We present a novel, inexpensive, and fast microimpedance tomography system for two-dimensional imaging of cell and tissue cultures. The system is based on four-electrode measurements using 16 planar microelectrodes (5 microm x 4 mm) integrated into a culture chamber. An Agilent 4294A impedance analyzer combined with a front-end amplifier is used for the impedance measurements. Two-dimensional images are obtained using a reconstruction algorithm. This system is capable of accurately resolving the shape and position of a human hair, yielding vertical cross sections of the object. Human epithelial stem cells (YF 29) are also grown directly on the device surface. Tissue growth can be followed over several days. A rapid resistivity decrease caused by permeabilized cell membranes is also monitored, suggesting that this technique can be used in electroporation studies. 相似文献

Catechin content of green tea drinks commercially available is reported to be very low in comparison with tea traditionally prepared, due to catechins conversion to their corresponding epimers during production. The purpose of this present study was to produce catechin-enriched tea drinks according to a two-step brewing procedure and to verify the catechin stability of those enriched drinks during storage. Those results confirmed that it is possible to produce EGC- and EGCG-enriched tea drinks regardless of the green tea used. Good extraction efficiencies were reached for the first and second extraction steps with catechin extraction yields ranging from 63.6% to 84.8%. Furthermore, it appeared that the catechin content in the two enriched tea drinks demonstrated a great stability since no significant degradation occurred within 8 weeks of storage. This simple two-step extraction procedure could be considered as an interesting way to produce enriched green tea drinks with more potent and stable bioactive catechins. 相似文献

This contribution couples (a) Small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) experiments of a high-performance concrete (HPC) at the millimetric scale, and (b) Focused ion beam/scanning electron microscopy (FIB/SEM) of the cement paste of the HPC, with 10-20 nm voxel size. The aim is to improve the understanding of the 3D pore network of the HPC at the mesoscale (tens of nm), which is relevant for fluid transport. The mature HPC is an industrial concrete, based on pure Portland CEMI cement, and planned for use as structural elements for deep underground nuclear waste storage. Small angle X-ray scattering patterns are computed from the 3D pore images given by FIB/SEM (volumes of 61-118 μm3). They are positively correlated with SAXS measurements (volumes of 5 mm3). Aside from correlations with FIB/SEM data, experimental SAXS allows to investigate a wider range of effects on the pore structure. These are mainly the HPC drying state, the presence of aggregates (by analyzing data on cement paste alone), and the use of Poly Methyl MethAcrylate resin impregnation. 相似文献

The effectiveness and efficiency of two food grade multifunctional epoxies with low and high epoxy equivalent weights in chain extending/branching poly(lactic acid) (PLA) were studied in a torque rheometer. Processing PLA and chain extender (CE) at 200°C for 300 s not only chain‐extended PLA effectively as indicated by a significant increase in the mixing torque as well as PLA's melt viscosity and molecular weight, but also branched it leading to its reduced crystallinity. Chain extension occurred through the ring opening reaction of epoxy groups in the CE with PLA's hydroxyl and/or carboxyl groups. CE with lower epoxy equivalent weight was more efficient due to its higher reactivity. Secondly, the processabilities of PLA films chain‐extended and branched with various amounts of the most efficient CE were assessed. Like in torque rheometer, chain extension and branching also occurred during film production as indicated by PLA's increased molecular weight and decreased crystallinity when blended with CE. However, film manufacture was feasible only for blends with up to 0.5% CE, becoming unprocessable above this content due to chain entanglement leading to increased viscosity. Chain extension/branching of PLA was beneficial in overcoming film's brittleness since its impact strength increased almost linearly with the CE content. POLYM. ENG. In this study, we assessed the influence of cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) addition level (0.5–2 wt %) on the surface texture, thickness, and barrier properties of poly(lactic acid) (PLA) extruded-cast films. Regardless of the CNC content, the addition of CNC increased the surface average roughness and maximum roughness of the PLA films in both the machine and cross-machine directions because of the presence of CNC agglomerates. The increased roughness resulted in films with uneven thicknesses; this affected their accurate measurements with a conventional micrometer. Rather, accurate thickness measurements were obtained through the density method, a more appropriate thickness measurement method for films with rough surfaces. The permeability values were negatively correlated with the increased crystallinity. Both the water vapor permeability and oxygen permeability (OP) values decreased significantly by approximately 26–45 and 25–50%, respectively, as the CNC content increased from 0.5 to 2 wt % because of the tortuosity effect. The OP values of the neat PLA and composite films remained insensitive to changes in the relative humidity (from 0 to 75%) when they were tested at 23 °C. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Hydroborate-based solid electrolytes have recently been successfully employed in high voltage, room temperature all-solid-state sodium batteries. The transfer to analogous lithium systems has failed up to now due to the lower conductivity of the corresponding lithium compounds and their high cost. Here LiB11H14 nido-hydroborate as a cost-effective building block and its high-purity synthesis is introduced. The crystal structures of anhydrous LiB11H14 as well as of LiB11H14-based mixed-anion solid electrolytes are solved and high ionic conductivities of 1.1 × 10−4 S cm−1 for Li2(B11H14)(CB11H12) and 1.1 × 10−3 S cm−1 for Li3(B11H14)(CB9H10)2 are obtained, respectively. LiB11H14 exhibits an oxidative stability limit of 2.6 V versus Li+/Li and the proposed decomposition products are discussed based on density functional theory calculations. Strategies are discussed to improve the stability of these compounds by modifying the chemical structure of the nido-hydroborate cage. Galvanostatic cycling in symmetric cells with two lithium metal electrodes shows a small overpotential increase from 22.5 to 30 mV after 620 h (up to 0.5 mAh cm−2), demonstrating that the electrolyte is compatible with metallic anodes. Finally, the Li2(B11H14)(CB11H12) electrolyte is employed in a proof-of-concept half cell with a TiS2 cathode with a capacity retention of 82% after 150 cycles at C/5. 相似文献
