The essential oil of Lippia multiflora was prepared by hydrodistillation of leaves and stalks and characterized by GC and mass spectroscopy. The oil was tested for antimalarial activity on in vitro cultures of Plasmodium falciparum (FcB1-Columbia chloroquine-resistant strain and F32-Tanzania chloroquine-sensitive strain). The dilutions inhibiting the in vitro growth of the parasite by 50% 24 and 72 hr after administration of the essential oil to the parasite culture were 1/12,000 and 1/21,000, respectively. When tested on a highly synchronized culture, the essential oil inhibited growth mostly at the trophozoite-schizont step, indicating a potential effect on the first nuclear division of the parasite.  相似文献

The detailed structure of intensities in the local neighborhood of an edge can often indicate the nature of the physical event givinig rise to that edge. We argue that the limit, as we approach arbitrarily close to either side of an edge, of such image parameters as type of texture, texture gradient, color, appropriate directional derivatives of intensity, etc., is a key aspect of this structure. However, the general problem of capturing this local structure is surprisingly complex. Thus, we restrict ourselves in this paper to a relatively simple domain?one-dimensional cuts through idealized images modeled by piecewise smooth (C1) functions corrupted by Gaussian noise. Within this domain, we define local structure to be the limit of the uncorrupted intensity and of its derivatives as we approach arbitrarily close to either side of a discontinuity. We develop a technique that captures this local structure while simultaneously locating the discontinuities, and demonstrate that these tasks are in fact inseparable. The technique is an extension, using estimation theory, of the classical definition of discontinuity. It handles, in a consistent fashion, both jump discontinuities in the function and jump discontinuities in its first derivative (so-called step-edges are a special case of the former and roof-edges of the latter). It also integrates, again in a consistent fashion, information derived from a number of different neighborhood sizes.  相似文献

The influence of hyperhomocysteinemia (HHCy) on cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains unclear. HHCy is associated with inflammation and atherosclerosis, and it is an independent risk factor for CVD, stroke and myocardial infarction. However, homocysteine (HCy)-lowering therapy does not affect the inflammatory state of CVD patients, and it has little influence on cardiovascular risk. The HCy degradation product hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is a cardioprotector. Previous research proposed a positive role of H2S in the cardiovascular system, and we discuss some recent data suggesting that HHCy worsens CVD by increasing the production of H2S, which decreases the expression of adenosine A2A receptors on the surface of immune and cardiovascular cells to cause inflammation and ischemia, respectively.  相似文献

This paper deals with the coupling of polystyrene to a closely packed and highly ordered cationic vinylbenzyl silane (CVBS) on mica. It is shown that a thermal treatment is required for maximum retention of polystyrene on treated mica. Moreover, a thermal treatment at 250°C is much more effective than one at 170°C. The effect of the number of silane monolayers on mica was investigated. In general, one monolayer of CVBS gave optimum retention of polystyrene. The addition of peroxides further improved this retention and at the same time allowed the use of lower treatment temperatures. Some data are presented which consider the importance of the silane solution concentration and silane functional groups.  相似文献

Tomographic reconstruction of a binary image from few projections is considered. A novel heuristic algorithm is proposed, the central element of which is a nonlinear transformation ψ(p)=log(p/(1?p)) of the probability p that a pixel of the sought image be 1-valued. It consists of backprojections based on ψ(p) and iterative corrections. Application of this algorithm to a series of artificial test cases leads to exact binary reconstructions, (i.e., recovery of the binary image for each single pixel) from the knowledge of projection data over a few directions. Images up to 106 pixels are reconstructed in a few seconds. A series of test cases is performed for comparison with previous methods, showing a better efficiency and reduced computation times.  相似文献

Recent findings on the nutritive value of rapeseed oil (RSO) with high erucic acid content have been compared to those of canbra oil (CO), an oil extracted from newly bred Canadian rapeseed with no erucic acid. Erucic acid in diets retards animal growth even if food consumption is not altered. Growth performances of CO are as good as olive or peanut oil. The unbalanced ratio of palmitic acid to monoethylenic acids of CO does not affect rat growth rate. Because of its glyceride structure and high content of erucic acid, RSO has a lower digestibility (81%) than CO (96%) in the rat. Unabsorbed erucic acid is not preferentially excreted as calcium soaps. Interesterification of RSO which converts 31.7% of the erucic chains to the 2 position improves digestibility of erucic acid. 2-Monoerucin is more efficiently absorbed than the free acid. In vivo metabolic conversion of erucic to oleic acid has been proved in the rat. β-oxidation of injected 14-14C labeled erucic acid proceeded at the same rate as oleic acid but the over-all yield of the reaction was lower. Fatty acid composition of tissues in animals fed RSO or CO is influenced on one hand by erucic and gadoleic (C20∶1) acids of RSO, and on the other hand by the unbalanced ratio of palmitic-monoethylenic acids and the linolenic acid content of both oils. Nonnegligible amounts of erucic acid are deposited in the body fats of rats, chickens, turkeys, lambs and found in the milk of female rats fed RSO. Almost no erucic acid is incorporated in liver and testicles in the rat and it is not recovered in chicken egg yolk. The effect of RSO on rat reproduction has been re-examined. Dietary lipid and vitamin levels are of great importance in the results obtained. RSO induces myocarditis in several animal species. Similar lesions, although less frequent and severe, have been observed also with CO in the rat. Some authors have reported that erucic acid of RSO was responsible for the effect on heart muscle. Common fatty acid patterns to both RSO and CO have to be further investigated to explain the persisting effect of CO. Total lipid and phospholipid contents of liver, skin and depot fat from yearling hen turkeys have been studied. Liver lipid averaged 88.5 mg/g wet tissue; skin, 385.0 and depot fat, 753.5. Phospholipids comprised 32.05% of total lipid of liver, but only 0.81% of skin and 0.46% of depot fat. Fatty acids of liver differed from those of skin or depot fat by larger amounts of 16∶0, 18∶0, 20∶4, 22∶0 and 24∶0, and smaller amounts of 16∶1, 18∶1, 18∶2, 18∶3 and 20∶0. Mixtures of 90, 80, and 70 percent by weight bisphenol-A-polycarbonate (PC) and 10, 20, and 30 percent by weight styrene maleic anhydride (SMA) copolymer were melt-blended in a single screw extruder. Differential scanning calorimetry (DCS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to determine the miscibility of the blends. The viscosity, as a function of shear rate and temperature, was measured by an Instron capillary viscometer. The notched impact strength as a function of temperature was measured by an Izod impact tester. The results of DSC showed two glass transition temperatures which merged slightly towards each other, indicating marginal miscibility of these blends. There was a decrease in viscosity as the fraction of SMA copolymer was increased. The most significant decrease occurred with the initial addition of SMA copolymer. The viscosity also decreased with increases in temperature. The impact strength of the blends was also dependent on SMA copolymer content. The blends showed six to ten times lower impact strengths at room temperature than the 100 percent polycarbonate. SEM analysis helped to determine the reason why the impact strength was lower for the blends. High magnification showed the presence of SMA copolymer inclusions dispersed throughout the PC matrix. These inclusions, which increased in size as SMA copolymer content was increased, acted as defects in the system.  相似文献

Aliphatic urethane polymers have been synthesized and characterized, using monomers with high molecular symmetry, to form amorphous networks with very uniform supermolecular structures, which can be used as photo‐thermally actuable shape memory polymers (SMPs). The monomers used include hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI), trimethylhexamethylenediamine (TMHDI), N,N,N′,N′‐tetrakis(hydroxypropyl)ethylenediamine (HPED), triethanolamine (TEA), and 1,3‐butanediol (BD). The new polymers were characterized by solvent extraction, NMR, XPS, UV/VIS, DSC, DMTA, and tensile testing. The resulting polymers were found to be single phase amorphous networks with very high gel fraction, excellent optical clarity, and extremely sharp single glass transitions in the range of 34–153°C. Thermomechanical testing of these materials confirms their excellent shape memory behavior, high recovery force, and low mechanical hysteresis (especially on multiple cycles), effectively behaving as ideal elastomers above Tg. We believe these materials represent a new and potentially important class of SMPs, and should be especially useful in applications such as biomedical microdevices. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This paper describes evidence of (n−3) and particularly of 22∶6 (n−3) fatty acid enrichment in trout lipoproteins as well as in vitellogenin, egg lipovitellin and oil globule. Among the lipoproteins, HDL and LDL were the main forms of blood lipid transport, whereas phospholipids and cholesteryl esters are the preferential chemical carriers for (n−3) fatty acid transport. However, cholesteryl esters were less important as esterified fatty acid carriers than in man. Taken together with the data obtained in mammals, our results suggest that there may be a relationship between EFA activity and the distribution of the EFA among the lipoprotein lipid fractions in vertebrates, irrespective of the EFA series. Administration of an (n−3) fatty acid deficient diet for three months prior to trout spawning produced a significant increase in egg lipid content, primarily as a result of the increase of the oil globule composed almost exclusively of triacylglycerols. This diet decreased the 22∶6 (n−3), as well as the (n−3) fatty acid contents of lipoproteins, lipovitellin, vitellogenin and the oil globule. In contrast, the (n−3) fatty acid level was always higher in lipoproteins and lipovitellin than in the vitellogenin and the oil globule. Moreover, the relative levels of 22∶6 (n−3) and total (n−3) fatty acids were quite similar in lipoproteins and lipovitellin on the one hand, and in vitellogenin and the oil globule on the other. These findings suggest a direct relationship between the two forms of plasma lipid transport and the two egg compartments. During ovogenesis, dietary lipids seemed to be diverted from the adipose tissue and essentially deposited in the egg.  相似文献
