Background: Tibia fracture (BF) before stroke shortly causes long-term post-stroke memory dysfunction in mice. The mechanism is unclear. We hypothesize that BF enhances neuroinflammation and blood brain barrier (BBB) breakdown in the hippocampus and white matter (WM) damage. Methods: Mice were assigned to groups: BF, stroke, BF+stroke (BF 6 h before stroke) and sham. BBB integrity was analyzed 3 days after the surgeries and WM injury was analyzed 3 days and 8 weeks after the surgeries. Results: Stroke and BF+stroke groups had more activated microglia/macrophages and lower levels of claudin-5 in the ipsilateral hippocampi than the BF group. BF+stroke group had the highest number microglia/macrophages and the lowest level of claudin-5 among all groups and had fewer pericytes than BF group. Stroke and BF+stroke groups had smaller WM areas in the ipsilateral basal ganglia than the sham group 8 weeks after the injuries. The BF+stroke group also had smaller WM areas in the ipsilateral than sham and BF groups 3 days after the injuries and in the contralateral basal ganglia than stroke and BF groups 8 weeks after the injuries. Conclusions: BF exacerbates neuroinflammation and BBB leakage in the hippocampus and WM damage in basal ganglia, which could contribute to the long-lasting memory dysfunction in BF+stroke mice.  相似文献

Atomic decomposition is an alternative method for frequency detection in harmonic signals. This type of method produces very concentrated solutions with few nonzero components. It can be used as an alternative to traditional approaches, such as, principal-components frequency estimation methods. In this paper, we consider the basis pursuit principle to find the representation (frequency) coefficients of a harmonic signal by minimizing the l 1 norm. For the l 1 minimization, we compare two interior-point methods. A primal-dual method, which consists of the perturbed optimality conditions of the linear program, results in solutions that are more accurate and sparse than using a primal (affine scaling) method to solve the same linear program. We contrast the solutions obtained by the interior-point methods using the size of the given data and a bound for perfect recovery of the harmonic signals to establish the better performance of the primal-dual method. In addition, experimental results are shown.  相似文献

Poly[N‐(2‐hydroxyethyl)‐β‐propylamide] oligomer is synthesized using a simple enzymatic procedure involving Candida antarctica lipase B. This novel compound is obtained by a green and chemoselective method from economic reactants in good yield. The β‐peptoid oligomer is characterized by spectroscopic methods showing low molecular weight and low dispersity. Two derivatives of the β‐peptoid oligomer are prepared by acetylation and by grafting polycaprolactone by ring opening polymerization from the pendant hydroxyl groups. These products are blended with polycaprolactone to make films by solvent casting. The inclusion of the acyl derivatives of the β‐peptoid to polycaprolactone affects the morphology of the film yielding microstructured and nanostructured patterns. © 2013 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

A series of anti-inflammatory derivatives containing an N-acyl hydrazone subunit (4a–e) were synthesized and characterized. Docking studies were performed that suggest that compounds 4a–e bind to cyclooxygenase (COX)-1 and COX-2 isoforms, but with higher affinity for COX-2. The compounds display similar anti-inflammatory activities in vivo, although compound 4c is the most effective compound for inhibiting rat paw edema, with a reduction in the extent of inflammation of 35.9% and 52.8% at 2 and 4 h, respectively. The anti-inflammatory activity of N-acyl hydrazone derivatives was inferior to their respective parent drugs, except for compound 4c after 5 h. Ulcerogenic studies revealed that compounds 4a–e are less gastrotoxic than the respective parent drug. Compounds 4b–e demonstrated mucosal damage comparable to celecoxib. The in vivo analgesic activities of the compounds are higher than the respective parent drug for compounds 4a–b and 4d–e. Compound 4a was more active than dipyrone in reducing acetic-acid-induced abdominal constrictions. Our results indicate that compounds 4a–e are anti-inflammatory and analgesic compounds with reduced gastrotoxicity compared to their respective parent non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.  相似文献

This paper proposes a methodology for robust optimization of the failure probability of buildings subjected to stochastic earthquakes, using a less common type of passive energy dissipation device: the friction dampers. There is a lack of studies on optimal positions and parameters of passive friction dampers, and additionally, the few studies found in the literature consider the problem in a deterministic way. The robust optimization proposed in this paper is carried out through the recently developed backtracking search optimization algorithm, which is able to deal with optimization problems involving mixed discrete (positions) and continuous (friction forces) design variables. In order to take into account uncertainties present in both the system and the dynamic excitation (earthquakes), some parameters are modeled as random variables, and consequently, the structural response becomes stochastic. For illustration purposes, a 10‐story building is analyzed. The results showed that the proposed method was able to reduce the failure probability in approximately 99% with only three friction dampers, installed in their best positions and with their optimized friction forces. The proposed methodology is quite general, and it is believed that it can be recommended as an effective tool for optimum design of friction dampers. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In 1998, one of the largest determinations of organochlorine pesticides in a representative sample of a Spanish population (682 serum samples from the Canary Islands) was made in the context of the "Canary Islands Nutrition Survey" (ENCA). In the Canary Islands, extensive farming areas have been developed in these last decades, with greenhouses dedicated to intensive cultivation using DDT in huge amounts. In Spain, similarly to other European countries, DDT was banned in the late 1970s. The pesticide residues in human serum are indicative of past and present exposure to them. Our objective is to point out the differences of pesticide contamination between islands; and together with this, if a connection could be established with gender, age, or habitat of subjects. Concentration of selected persistent organochlorine pollutants (p,p'-DDT, o,p'-DDT, p,p'-DDE, o,p'-DDE, p,p'-DDD, and o,p'-DDD) was measured with gas chromatography-electron capture detector. Almost all of the samples (99.3%) presented detectable levels of some DDT-derivatives, being p,p'-DDE the most frequently detected organochlorine. The median concentration of total DDT body burden, expressed in ng/g fat, present in the Canary Islands (370 ng/g fat) was similar to that found in other European countries, although it was noteworthy that a fourth of the population showed a total DDT body burden higher than 715 ng/g. Interestingly, statistical significant differences were found in serum levels of organochlorine pesticides between islands, being these levels higher in people from Tenerife and Gran Canaria (415 and 612 ng/g fat, respectively), the islands that present both highest population and highest surface devoted to intensive agriculture. As expected, serum levels of both total DDT body burden and p,p'-DDE increased with age. Statistically significant differences were also found in relation to gender, women showing higher levels of these organochlorine pesticides than men. One of the most relevant findings of this work is the presence of a very high DDT/DDE ratio in people from the Canary Islands, thus indicating a chronic exposure to DDT that persists nowadays. DDT and its derivatives are considered as xenoestrogens, and they have been linked to breast cancer. Having into account that the Canary Islands present high incidence and mortality for breast cancer, our results point to the possibility that these environmental contaminants may be playing a determining role that must be investigated in detail. The high levels of DDT and its derivatives in serum from people living in this Archipelago should be considered a matter of public health concern.  相似文献

The optical and resistivity properties of Pd/Co films are investigated and related to the interaction of palladium and the underlying cobalt (Co) clusters layer when exposed to hydrogen. Co is used because it is known to absorb hydrogen only on its surface. Co clusters with mean size of 1.8 nm in the gas phase were deposited on sapphire substrates at room temperature (RT), 300 °C, and 500 °C, respectively, and capped by a continuous Pd film. Light transmission and reflection in the visible range were measured during hydrogen exposure at different pressures in consecutive cycles. An unusual change in the transmittance and the resistance during the first hydrogenation cycle of a sample suggests that a reduction of the surface oxide on the Co clusters layer occurs at room temperature. The reduction of the native oxide on Co thin films or bulk does not happen without the Pd capping when exposed to hydrogen under similar conditions.  相似文献
