Environmental and human exposures to brominated flame retardants (BFR) have been of emerging concern since some BFR are persistent and bioaccumulative compounds. Among those, polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) have frequently been reported in low to high ng/g concentrations in human blood around the world while hexabromocyclododecane (HBCDD) only occasionally has been reported and then in the low ppb concentrations in human blood. The present study concerns PBDE congener and HBCDD concentrations in human milk from Stockholm from 1980 to 2004. HBCDD concentrations has increased four to five times since 1980 until 2002 but seems to have stabilized at this concentration in the last years (2003/04). Similarly, BDE-153 has continued to increase at least to 2001, after which it has stabilized in the mother's milk. Other PBDE congeners with four to five bromine substituents peaked 5 years earlier (1995) and are all decreasing. DecaBDE (BDE-209) is not a suitable biomarker for time trend studies according to the present results, showing no changes over time. This is likely due to its short apparent half-life in humans and poor transfer from blood to milk.  相似文献

As part of a large European Union (EU)-funded comparative toxicology and human epidemiology study, EU-Compare, a selection of organohalogen compounds (OHCs) was analyzed in maternal serum, collected at the 35th week of pregnancy, and in cord serum of a number of their infants to determine maternal concentrations and to investigate the extent of transplacental transfer of these compounds. Eight neutral OHCs were analyzed: one polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB: CB-153),4,4'-DDE, five polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs: BDE-47, BDE-99, BDE-100, BDE-153, and BDE-154), and hexabromocyclododecane (HBCDD). Five phenolic OHCs were analyzed: three hydroxylated PCBs (40H-CB-107, 40H-CB-146, and 40H-CB-187), one hydroxylated PBDE (60H-BDE-47), and pentachlorophenol (PCP). All OHCs, except 60H-BDE-47, were present in maternal and cord serum. The historically identified OHCs showed the highest concentration: 4,4'-DDE (median value 89 ng/g lipid in maternal serum and 68 ng/g lipid in cord serum) and PCP (median value 970 pg/g serum in maternal serum and 1500 pg/g serum in cord serum). HBCDD and the PBDEs were present at much lower concentrations. We conclude that OHCs are present in the serum of pregnant women, and all compounds tested are transferred over the placenta. Because transfer is occurring at a critical stage of infant development, investigation of the health impact is urgent.  相似文献

It is well established that sensory perception becomes impaired with advancing age and that, in parallel, dystrophy and degeneration of axons occur in sensory pathways. In this study, the impact of aging was examined in the mystacial pad, which receives a large variety of sensory nerve endings organized in a highly predictable pattern. Mystacial pad specimens from aged (30 months old) and young adult (2-3 months old) female Sprague-Dawley rats were processed, in parallel, for immunohistochemical analyses with antibodies against human neuronal cytoplasmic protein (protein gene product 9.5), transmitter enzymes, and several neuropeptides. Several changes in cutaneous innervation including both degenerative and regenerative processes were evident in the aged rat: (1) the Merkel endings and lanceolate endings that emanate from large-caliber afferents in the whisker follicles were reduced and showed signs of degeneration. Furthermore, a reduction of piloneural complexes at the intervibrissal hairs were evident, but only in aged rats that showed more severe behavioral sensorimotor disturbances. In contrast, Ruffini endings as well as mechanoreceptors emanating from medium-caliber axons, i.e., transverse lanceolate and reticular endings, appeared normal. (2) A reduction was evident among two sets of unmyelinated epidermal endings; however, the epidermal innervation affiliated with the intervibrissal hairs appeared normal in the aged rat. (3) A loss of sympathetic neuropeptide tyrosine (NPY) or tyrosine hydroxylase-immunoreactive (IR) and somatosensory Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP)-IR perivascular axons was paralleled by an increase in presumed parasympathetic NPY/CGRP-IR axons. (4) Two "novel" networks of fine-caliber axons were observed in the outer and inner root sheaths of the whisker follicles in the aged rat. (5) NPY was present in a population of small-caliber, somatosensory CGRP-IR axons in the aged rat. This may represent a de novo synthesis, since, normally, NPY-like immunoreactivity is not observed in this set of axons. Our results suggest that the sensory impairments occurring with advancing age are part of a peripheral process instigated by changes in nerve-target interactions and/or incapacitation of the neuronal machinery to sustain the axonal integrity.  相似文献

Reconstitution of native and ruthenium-modified sperm whale myoglobins (Mb and Ru3Mb) with [OsII(MIX)(CO)(EtOH)] (MIX = mesoporphyrin IX-dicarboxylic acid) and [OsII(MIX)(DMF)2] yields carbonyl osmoglobin ([OsII(CO)][Mb]) and oxidized osmoglobins ([OsIII][Mb], [OsIII][Ru3Mb]). The visible spectrum of [OsII(CO)][Mb] exhibits and bands at 538 and 510 nm, respectively. The ultrastructural findings of the bone marrow cells from 15 patients with acquired sideroblastic anemia are presented. The red cell precursors from all patients showed the presence of electron-dense material in the mitochondria, representing most probably iron deposits. A great number of these mitochondria were completely destroyed. The erythropoietic precursors from one of the patients showed markedly elongated mitochondria that measured up to 3 microm. In addition numerous cytoplasmic vacuoles were observed. The red cell precursors from 60% of the patients showed signs of dyserythropoiesis, such as incomplete nuclear division and nuclear distortion. The polymorphonuclears from 47% of the patients presented nuclear abnormalities expressed as nuclear bridges, appendices, and blebs. In addition, phagocytosis of red blood cells was observed. The results of the study underline the advantages of the transmission electron microscope examination in visualization of intricate alterations in hematopoietic cells that cannot be detected with a light microscope.  相似文献

La9.335i6O26 oxygen ionic conductor was synthesized by solid state reaction method. Its structure was deter- mined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis at room temperature. The results showed that La9.33Si6O26 oxide has the apatite structure with space group P63/m. AC impedance measurements indicated that the oxides sintered in nitrogen have much higher conductivity than those sintered in air. The effects of grain boundaries on the conductivity were discussed.  相似文献

Nanotechnology has the potential to revolutionize cancer diagnosis and therapy. Advances in protein engineering and materials science have contributed to novel nanoscale targeting approaches that may bring new hope to cancer patients. Several therapeutic nanocarriers have been approved for clinical use. However, to date, there are only a few clinically approved nanocarriers that incorporate molecules to selectively bind and target cancer cells. This review examines some of the approved formulations and discusses the challenges in translating basic research to the clinic. We detail the arsenal of nanocarriers and molecules available for selective tumour targeting, and emphasize the challenges in cancer treatment.  相似文献

The low-temperature performance of vertical cavity lasers (VCL's) is of interest for high-speed data transmission from superconducting and cryogenic semiconductor circuits. Our double-fused 1.5 μm lasers employ a strain-compensated InGaAsP-InP multiquantum-well (MQW) active region that is sandwiched between two AlGaAs-GaAs distributed Bragg reflectors. Continuous wave (CW) lasing at ambient temperature as low as 7 K is measured on the same type of top-emitting devices that previously lased at a record-high temperature of 337 K. The optimum temperature is found at 180 K giving minimum threshold current, maximum modulation bandwidth of 5 GHz, and more than 3 GHz/mA1/2 modulation current efficiency. The optimum temperature agrees very well with the theoretical prediction. Further device optimization for cryogenic high-speed applications is discussed in detail  相似文献

The combination of resonant tunneling diodes (RTDs) and complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) silicon circuitry can offer substantial improvement in speed, power dissipation, and circuit complexity over CMOS-only circuits. We demonstrate the first integrated resonant tunneling CMOS circuit, a clocked 1-bit comparator with a device count of six, compared with 21 in a comparable all-CMOS design. A hybrid integration process is developed for InP-based RTDs which are transferred and bonded to CMOS chips. The prototype comparator shows sensitivity in excess of 106 VIA, and achieves error-free performance in functionality testing. An optimized integration process, under development, can yield high-speed, low power circuits by lowering the high parasitic capacitance associated with the prototype circuit  相似文献

N,N′‐Dinitrourea was prepared through nitration of urea at low temperature in mixed acids in 67 % yield. The prepared material was pure and found to be stable at room temperature. The properties of N,N′‐dinitrourea were analysed by: TG, DSC, ignition test in Wood's metal bath, NMR, MS, FT‐IR, gaspycnometry and BAM impact and friction sensitivity tests. N,N′‐Dinitrourea was found to have a very high density and positive oxygene balance. It was, however, found to be sensitive both to impact and friction.  相似文献
