Group weighted finite transducers

We consider weighted finite transducers over arbitrary groups, that is finite transducers having a counter in which, at any step, a value of the group is stored but no information regarding the content of this counter is available until the computation is finished. The computation is valid if the counter value is the neutral element of the group. We generalize here some results from [8] and [17]. Received: 28 January 2001 / 5 June 2001     

Unexpected products of the allyldiethylamine hydroformylation homogeneously catalyzed by rhodium complexes

Attempts to carry out the hydroformylation of allyldiethylamine homogeneously catalyzed by rhodium complexes led to unexpected formation of N,N,N,N-tetraethyl-1,4-diaminobutane and 4-(diethylamino)-1-butanole as final products. The role of the catalyst on the product formation and the reaction mechanism are briefly discussed.     

Pigment and colour stability of frozen kiwi-fruit slices during prolonged storage

Changes in major pigment constituents of frozen kiwi-fruit slices during prolonged storage at –18° C and correlation with colour measurements (Hunter Lab parameters) were studied. Kiwi-fruit cultivars (Hayward, Bruno, Monty and Abbot) were processed without previous treatment and vacuum packed after freezing. HPLC using a diode array detector was used to individually quantify and identify the three major pigment components (xanthophylls, chlorophylls and derivatives and-carotene). The colour of fresh and frozen slices by Hunter Color values were correlated with each class of pigment compounds. An apparent first order degradation rate was found for total chlorophylls and xanthophylls. Hayward and Bruno were more suitable for prolonged freezing preservation in terms of colour deterioration.

Haltbarkeit von Pigment und Farbe gefrorener Kiwifrucht-Scheiben während langer Lagerung

Zusammenfassung Es wurden die Veränderungen der meisten Pigmentbestandteile gefrorener Kiwifrucht-Scheiben während langer Lagerzeit bei –18°C und die Korrelation mit Farbmessungen studiert. Kiwifrüchte der Sorten Hayward, Bruno, Monty und Abbot wurden ohne vorherige Behandlung unter Vakuum direkt nach dem Gefrierprozeß verpackt. Mit HPLC wurde quantitativ gemessen und die drei Pigmentbestandteile Xanthophyll, Chlorophyll und-Carotin identifiziert. Die Farbe der frischen, gefrorenen Scheiben (Hunter-Farb-Werte) korrelierte mit jedem der Pigmentbestandteile. Ein Verlust, scheinbar erster Ordnung, wurde für Chlorophyll und Xantophyll bei den Sorten Hayward und Bruno beobachtet, jedoch sind sie für das Gefrieren bei langer Lagerzeit trotz Farbverlust geeignet.

     

Gammagraphic diagnosis of a non-hyperactive suprarenal adenoma

It is described the case of a patient with Ovarian Cystadenoma in whom a 3.5 cm nodular lesion was accidentally detected in her left suprarenal gland. She had no signs of hypercortisolism or any other suprarenal pathology and was symptomless. Determinations in the urine of 24 hours of Cortisol, Adrenaline and Noradrenaline, 17-ketosteroids and Tetrahydroaldosterone were normal. Daily rhythm and plasmatic determinations of ACTH, cortisol and 11-deoxycortisol were normal. The Dexamethasone suppression test was also normal. In the suprarenal gammagraphy it appeared an intense captation by left suprarenal without visualization of right gland. A left suprarenalectomy was performed and the anatomopathological analysis showed a clear cell corticoadrenal adenoma. Therefore the only data of the function of suprarenal adenoma was the one coming from gammagraphy. We thought that the adenoma was responsible of practically all the corticoadrenal function without reaching pathological levels, meeting the criteria of "pre-Cushing" syndrome or subclinical Cushing, due to the fact that the contralateral gland was not seen in the gammagraphy. Therefore in the characterization of certain tumors which appear clinically and biochemically as non functional, the suprarenal gammagraphy could be a technique of great usefulness for the diagnosis.     

Changes in hemocoagulation in children with cranio-cerebral trauma

The authors monitored in children with craniocerebral injuries hospitalized in their department in the course of the more than one-year existence of the child ARO ward in addition to other vital parameters also changes of the haemocoagulation system. They describe the majority of commonly observed abnormalities as "latent consumption coagulopathy", where laboratory findings are not associated with clinical signs of coagulopathy. On the other end of the spectrum of coagulopathies after head injuries is the unit of disseminated consumption coagulopathy which is generally evaluated as a secondary phenomenon or as an intermediary mechanism of the disease which complicates various pathological conditions incl. craniocerebral injuries. The authors discuss the pathophysiology, diagnostic possibilities and their experience with the treatment of the mentioned disorders.     

Male response to natural sex pheromone ofMigdolus fryanus westwood (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) females as affected by daily climatic factors

Males of the sugarcane borer,Migdolus fryanus (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae), are attracted to females by means of a sex pheromone. Mating usually occurs during a few days from October to March under field conditions in São Paulo State, Brazil. This work reports on mating of this species as affected by daily climatic factors, during a single nuptial flight. Maximum male capture by the natural sex pheromone occurred from 1000 to 1100 AM at air and soil temperatures of 30.0°C and relative humidity of 57.0%. As these temperatures increased, females burrowed into the soil, as they are more sensitive to heat than males. Thus, it was concluded that sex pheromone-mediated mating in this cerambycid is directly affected by temperatures of air and soil.     

Conversion electron Mössbauer spectroscopy of the surface crystallization of the Fe75Co9B16 amorphous alloy

Using a new design of helium-methane gas-flow detector of conversion electrons for Mössbauer spectroscopy, non-uniform nucleation of the primary -Fe-Co phase on both contact and free surfaces of the Ar(+H₂) annealed amorphous Fe₇₅Co₉B₁₆ alloy was observed in its early crystallization stage. In this state the amount of crystalline phase on the contact ribbon side surpasses that on the free one by a factor of three, whereas no traces of volume crystallization were observed in the transmission spectra. By applying ion implantation to both ribbon surfaces, a slight reduction of the crystalline phase contribution was found. Magnetic domain structure observations were performed in order to evaluate the influence of surface crystallization on magnetic properties.     

Satisfiability of co-nested formulas

As a notion dual to Knuth's nested formulas [4], we call a boolean formula in conjunctive normal formco-nested if its clauses can be linearly ordered (sayC={c _i ;i=1,2, ...,n})so that the graphG ^cl =(XC, {xc _i ;xc _i or ¬xc _i } {c _i c _i+1;i=1, 2, ...,n}) allows a noncrossing drawing in the plane so that the circlec ₁,c ₂, ...,c _n bounds the outerface.
