrane with no or small amount of PVP, which showed excellent blood compatibility, never showed peaks, whereas the peak s.c. values were found in new PEPA with increased amount of PVP that showed higher C3a changes. Absorption and photocurrent properties of thin ZnS films formed by pulsed-laser deposition on quartz
The absorption and photocurrent properties of thin film ZnS on quartz glass formed by pulsed-laser deposition have been studied experimentally and theoretically at room temperature. Using the Lorentzian function to describe the exciton density of states, we show that the absorption is strongly influenced by excitonic formation. The theory for the absorption, however, does not describe the PC spectra of the film since the exciton remains electrically neutral up to fields of 1 kV/cm due to the high binding energy of 36 meV. Therefore, the fundamental absorption according to density of states and Urbach rule determines the shape of the photocurrent spectrum. 相似文献

Effect of environmental atmospheres on high-temperature deformation and fracture of Cu-SiO2 bicrystal with [001] twist 23 ° grain boundary, which was perpendicular to the tensile axis, was studied. Temperature dependence of ductility and strength on environmental atmospheres was remarkable. The ductility and strength become obviously lower in gas atmospheres than in vacuum. The fracture strain and fracture stress tended to decrease in the order of in vacuum, Ar and Ar + H2 atmospheres almost at all the temperatures. This is considered to be due to the faster nucleation and growth of voids accelerated by the fast supplement of gas atoms. Ductility minima was observed at around the intermediate temperature range in vacuum and Ar atmospheres, although bicrystals fractured transgranularly. Grain boundary does not fracture easily without the occurrence of grain-boundary sliding in vacuum and Ar atmospheres. 相似文献
