This report demonstrates a wearable elastomer‐based electronic skin including resistive sensors for monitoring finger articulation and capacitive tactile pressure sensors that register distributed pressure along the entire length of the finger. Pressure sensitivity in the order of 0.001 to 0.01 kPa?1 for pressures from 5 to 405 kPa, which includes much of the range of human physiological sensing, is achieved by implementing soft, compressible silicone foam as the dielectric and stretchable thin‐metal films. Integrating these sensors in a textile glove allows the decoupling of the strain and pressure cross‐sensitivity of the tactile sensors, enabling precise grasp analysis. The sensorized glove is implemented in a human‐in‐the‐loop system for controlling the grasp of objects, a critical step toward hand prosthesis with integrated sensing capabilities.  相似文献

This study compares the occurrence of antimicrobial resistance to erythromycin, ciprofloxacin, and tetracycline among 384 Campylobacter jejuni isolates from humans (245), fresh whole retail chickens (56), raw milk (33), and environmental water (41) collected between 2000 and 2003 in Québec, Canada. Resistance to ciprofloxacin was significantly more frequent in human isolates acquired abroad than in those acquired locally (50 versus 5.9%; P < 0.001); ciprofloxacin resistance was almost absent in water, chicken, and raw milk isolates. In contrast, resistance to erythromycin was significantly more common in chicken than in locally acquired human isolates (16 versus 3.0%, respectively; P < 0.001); no erythromycin resistance was found among water, raw milk, and human isolates acquired abroad. Resistance to tetracycline was significantly more common in chicken and human isolates acquired locally (58.9 and 45.8%, respectively) than in raw milk and water isolates (9.1 and 7.3%, respectively, P < 0.001). Tetracycline resistance was also observed in 44.4% of human isolates acquired abroad. No human isolate was resistant to both ciprofloxacin and erythromycin, but one chicken isolate was resistant to all three antimicrobial agents. Our results suggest that from 2000 to 2003 in Québec, antimicrobial resistance remained stable among locally acquired C. jejuni human clinical isolates and might even have decreased. However, the high erythromycin resistance rate observed among chicken isolates is concerning because of the risk of transmission of such isolates to humans. Additional studies are needed to monitor trends in antimicrobial resistance among food, environment, and human C. jejuni isolates as well as antibiotic use in animals.  相似文献

The different steps associated with the curing of a PVAc/polyester blend are identified and correlated to the mechanism of shrinkage control in the presence of a low‐profile additive (LPA). Poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) is used as a LPA and is shown to induce a phase separation upon curing that leads to an interconnected globule morphology. This morphology strongly modifies the rheokinetics of the blend compared to that of the neat polyester resin. In particular, the presence of PVAc delays the cure kinetics and the gel time. A comparison between these delays, called shift times, demonstrates an increase in the gel conversion of polyester in the presence of PVAc. This, coupled to the thermal expansion of PVAc at the early stages of curing, contributes to the low‐profile effect. Microvoids in the LPA‐rich phase, which are believed to play a key role in the mechanism of shrinkage control, are efficient at the later stages of curing and during cooling and complete the low‐profile effect. However, it is also shown that the formation of microvoids may indirectly induce macroscopic voids that could be at the origin of pinholes at the surface of the parts molded with this material. A novel thermoplastic programmable preforming process, TP-P4, has been used to manufacture preforms for non-isothermal compression molding. Commingled glass and polypropylene yarns are deposited by robot onto a vacuum screen, followed by a heat-setting operation to stabilize the as-placed yarns for subsequent handling. After an optional additional preconsolidation stage, the preforms are molded by preheating and subsequent press forming in a shear edge tool. The in- and out-of-plane flow capabilities of the material were investigated, and compared to those of 40 wt% Glass Mat Thermoplastics (GMTs). Although the TP-P4 material has a fiber fraction of 60 wt%, the material could be processed to fill 77 mm deep ribs with a thickness of 3 mm, indicative of complex part production. The pressure requirements for out-of-plane flow were shown to depend on the fiber length and fiber alignment. Segregation phenomena were found to be less severe with TP-P4 than with GMT material.  相似文献

AIMS: To characterize the population of drug users consulting the Emergency Room (ER) of a university hospital with acute opiate overdose (AOO) and to assess rate of referral to specialized treatment programme. DESIGN: Survey of a 12-month sample of AOO patients. MEASUREMENTS: Medical and psychosocial features of the drug users, details of emergency treatment and referral by a mobile resuscitation team (SMUR) and the ER of our hospital (CHUV-Lausanne, Switzerland). In addition fatal AOO cases were collected by the Institute of Forensic Medicine (IFM) during the same period. FINDINGS: One hundred and eighty-four cases of AOO (134 patients) were treated. The files of the IFM detailed six additional deceased cases. This population of drug users was characterized by an over-representation of men (73%), by young age (27.4 years), by a high rate of multi-drugs use (90%) and by a high rate of multiple previous overdoses (2.6). Average length of stay was 20.1 hours but 41% of cases stayed less than 8 hours. Only one patient was readmitted within an 8-hour period. When discharged, 78% returned home. Unexpectedly, 67% of patients were not referred to any therapeutic programme for drug addiction. CONCLUSION: This study shows the low mortality of AOO when treated but also demonstrates the need to improve psychosocial evaluation and referral of drug addicts admitted with AOO.  相似文献

Cascade impactors provide an efficient method for sampling aerosols according to their size, grossly between 0.1 mu m and a few tens of microns in diameter. We have designed such an apparatus, with rotatable substrate plates and radially aligned rectangular orifices. The nominal cutpoint diameters are, respec tively, for stages 1-7 of the collector: 10, 5, 2, 1, 0.5, 0.25, and 0.1 mu m aed for an airflow of 10/L min. The sampler has an auxiliary set of orifice plates for operation at 20/L min giving the same cutpoint characteristics. Annular deposits are obtained following complete rotation of the collecting substrates. The airflow is controlled with a critical orifice at the last stage. A calculation program was written for a rectangular orifice impactor in order to determine the cutpoints in different conditions. The constant exit pressure mode of operation appears to be the best way to minimize fluctuations of the effective cutpoints against the varying conditions of ambient temperature and pressure. The SPAL sampler has proven satisfactory with respect to manipulations required, maintenance, and results delivered.  相似文献

Metal matrix composites composed of high-purity aluminum and Du Pont PRD-166 continuous zirconia-stabilized polycrystalline alumina fibers are fabricated by liquid metal infiltration using three different casting procedures. The microstructure of the composites is analyzed using optical and electron microscopy, including analytical electron microscopy. It is found that discrete faceted particles of ZrAl3 form at the interface and grow into the matrix of samples processed above the melting point of the matrix for 13 minutes or more. The formation of this compound is in agreement with thermodynamic stability calculations. It is also found that there is a reaction between solid aluminum and the fibers at 913 K, yielding a reaction product which has the same morphology as that observed with molten aluminum. When the fibers are infiltrated with an initial preform temperature below the metal melting point and a solidifination time below 1 minute, no reaction products were visible in the composite using the scanning electron microscope (SEM). This leads to the conclusion that aluminum matrix composites can be cast with no apparent interfacial reaction product using these fibers provided that adequate processing parameters are chosen.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of feeding alfalfa baleage with different concentrations of nonstructural carbohydrates (NSC) supplemented with a common corn-based concentrate on performance, ruminal fermentation profile, N utilization, and omasal flow of nutrients in dairy cows during early lactation. Ten multiparous (8 ruminally cannulated) and 8 primiparous Holstein cows were randomly assigned to treatments (high- or low-NSC diet) in a crossover design. The difference in NSC concentration between the 2 alfalfa baleages fed from d 14 to 21 averaged 14 g of NSC/kg of dry matter (DM). Forages and concentrate were offered in separate meals with forages fed once and concentrate offered 3 times daily. Except for the molar proportion of valerate, which was lowest in cows fed the high-NSC diet, no other changes in ruminal fermentation were observed. Omasal flows of most nitrogenous fractions, including bacterial nonammonia N and AA, were not affected by treatments. Apparent ruminal digestibilities of neutral and acid detergent fiber and N were lowest, whereas that of total ethanol-soluble carbohydrates was highest when feeding the high-NSC diet. Postruminal digestibilities of DM, organic matter, fiber, and N were highest in cows fed the high-NSC diet, resulting in no difference in total-tract digestibilities. Total-tract digestibility of total ethanol-soluble carbohydrates was highest in cows fed the high-NSC diet, but that of starch did not differ across treatments. Although milk yield and total DM intake did not differ between treatments, yields of milk fat and 4% fat-corrected milk decreased significantly in cows fed the high-NSC diet. Milk concentration of urea N was lowest, and that of ruminal NH3-N highest, in cows fed the high-NSC diet. Plasma urea N concentration tended to be decreased in cows fed the high-NSC diet, but concentrations of AA were not affected by treatments, with the exception of Asp and Cys, both of which were lowest in cows fed the low-NSC diet. Feeding diets with contrasting NSC concentrations did not improve milk production, N utilization, or bacterial protein synthesis, possibly because intakes of NSC and DM were similar between treatments. Overall, results from the current study should be interpreted cautiously because of the lack of difference in dietary NSC intake between treatments and reduced N and fiber intakes when feeding the high-NSC diet.  相似文献

Fatty acids with conjugated double bonds have attracted great interest because of their reported potent bioactivities. However, there are currently no rapid methods for their structural characterization. We report here a convenient mass spectrometry-based strategy to establish double bond geometry by analysis of collisional dissociation products of cis/trans and trans/cis conjugated linoleic acids (CLAs), as methyl esters, and to distinguish CLAs from homoallylic (methylene-interrupted) fatty acids in a single-stage mass spectrum. A series of CLA standards with double bond positions 6,8; 7,9; 8,10; 9,11; 10,12; 11,13; 12,14; and 13,15, with all four possible geometries (cis/trans; trans/cis; cis/cis; trans/trans) were analyzed. The m/z 54 (1-methyleneimino)-1-ethenylium ion, generated by self-reaction of acetonitrile under chemical ionization conditions, reacts with unsaturated fatty acids to yield an [M + 54]+ ion, which decomposes in the single-stage mass spectrum by loss of neutral methanol to form [M + 54 - 32]+. The ratio of [M + 54]+/[M + 54 - 32]+ in the single-stage mass spectra of CLA isomers is 1 order of magnitude less than for homoallylic diene FAME. Collisional dissociation of the [M + 54]+ ion yields two diagnostic ions that contain the alpha- and omega-carbon atoms and is characteristic of double bond position in the analyte. The fragment vinylic to the trans double bond is significantly more abundant than that for the cis double bond, revealing double bond geometry. The ratio of alpha to we diagnostic ion abundances is >4.8 for cis/trans isomers, <0.5 for trans/cis isomers, and 0.7-3.2 for cis/cis and trans/trans isomers. This method provides a rapid alternative to conventional conjugated fatty acid analysis and, together with complementary elution time information provided by gas chromatography, enables rapid, positive identification of double bond position and geometry in most CLA FAME.  相似文献
