In this paper we propose a new characterization of model-based diagnosis based on process algebras, a framework which is widely used in several areas of computer science. We show that process algebras provide a powerful modelling language which allows us to capture, in an uniform way, different types of models of physical systems, including models of time-varying and dynamic behavior. Then we provide a characterization of diagnosis which is equivalent to the “classical” abductive one. This suggests new interesting opportunities for research on relations between model-based reasoning and process algebras.  相似文献

Polyclonal antibodies have been raised against a highly purified egg yolk protein, which appears to be unaffected by thermal treatments and whose content is constant in eggs of different origin. The antibodies are able to bind specifically to the egg yolk protein and can be used for the quantification of the egg content in egg pasta. An explicit finite element solution procedure for the three dimensional Euler equations is presented. The solution domain is automatically meshed using a tetrahedral mesh generator which is an extension of our previous two dimensional work. Several examples are included to illustrate the performance of the generator and solver. An adaptive mesh regeneration procedure is used for the first time in three dimensions.  相似文献

We discuss the lack of “uniformity” in definitions of uniform global asymptotic stability (UGAS) that have been used in various textbooks, monographs, and papers over the years. Sometimes UGAS is taken to be the combination of uniform local stability (ULS) and uniform global attractivity (UGA). Other times it also encompasses uniform global boundedness (UGB). This paper contains an explicit, smooth scalar example that shows that these definitions do not agree in general, even when the right-hand side is locally Lipschitz in the state uniformly in time (and thus bounded in time). We also discuss various notions of global asymptotic stability with relaxed uniformity (with respect to the initial time) requirements for the behavior of the solutions. In particular, we consider class- estimates and Lyapunov characterizations.  相似文献

Chagas disease vector insects Triatoma infestans and Rhodnius prolixus (fifteen stage III nymphs per 4 litre cage) were allowed to feed on anaesthetized mice for 1 h (control group), or on active non-anaesthetized mice (NAM) for 2, 4 or 8 h exposure. The bloodmeal size (weight increase) for both species was proportional to the duration of contact with NAM, due to ingestion of multiple small bloodmeals, up to 142% of control weight for T. infestans with 8 h exposure to NAM. The mean weight increase of T. infestans nymphs after 4 h contact with NAM was similar to that of the control group, whereas for R. prolixus, 8 h contact with NAM gave only 64% of the control value. For both species of insect, within 4 h of feeding, > 20% of the bloodmeal weight was lost by defaecation and diuresis. The proportions of unfed nymphs and mortality during 2 h contact with NAM were significantly higher for R. prolixus, demonstrating better exploitation of the host blood source by T. infestans, apparently because during blood-feeding the latter insect species caused less irritation to the host.  相似文献

Two early and potential rate-limiting steps in the biosynthesis of isoquinoline alkaloids, such as morphine and codeine, in opium poppy (Papaver somniferum) involve decarboxylation of L-tyrosine and L-dihydroxyphenylalanine (L-dopa) to yield tyramine and dopamine, respectively. A DNA fragment was amplified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) using degenerate primers designed to two highly conserved domains found in other aromatic amino acid decarboxylases. A poppy seedling cDNA library was screened with this PCR product and a cDNA (cTYDC1) for tyrosine/dopa decarboxylase (TYDC/DODC) was isolated. Two other independent cDNAs (cTYDC2 and cTYDC3) encoding TYDC/DODC were isolated by heterologous screening with a plant tryptophan decarboxylase (TDC) cDNA as probe. A poppy genomic library was screened with cTYDC1 and two intronless genomic clones (gTYDC1 and gTYDC4) were isolated. The deduced amino acid sequences of all poppy clones share extensive identity with other reported pyridoxal phosphate-dependent decarboxylases from both plants and animals. Based on sequence homology, members of the gene family were divided into two subsets (cTYDC1 and gTYDC4; cTYDC2 and cTYDC3) of proteins with predicted M(r) = 56,983 and 59,323, respectively. Within each subset the clones exhibit greater than 90% identity, whereas clones between subsets share less than 75% identity. Expression of gTYDC1 and cTYDC2 as beta-galactosidase fusion proteins in Escherichia coli resulted in catalytically active enzymes immunodetectable with TDC-specific polyclonal antibodies. Each enzyme showed marginally higher substrate specificity for L-dopa over L-tyrosine, but did not accept L-tryptophan and L-phenylalanine as substrates. Genomic DNA blot-hybridization analysis revealed 6 to 8 genes homologous to cTYDC1 and 4 to 6 genes homologous to cTYDC2 in the tetraploid poppy genome. A premature translation stop codon was found in the gTYDC4 clone suggesting that it may not encode a functional protein. RNA blot-hybridization with probes specific to the gTYDC1- or cTYDC2-like subsets showed that members of the TYDC gene family are differentially expressed in various plant tissues.  相似文献

Despite its potential role as a tumor suppressor, p27 gene, a member of the Cip/Kip family of cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor genes, has never been found mutated in human tumors. We investigated p27 protein expression in a series of 108 non-small cell lung cancers (57.4% stage 1, 16.7% stage 2, and 25.9% stage 3) to determine whether the lack or altered expression of this protein correlates with neoplastic transformation and/or progression. We performed immunohistochemistry and Western blot analysis of each specimen. We found that tumors expressing low to undetectable levels of p27 contained high p27 degradation activity. When we evaluated the outcome of the patients in relationship to p27 expression, we found p27 to be a prognostic factor correlating with the overall survival times (P = 0.0012). The possibility of a simple assay, such as the immunohistochemical analysis of p27 expression on routinely formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded specimens, has considerable value for the prognosis of patients who undergo surgical resection. In addition, confirmation of the involvement of the proteasome-mediated proteolysis in p27 degradation should stimulate new strategies of nonsurgical treatments of non-small cell lung cancer.  相似文献
