To improve the robustness and reliability of wireless transmissions, two complementary link adaptation techniques are employed: adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) at the physical layer and hybrid automatic retransmission request (HARQ) at the medium access control layer. Because of their effectiveness in combating errors induced by the wireless channel, AMC and HARQ are now integral components of most emerging broadband wireless system standards, for example, LTE and WiMAX. Spectral efficiency (SE) as measured in bit per second per Hertz is one important parameter used to characterize a wireless system for comparison between different systems or between different configurations of the same system. This work provides a holistic approach of cross‐layer optimizations with the intent of maximizing SE by combining AMC and HARQ. It formulates closed‐form equations for calculating the average SE for wireless systems with the Rayleigh fading channel model. A new online algorithm is developed to optimize SE for both Rayleigh and non‐Rayleigh fading channel. Simulations using proven LTE model are performed to compare SE obtained from closed‐form equations and the developed algorithm for different system configurations. With the developed algorithm to determine how many retransmissions required in addition to the initial transmission in advance depending on the current wireless channel condition, the latency can be reduced up to 24 ms when sending the initial transmission and all of its retransmissions sooner than waiting for retransmission requests as is done previously. This paper presents a pre/postfiltering framework to reduce the reconstruction errors near block boundaries in wavelet-based image and video compression. Two algorithms are developed to obtain the optimal filter, based on boundary filter bank and polyphase structure, respectively. A low-complexity structure is employed to approximate the optimal solution. Performances of the proposed method in the removal of JPEG 2000 tiling artifact and the jittering artifact of three-dimensional wavelet video coding are reported. Comparisons with other methods demonstrate the advantages of our pre/postfiltering framework.  相似文献

A family of millimeter-wave sources based on InP heterojunction bipolar transistor (HBT) monolithic microwave/millimeter-wave integrated circuit (MMIC) technology has been developed. These sources include 40-GHz, 46-GHz, 62-GHz MMIC fundamental mode oscillators, and a 95-GHz frequency source module using a 23.8-GHz InP HBT MMIC dielectric resonator oscillator (DRO) in conjunction with a GaAs-based high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) MMIC frequency quadrupler and W-band output amplifiers. Good phase noise performance was achieved due to the low 1/f noise of the InP-based HBT devices. Scattering loss and viscosity against temperature measurements have been carried out on fluoride glasses. The results indicate for the first time a ?-4 behaviour for scattering loss in the 0.45?0.75 ?m wavelength range. Activation energies for viscous flow were found to be similar for both ZrF4? and HfF4?based glasses.  相似文献

A conjugate-gradient fast Fourier transform (CG-FFT) formulation for the scattering by a thin, perfectly conducting plate is presented. Pulse basis functions and a Dirac δ function are used for expansion and testing purposes, respectively. Particular attention is paid to the generation of the terms in the impedance matrix of the resulting matrix equation. Except for the self-coupling terms, all the other terms are computed by explicit integrations. Comparison with two previously reported pulse-basis CG-FFT formulations shows that the present method is more stable when the error tolerance of the solution is reduced. When sufficient cell discretizations are used, smooth distributions can be obtained which resemble those obtained via rooftop-CG-FFT formulation. The numerical results are further validated by comparing the far-field radar cross section with an analytical technique for a circular plate  相似文献

In this paper, we analyze the performance of cognitive amplify‐and‐forward (AF) relay networks with beamforming under the peak interference power constraint of the primary user (PU). We focus on the scenario that beamforming is applied at the multi‐antenna secondary transmitter and receiver. Also, the secondary relay network operates in channel state information‐assisted AF mode, and the signals undergo independent Nakagami‐m fading. In particular, closed‐form expressions for the outage probability and symbol error rate (SER) of the considered network over Nakagami‐m fading are presented. More importantly, asymptotic closed‐form expressions for the outage probability and SER are derived. These tractable closed‐form expressions for the network performance readily enable us to evaluate and examine the impact of network parameters on the system performance. Specifically, the impact of the number of antennas, the fading severity parameters, the channel mean powers, and the peak interference power is addressed. The asymptotic analysis manifests that the peak interference power constraint imposed on the secondary relay network has no effect on the diversity gain. However, the coding gain is affected by the fading parameters of the links from the primary receiver to the secondary relay network. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Hybrid interfaces between ferromagnetic surfaces and carbon-based molecules play an important role in organic spintronics. The fabrication of devices with well defined interfaces remains challenging, however, hampering microscopic understanding of their operation mechanisms. We have studied the crystallinity and molecular ordering of C60 films on epitaxial Fe/MgO(0 0 1) surfaces, using X-ray diffraction and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). Both techniques confirm that fcc molecular C60 films with a (1 1 1)-texture can be fabricated on epitaxial bcc-Fe(0 0 1) surfaces at elevated growth temperatures (100–130 °C). STM measurements show that C60 monolayers deposited at 130 °C are highly ordered, exhibiting quasi-hexagonal arrangements on the Fe(0 0 1) surface oriented along the [1 0 0] and [0 1 0] directions. The mismatch between the surface lattice of the monolayer and the bulk fcc C60 lattice prevents epitaxial overgrowth of multilayers.  相似文献
