The growing awareness of the relationship between diet and health has led to an increasing demand for food products that support health above and beyond providing basic nutrition. Probiotics are live organisms present in foods, which yield health benefits related to their interactions with the gastrointestinal tract. Phytases are a subgroup of phosphatases that catalyse the desphosphorylation of phytate, which reduces its negative impact on mineral bioavailability, and generates lower inositol phosphates. The aims of this investigation were to (i) study the ability of the probiotic candidate Bifidobacterium pseudocatenulatum to degrade phytate in synthetic medium, to (ii) identify the lower inositol phosphates generated, to (iii) study its survival under conditions mimicking gastrointestinal passage and finally to (iv) assess adhesion of the bacteria to Caco-2 cells. The first steps of InsP6 degradation by B. pseudocatenulatum phytate-degrading enzyme/s were preferentially initiated at the DL-6-position and 5-position of the myo-inositol ring. It suggests that the main InsP6 degradation pathway by B. pseudocatenulatum by sequential removal of phosphate groups was D/L-Ins(1,2,3,4,5)P5 or D/L-Ins(1,2,3,4,6)P5; D/L-Ins(1,2,3,4)P4; to finally Ins(1,2,3)P3 and D/L-Ins(1,2,4)P3/D/L-Ins(1,3,4)P3. This human strain also showed a notable tolerance to bile as well as a selective adhesion capacity (adhesion to control surfaces was zero), to human intestinal Caco-2 cells comparable to the commercial probiotic B. lactis. The phytate-degrading activity constitutes a novel metabolic trait which could contribute to the improvement of mineral absorption in the intestine as a nutritional probiotic feature with potential trophic effect in human gut. 相似文献

The current review focuses on the relevance and practical benefit of interpolymer radical coupling methods. The latter are developing rapidly and constitute a perfectly complementary macromolecular engineering toolbox to the controlled radical polymerization techniques (CRP). Indeed, all structures formed by CRP are likely to be prone to radical coupling reactions, which multiply the available synthetic possibilities. Basically, the coupling systems can be divided in two main categories. The first one, including the atom transfer radical coupling (ATRC), silane radical atom abstraction (SRAA) and cobalt-mediated radical coupling (CMRC), relies on the recombination of macroradicals produced from a dormant species. The second one, including atom transfer nitroxide radical coupling (ATNRC), single electron transfer nitroxide radical coupling (SETNRC), enhanced spin capturing polymerization (ESCP) and nitrone/nitroso mediated radical coupling (NMRC), makes use of a radical scavenger in order to promote the conjugation of the polymer chains. Sports nutrition is a constantly evolving field with hundreds of research papers published annually. For this reason, keeping up to date with the literature is often difficult. This paper is a five year update of the sports nutrition review article published as the lead paper to launch the JISSN in 2004 and presents a well-referenced overview of the current state of the science related to how to optimize training and athletic performance through nutrition. More specifically, this paper provides an overview of: 1.) The definitional category of ergogenic aids and dietary supplements; 2.) How dietary supplements are legally regulated; 3.) How to evaluate the scientific merit of nutritional supplements; 4.) General nutritional strategies to optimize performance and enhance recovery; and, 5.) An overview of our current understanding of the ergogenic value of nutrition and dietary supplementation in regards to weight gain, weight loss, and performance enhancement. Induction time for precipitation of calcium carbonate precipitated in mono ethylene glycol and water has been studied by conductivity measurements at ethylene glycol concentrations of 0–90 wt% and temperatures from 25 to 80 °C. The supersaturation ratios, S, were in the range of 3–10. The effect of the solvent was separated from the effect of the supersaturation and temperature. Increasing the concentration of ethylene glycol prolongs the induction times for precipitation of CaCO3 considerably although the supersaturation actually increases, especially at lower temperatures. It was shown that this effect cannot be explained by the change in the interfacial tension. Induction time studies in seeded and unseeded experiments were performed in order to separate changes in the nucleation rate from the impact of the growth time in the varying solvent compositions. The results show that crystal growth is retarded, causing the increased induction time in ethylene glycol containing solutions, and hence that the nucleation rate is actually promoted by ethylene glycol. The nucleation rates determined by measured particle numbers and induction times from unseeded experiments were underestimated for the same reason, thereby illustrating the complexity of nucleation rate investigations in mixed solvents. 相似文献

Doxorubicin is a commonly used antineoplastic agent in the treatment of many types of cancer. Little is known about the interactions of doxorubicin with cardiac biomolecules. Serious cardiotoxicity including dilated cardiomyopathy often resulting in a fatal congestive heart failure may occur as a consequence of chemotherapy with doxorubicin. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of exposure to doxorubicin on the changes in major amino acids in tissue of cardiac muscle (proline, taurine, glutamic acid, arginine, aspartic acid, leucine, glycine, valine, alanine, isoleucine, threonine, lysine and serine). An in vitro interaction study was performed as a comparison of amino acid profiles in heart tissue before and after application of doxorubicin. We found that doxorubicin directly influences myocardial amino acid representation even at low concentrations. In addition, we performed an interaction study that resulted in the determination of breaking points for each of analyzed amino acids. Lysine, arginine, β-alanine, valine and serine were determined as the most sensitive amino acids. Additionally we compared amino acid profiles of myocardium before and after exposure to doxorubicin. The amount of amino acids after interaction with doxorubicin was significantly reduced (p = 0.05). This fact points at an ability of doxorubicin to induce changes in quantitative composition of amino acids in myocardium. Moreover, this confirms that the interactions between doxorubicin and amino acids may act as another factor most likely responsible for adverse effects of doxorubicin on myocardium. 相似文献

The role of thiol/disulphide exchanges during acid gelation of preheated milk was studied with milk samples with or without N‐ethylmaleimide (NEM), a thiol‐blocking agent, and acidified to pH 4 by the addition of glucono‐delta‐lactone at 20 °C. Active or total thiol groups, particle size with light scattering measurements in a dissociating solvent or by SDS‐agarose electrophoresis were determined on acidified milk samples. Diffusing wave spectroscopy and rheology in low strain were applied during acidification of sample, while rheology in large strain was applied on final acid gels. The only effect of the presence of NEM was a reduced firmness of acid gels as measured at large strain and a reduced tendency to form large aggregates at pH<5.5. In conclusions, thiol/disulphide exchanges during acidification of milk played only a minor role in the building of acid gel networks from heated milk. 相似文献

A thermodynamic study of the adsorption of an epoxy acrylate resin used for UV-cured coatings on two different anticorrosion pretreatments on aluminium alloys relevant to aerospace industry has been undertaken. Aluminium alloy Al2219 specimens, treated with an inorganic chromate based conversion coating (Alodine 1200S) and an organic titanium based conversion coating (Nabutan STI/310), were immersed in solutions of different concentrations of the resin and adsorption isotherms were determined by assessing the uptake of the adsorbate, as a function of solution concentration, by time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS). The results show different behaviour for the two substrates, which can be attributed to the organic component of the titanium based coating. In the case of the inorganic conversion coating a clear plateau is achieved at relatively low concentrations and at a lower level of adsorption than for the hybrid coating. The data for both the coatings conform well to the Langmuir model, the organic coating, as well as showing a higher level of adsorption of the resin, also presents oscillatory behaviour at low concentration, which is shown to be complementary to the behaviour of the reactive diluent included with the epoxy acrylate to aid processing. A discussion of this competitive adsorption of the epoxy resin and the diluent on the different substrates is presented, based on considerations of the chemistry of the systems under investigation. 相似文献
