Abstract Chinese idioms play an important role in Chinese vocabulary learning as well as having cultural and social functions. However, researchers found that Hong Kong students seldom use idioms. Not only are students writing characters incorrectly, they are using the idioms both incorrectly and inappropriately. A survey was conducted to examine the attitudes of Hong Kong students and teachers to learning Chinese idioms. According to the survey, primary teachers believed that computers can assist students in learning Chinese idioms more effectively than an idiom dictionary. Consequently, an experimental program for learning Chinese idioms was designed for students between 9 and 11 years old. As an evaluation, usability tests were carried out by interview and by survey. Both evaluations produced positive responses from the dependent and independent group of subjects which is an encouraging first step. 相似文献

An “evolutionary” approach called the genetic algorithm (GA) was introduced for multimodal optimization in adaptive IIR filtering. However, the disadvantages of using such an algorithm are slow convergence and high computational complexity. Initiated by the merits and shortcomings of the gradient-based algorithms and the evolutionary algorithms, we developed a new hybrid search methodology in which the genetic-type search is embedded into gradient-descent algorithms (such as the LMS algorithm). The new algorithm has the characteristics of faster convergence, global search capability, less sensitivity to the choice of parameters, and simple implementation. The basic idea of the new algorithm is that the filter coefficients are evolved in a random manner once the filter is found to be stuck at a local minimum or to have a slow convergence rate. Only the fittest coefficient set survives and is adapted according to the gradient-descent algorithm until the next evolution. As the random perturbation will be subject to the stability constraint, the filter can always minimum in a stable manner and achieve a smaller error performance with a fast rate. The article reviews adaptive IIR filtering and discusses common learning algorithms for adaptive filtering. An aperture coupled five-patch broadband microstrip antenna which makes use of stacked and coplanar techniques is studied. It is demonstrated that the antenna can attain a bandwidth of ~45%. The release of potassium chloride from polyethylene glycol-silicone elastomer coated tablets was achieved by the diffusion through water-filled pores formed in the hydrated coating and the osmotic pumping generated by the saturated salt solution. The relative contribution of these two mechanisms to the overall drug release rate was shown to be a function of the polyethylene glycol loading in the coating. As the polyethylene glycol loading level increased, the transpore diffusion became the predominant release mechanism. The capability of the polyethylene glycol-silicone elastomer coatings to provide controlled release for therapeutic agents of different water solubilities and dose levels was also demonstrated. Circularly polarized (CP) dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) subarrays have been numerically studied and experimentally verified. Elliptical CP DRA is used as the antenna element, which is excited by either a narrow slot or a probe. The elements are arranged in a 2 by 2 subarray configuration and are excited sequentially. In order to optimize the CP bandwidth, wideband feeding networks have been designed. Three different types of feeding network are studied; they are parallel feeding network, series feeding network and hybrid ring feeding network. For the CP DRA subarray with hybrid ring feeding network, the impedance matching bandwidth (S11<-10 dB) and 3-dB AR bandwidth achieved are 44% and 26% respectively 相似文献

Interaction of organism with non-toxic implanted polymers depends on the physicochemical properties of the implant surface, which influence the adsorption of bioactive proteins and subsequently adhesion and growth of cells. The synthetic hydrogels are known as poorly adhesive surfaces. In this study we demonstrated the adsorption of albumin, fibrinogen, fibronectin, basic fibroblast growth factor, heparin-binding epidermal growth factor-like growth factor and epidermal growth factor to poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (pHEMA) and copolymer of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) and potassium salt of 3-sulfopropyl methacrylate (SPMAK). The adhesion and growth of 3T3 cells and human keratinocytes on surface of these polymers was tested without and with pretreatment of polymers with heparin-binding epidermal growth factor-like growth factor. The adhesion of mixture of human granulocytes and monocytes to these surfaces was also tested. The strips of both polymers were subcutaneously and intracerebrally implanted into the rat and the extent of foreign body reaction and brain biocompatibility was evaluated. The results showed the extensive adsorption of basic fibroblast growth factor and heparin-binding epidermal growth factor-like growth factor to copolymer containing SPMAK. However the adhesion (and growth) of cells to this type of copolymers was very low. Preadsorption of human plasma to pHEMA clearly stimulated the leukocyte adhesion in contrary to copolymer containing SPMAK. The extent of foreign-body reaction was significantly higher against the pHEMA compared to tested copolymer p(HEMA-co-SPMAK). In conclusion, the tested copolymer was a poorly adhesive substrate that is only poorly recognized by the non-specific immunity, although the adsorption of basic growth factors to this substrate is highly significant. Both polymers were well tolerated by the brain tissue. The phenotype of surrounding neurons was more close to the control neurons in the brain tissue surrounding the p(HEMA-co-SPMAK) implants. © 2001 Kluwer Academic Publishers 相似文献
