In light‐emitting electrochemical cells (LECs), the position of the emission zone (EZ) is not predefined via a multilayer architecture design, but governed by a complex motion of electrical and ionic charges. As a result of the evolution of doped charge transport layers that enclose a dynamic intrinsic region until steady state is reached, the EZ is often dynamic during turn‐on. For thick sandwich polymer LECs, a continuous change of the emission color provides a direct visual indication of a moving EZ. Results from an optical and electrical analysis indicate that the intrinsic zone is narrow at early times, but starts to widen during operation, notably well before the electrical device optimum is reached. Results from numerical simulations demonstrate that the only precondition for this event to occur is that the mobilities of anions (μa) and cations (μc) are not equal, and the direction of the EZ shift dictates μc > μa. Quantitative ion profiles reveal that the displacement of ions stops when the intrinsic zone stabilizes, confirming the relation between ion movement and EZ shift. Finally, simulations indicate that the experimental current peak for constant‐voltage operation is intrinsic and the subsequent decay does not result from degradation, as commonly stated.  相似文献

Performance of different estimators describing propagation of electroencephalogram (EEG) activity, namely: Granger causality, directed transfer function (DTF), direct DTF (dDTF), short-time DTF (SDTF), bivariate coherence, and partial directed coherence are compared by means of simulations and on the examples of experimental signals. In particular, the differences between pair-wise and multichannel estimates are studied. The results show unequivocally that in most cases, the pair-wise estimates are incorrect and a complete set of signals involved in a given process has to be used to obtain the correct pattern of EEG flows. Different performance of multivariate estimators of propagation depending on their normalization is discussed. Advantages of multivariate autoregressive model are pointed out.  相似文献

The World Wide Web is an increasingly important data source for business decision making; however, extracting information from the Web remains one of the challenging issues related to Web business intelligence applications. To use heterogeneous Web data for decision making, documents containing relevant data must be located, and the data of interest within the documents must be identified and extracted. Currently, most automatic information extraction systems can only cope with a limited set of document formats or do not adapt well to changes in document structure, as a result, many real-world data sources with complex document structures cannot be consistently interpreted using a single information extraction system. This paper presents an adaptive information extraction system prototype that combines multiple information extraction approaches to allow more accurate and resilient data extraction for a wide variety of Web sources. The Amorphic Web information extraction system prototype can locate data of interest based on domain knowledge or page structure, can automatically generate a wrapper for a data source, and can detect when the structure of a Web-based resource has changed and act on this to search the updated resource to locate the desired data. The prototype Amorphic information extraction system demonstrated improved information extraction accuracy for the four different extraction scenarios examined when compared with traditional data extraction approaches  相似文献

Blood product transfusion is a financial concern for hospitals and patients. Efficient utilization of this dwindling resource is a critical problem if hospitals are to maximize patient care while minimizing costs. Traditional statistical models do not perform well in this domain. An additional concern is the speed with which transfusion decisions and planning can be made. Rapid assessment in the emergency room (ER) necessarily limits the amount of usable information available (with respect to independent variables available). This study evaluates the efficacy of using artificial neural networks (ANNs) to predict the transfusion requirements of trauma patients using readily available information. A total of 1016 patient records are used to train and test a backpropagation neural network for predicting the transfusion requirements of these patients during the first 2, 2-6, and 6-24 h, and for total transfusions. Sensitivity and specificity analysis are used along with the mean absolute difference between blood units predicted and units transfused to demonstrate that ANNs can accurately predict most ER patient transfusion requirements, while only using information available at the time of entry into the ER.  相似文献

In this paper a numerically efficient method for designing a nearly optimal variable fractional delay (VFD) filter based on a simple and well-known window method is presented. In the proposed method a single window extracted from the optimal filter with fixed fractional delay (FD) is divided into even and odd part. Subsequently, the odd part is discarded and symmetric even part of the extracted window is used to design a family of nearly optimal filters with varying FD. In addition to window extraction, the proposed approach requires filter gain correction which is dependent on the desired FD. Optimum values of the gain correction factor as well as the extracted window can be computed beforehand, which allows us to design a nearly optimal FD filter with arbitrary FD at low numerical costs during runtime. On the basis of the proposed filter design method, the universal structure of VFD filter allowing for change of filter type and length has been proposed. In the paper, three FD filter optimality criteria are considered, which are maximal flatness, Chebyshev (minimax), and least squares.  相似文献

In this paper, two novel energy-efficient rate adaptation schemes are presented. The proposed protocols use the Distributed Power Control (DPC) algorithm to predict the channel state and determine the necessary transmission power which optimizes the energy consumption. The first proposed rate adaptation scheme heuristically alters the modulation rate to balance the energy-efficiency and the required throughput which is estimated with queue fill ratio. Moreover, the back-off scheme is incorporated to mitigate congestion and reduce packet losses due to buffer overflows thus minimizing energy consumption. Consequently, the nodes will conserve energy when the traffic is low, offer higher throughput when needed and save energy during congestion by limiting transmission rates. The second rate adaptation scheme employs dynamic programming (DP) principle to analytically select modulation rate and a burst size to be used during transmission. The proposed quadratic cost-function minimizes the energy consumption while alleviating network congestions and buffer overflows. The proposed DP solution renders a Riccati equation ultimately providing an optimal rate selection. The simulation results indicate that an increase in throughput by 96% and energy-efficiency by 131% is observed when compared to other available protocols, for example Receiver Based AutoRate (RBAR).

Carbon nanotubes were used to modify a polyacrylonitrile (PAN) polymer solution before the manufacture of the carbon fiber precursor. The modified PAN fibers were spun from a dimethylformamide solution containing a small amount of single-walled carbon nanotubes. The fibers were characterized by thermogravimetry and optical and scanning electron microscopy. Structure, morphology, and selected properties of the composite polymeric fibers and the fibers after carbonization are characterized. The mechanical properties of the fibers are examined. It is found that nanotubes in the PAN solution have a strong tendency to form agglomerates that inhibit suitable macromolecular chain orientation of the carbon fiber precursor. Fibers manufactured from such a solution have similar mechanical properties to those from a pure PAN precursor, and after carbonization the resultant carbon fibers are very weak. A comparison of pure carbon fibers and those containing nanotubes reveals slight differences in their structural ordering.  相似文献

Flame retardants have attracted growing environmental concern. Recently, an increasing number of studies have been conducted worldwide to investigate flame-retardant sources, environmental distribution, living organisms’ exposure, and toxicity. The presented studies include the degradation of 4,4′-isopropylidenebis(2,6-dibromophenol) (TBBPA) by ozonolysis and photocatalysis. In the photocatalytic process, nano- and micro-magnetite (n-Fe3O4 and μ-Fe3O4) are used as a catalyst. Monitoring of TBBPA decay in the photocatalysis and ozonolysis showed photocatalysis to be more effective. Significant removal of TBBPA was achieved within 10 min in photocatalysis (ca. 90%), while for ozonation, a comparable effect was observed within 70 min. To determine the best method of TBBPA degradation concentration on COD and TOC, the removals were examined. The highest oxidation state was obtained for photocatalysis on μ-Fe3O4, whereas for n-Fe3O4 and ozonolysis, the COD/TOC ratio was lower. Acute toxicity results show noticeable differences in the toxicity of TBBPA and its degradation products to Artemia franciscana and Thamnocephalus platyurus. The EC50 values indicate that TBBPA degradation products were toxic to harmful, whereas the TBPPA and post-reaction mixtures were toxic to the invertebrate species tested. The best efficiency in the removal and degradation of TBBPA was in the photocatalysis process on μ-Fe3O4 (reaction system 1). The examined crustaceans can be used as a sensitive test for acute toxicity evaluation.  相似文献
