Growth of carbon nanotubes (CNT) or carbon nano-fibres (CNF) on fibrous substrates is a way to increase the fracture toughness of fibre reinforced composites (FRC), with encouraging results reported in the recent years. The issues for these materials related to manufacturing of these composites are, however, less investigated. Following the study of compressibility of woven carbon fibre preforms with CNT/CNFs grown on the fibres using the CVD method [Compos Sci Technol 2011; 71(3): 315-325], this paper describes compression tests on the carbon tows used in these fabrics. The results of the measurements include pressure vs. thickness diagrams in consecutive compression cycles and hysteresis of the compression. The results confirm a drastic change of compressibility of fibrous assemblies in the presence of CNT/CNF grafting.  相似文献

An optimal loading principle of burnable poisons (BPs) is proposed to eliminate the problem of an excessively high power peaking factor in once-through-then-out (OTTO) pebble bed HTGR cores. The effectiveness of the principle is confirmed through neutronic and thermal hydraulic calculations for an HTGR core with thermal power of 600 MWt. Spherical BP particles are distributed uniformly together with TRISO-coated fuel particle inside the free fuel zones of fuel pebbles to maintain constant k during burnup. The applicability of BP materials, such as B4C, Gd2O3, Sm2O3, Eu2O3, Er2O3, CdO, and HfO2, is investigated. Because complete BP depletion at the target burnup is required to avoid reactivity loss and extra enrichment, the four BP materials considered as applicable candidates are B4C, Gd2O3, Er2O3, and CdO. The complete BP depletion is demonstrated by a burning fraction at the target burnup. The power density is excessively high at the core top and the power peaking factor is 4.44 when no BP is added to the fuel pebbles. Optimal BP loading reduces the power peaking factor from 4.44 to about 1.7. Because of the power peaking factor reduction, the maximum fuel temperatures are lower than the maximum permissible values of 1250 °C for normal operation and 1600 °C during a depressurization accident.  相似文献

The authors argued that emotions characterized by certainty appraisals promote heuristic processing whereas emotions characterized by uncertainty appraisals result in systematic processing. The 1st experiment demonstrated that the certainty associated with an emotion affects the certainty experienced in subsequent situations. The next 3 experiments investigated effects on processing of emotions associated with certainty and uncertainty. Compared with emotions associated with uncertainty, emotions associated with certainty resulted in greater reliance on the expertise of a source of a persuasive message in Experiment 2, more stereotyping in Experiment 3, and less attention to argument quality in Experiment 4. In contrast to previous theories linking valence and processing, these findings suggest that the certainty appraisal content of emotions is also important in determining whether people engage in systematic or heuristic processing. As our understanding of the molecular pathways driving tumorigenesis improves and more druggable targets are identified, we have witnessed a concomitant increase in the development and production of novel molecularly targeted agents. Radiotherapy is commonly used in the treatment of various malignancies with a prominent role in the care of prostate cancer patients, and efforts to improve the therapeutic ratio of radiation by technologic and pharmacologic means have led to important advances in cancer care. One promising approach is to combine molecularly targeted systemic agents with radiotherapy to improve tumor response rates and likelihood of durable control. This review first explores the limitations of preclinical studies as well as barriers to successful implementation of clinical trials with radiosensitizers. Special considerations related to and recommendations for the design of preclinical studies and clinical trials involving molecularly targeted agents combined with radiotherapy are provided. We then apply these concepts by reviewing a representative set of targeted therapies that show promise as radiosensitizers in the treatment of prostate cancer.  相似文献

Spherical nanoparticulate drug carriers made of poly(d,l-lactic acid) with controlled size were designed. A local anesthetic, lidocaine, a small hydrophobic molecule, was incorporated in the core with loadings varying from about 7 to 32% (w/w) and increasing with the particle size. Particles with sizes from about 250 to 820 nm and low polydispersity were prepared with good reproducibility; the polymer concentration (at constant surfactant concentration) governed the particle size. The large particles with a high loading ( approximately 30%) showed under in vitro conditions a slow release over 24-30 h, the medium sized carriers (loading of approximately 13%) released the drug over about 15 h, whereas the small particles with small loading ( approximately 7%) exhibited a rapid release over a couple of hours. It seems that the drug release rate is related to the state (crystallized or dispersed) of the drug incorporated in the polymer matrix.  相似文献

Growth of carbon nanotubes (CNT) or carbon nano-fibres (CNF) on carbon fibrous substrates is a way to increase the fracture toughness of fibre reinforced composites (FRC), with encouraging results reported in the recent years. If these nano-engineered FRC (nFRC) are destined to leave laboratories and enter industrial-scale production, a question of adapting the existing composite manufacturing methods will arise. The paper studies compressibility of woven carbon fibre performs (two types of fabrics) with CNT/CNF grown on the fibres using the CVD method. The results include pressure vs thickness and pressure vs fibre volume fraction diagrams for one and four layers of the fabric. Morphology of the nFRC is studied with SEM. It is shown that the pressure needed to achieve the target fibre volume fraction of the preform increases drastically (for example, from 0.05 MPa to more than 0.5 MPa for a fibre volume fraction of 52%) when CNT/CNF are grown on it. No change in nesting of the fabric plies is noticed. The poor compressibility can lower the achievable fibre volume fraction in composite for economical vacuum assisted light-RTM techniques and increase the pressure requirements in autoclave processing.  相似文献

A model for calculation of the compression resistance of a random assembly of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) is proposed. The model is based on the theory of geometry and compression of fibrous materials with randomly oriented fibres. It accounts for the orientation distribution and volume fraction of CNTs in the assembly, the bending rigidity of a CNT and its decrease after onset of buckling and for friction and slippage between CNTs. The model also allows for calculation the number of contacts between CNTs in the assembly and of the percolation threshold. The predicted compression resistance is compared with experimental data on compression of “buckydisks” made of CNTs.  相似文献

In the present work, we report first results about a technology using a conjugated copolymer poly(5-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone-co-5-hydroxy-2-carboxyethyl-1,4-naphthoquinone) acting both as immobilizing and transducing element for reagentless immunosensor, and its application for the detection of HPV infection. It was shown that the reagentless immunosensor was able to detect the interaction between antigenic peptide L1 from HPV-16 major capsid protein, a dominant epitope involved in viral infection as well as in prophylactic vaccine, and the relevant antibody.  相似文献
