This survey examined 306 samples of farm-stored wheat, barley and oats as received at, or tested by, central grain depots in the UK. Samples were taken from lorries or from stored grain using the existing inhouse procedures used for quality checking and examined for ochratoxin A using a fully validated analytical HPLC method with a detection limit of 0.1 μg/kg. Ochratoxin A was detected in 21 % of the samples examined, with barley more frequently contaminated than wheat. Mean concentrations of ochratoxin A found for all samples were 0.69 μg/kg in barley, 0.29 μg/kg in wheat and 0.15 μg/kg in oats. The highest concentration found was 17.8 μg/kg in a barley feed although concentrations of 81 and 30 μg/kg were found in 'reject-grade' wheat samples whose results were excluded from the main survey. In summary, 2.7 and 0.3 % of samples exceeded concentrations of 5 and 10 μg/kg respectively. There appeared to be significant relationships between ochratoxin A concentrations and moisture content, storage time and geographical area. Although conditions at harvest in 1997 were quite variable countrywide and often wet, results were similar to those found in earlier surveys carried out in the UK.  相似文献

To assess the effects of pH, heating rate and endpoint temperature on instrumental and visual color of ground beef, pH was adjusted to 5.2–6.4, samples were heated at 0.7°C or 3°C/min to 55, 60, 65, 70, 75 or 80°C in a water bath. Cooking rate had no effect on cook loss, instrumental or visual color. Regression equations for linear, quadratic and/or cubic effects of pH and/or endpoint temperature were significant for most color indices. Amount of variance explained by the model and R2 was increased by adding the calculated percentages of metmyoglobin and/or deoxymyoglobin to the regression models. The predicted sensory brownness score (0=very pink, 7.5=intermediate pink/brown, 15=intense brown) for samples with pH 5.75 cooked to 70°C was 9.75. Samples with a pH of 5.5 achieved this brownness score at 67°C. Samples with a pH of 5.2 achieved this brownness at 58°C.  相似文献

In this paper, we present a novel scheme for performing fixed-point arithmetic efficiently on fine-grain, massively parallel, programmable architectures including both custom and FPGA-based systems. We achieve anO(n) speedup, wheren is the operand precision, over the bit-serial methods of existing fine-grain systems such as the DAP, the MPP and the CM2, within the constraints of regular, near neighbor communication and only a small amount of on-chip memory. This is possible by means of digit pipelined algorithms which avoid broadcast and which operate in a fully systolic manner by pipelining at the digit level. A base 4, signed-digit, fully redundant number system and on-line techniques are used to limit carry propagation and minimize communication costs. p ]Although our algorithms are digit-serial, we are able to match the performance of the bit-parallel methods, while retaining low communication complexity. Reconfigurable hardware systems built using field programmable gate arrays (FPGA's) can share in the speed benefits of these algorithms. By using the organization of logic blocks suggested in this paper, problems of placement and routing that exist in such systems can be avoided. Since the algorithms are amenable to pipelining, very high throughput can be obtained.  相似文献

We present two novel entropy-based measures that quantify sleep-stage transition dynamics (sleep structure) from polysomnogram derived hypnograms: Walsh spectral entropy (WSE) and Haar spectral entropy (HSE). These measures quantify patterns of temporal regularity of a categorical time series without requiring numerical encoding (scaling) of the (categorical) sleep stages. Additionally, we show that conditional entropy (CE) is well suited for quantifying predictability of the hypnogram. The relationship of those measures with traditional sleep fragmentation indices (arousal index, total sleep time, and sleep efficiency) is explored for a 394 participant sample of the Cleveland Family Study, an epidemiologic study in which standardized single-night polysomnogram data were collected. The new entropy-based sleep structure measures (WSE, HSE, and CE) are positively correlated (moderate to weak) with the traditional sleep fragmentation indices. Because the sleep structure measures developed in this paper provide direct information related to temporal patterns of sleep that is not contained in traditional sleep fragmentation measures, the correlation between these new alternative sleep structure measures and the traditional sleep fragmentation measures is less important. Our goal is not to develop alternative measures that correlate highly with traditional measures of sleep fragmentation, but rather to provide methods to quantify sleep structure by examining other (e.g., dynamic sleep-stage transition) properties of the hypnogram. Additionally, the relationship of the new entropy-based and traditional measures with daytime sleepiness as quantified by the Epworth sleepiness scale (ESS) is investigated. Multiple linear regression analysis shows that WSE has a stronger relationship with ESS than the traditional measures, even after both are adjusted for common confounders (age, race, gender, and body mass index). This further suggests that the entropy-based measures, especially WSE, are capturing additional temporal patterns of sleep not captured in the traditional sleep fragmentation measures, and have a relationship with daytime sleepiness.  相似文献

Despite the approval of oncolytic virus (OV) therapy for advanced melanoma, its intrinsic limitations that include the risk of persistent viral infection and cost‐intensive manufacturing motivate the development of analogous approaches that are free from the disadvantages of virus‐based therapies. Herein, reported is a nanoassembly comprised of multivalent host–guest interactions between polymerized paclitaxel (pPTX) and nitric oxide‐incorporated polymerized β‐cyclodextrin (pCD‐pSNO) that through its bioactive components and when used locoregionally recapitulates the therapeutic effects of OV. The resultant pPTX/pCD‐pSNO exhibits significantly enhanced cytotoxicity, immunogenic cell death, dendritic cell (DC) activation, and T cell expansion in vitro compared to free agents alone or in combination. In vivo, intratumoral administration of pPTX/pCD‐pSNO results in activation and expansion of DCs systemically, but with a corresponding expansion of myeloid‐derived suppressor cells and suppression of CD8+ T cell expansion. When combined with antibody targeting cytotoxic T lymphocyte antigen‐4 that blunts this molecule's signaling effects on T cells, intratumoral pPTX/pCD‐pSNO treatment elicits potent anticancer effects that significantly prolong animal survival. This formulation thus leverages the chemo‐ and immunotherapeutic synergies of PTX and nitric oxide and suggests the potential for virus‐free nanoformulations to mimic the therapeutic action and benefits of OVs.  相似文献

Littoral habitats in large rivers are influenced to varying degrees by changes in discharge. Irrigation abstractions can increase the amount of habitat that would naturally be dewatered during low flow periods and therefore it is important to have some knowledge of the potential impact this may have on riverine macroinvertebrates. The macroinvertebrate assemblages of common littoral habitats in riffles, pools and runs in two reaches each of the Macquarie and Mersey Rivers, northern Tasmania, Australia were compared from samples collected during the low flow and irrigation season, between December 1991 and April 1992. The area under water of these habitats, riffle substrata, macrophyte beds and coarse woody debris, responded differently to changes in discharge. Within a reach, the same taxonomic groups often dominated the total number of macroinvertebrates for all habitats, but there were differences in the proportions contributed by these taxa to the different habitats. In general, taxa characteristic of slow-flowing or lentic habitats, such as ostracods and amphipods, were dominant in macrophyte beds in pools and runs, whereas taxa such as larval elmid beetles and hydropsychid caddisflies were dominant in riffles. A substantial component of the fauna from each habitat within a reach was unique to that habitat, but there was always a similar number of taxa common to all habitats. Classification and ordination grouped samples from both rivers firstly by habitat and secondly by month and reach. Total density and family richness of invertebrates differed by reach, habitat and month in both rivers, except for richness in the Mersey River where habitat was not significant. Differences in densities and numbers of invertebrate families among habitats were not consistent between reaches for each river. This study has highlighted the differences in macroinvertebrate assemblages of several littoral habitats in two lowland rivers in Tasmania. Differences in taxonomic composition, density and richness among habitats within reaches strongly imply the uniqueness of these habitats in terms of the invertebrate faunas that occupy them. We suggest that if maintenance of biotic diversity is an aim of instream flow management, water allocations that address low flows should place a high priority on the maintenance of a diversity of habitats.  相似文献

Power consumption is a top priority in high performance circuit design today. Many low power techniques have been proposed to tackle the ever serious, highly pressing power consumption problem, which is composed of both dynamic and static power in the nanometer era. The static power consumption nowadays receives even more attention than that of dynamic power consumption when technology scales below 100 nm. In order to mitigate the aggressive power consumption, various existing low power techniques are often used; however, they are often applied independently or combined with two or at most three different techniques together, and that is not sufficient to address the escalating power issue. In this paper, we present a power optimization framework for the minimization of total power consumption in combinational logic through multiple V dd assignment, multiple V th assignment, device sizing, and stack forcing, while maintaining performance requirements. These four power reduction techniques are properly encoded into the genetic algorithm and evaluated simultaneously. The overhead imposed by the insertion of level converters is also taken into account. The effectiveness of each power reduction mechanism is verified, as are the combinations of different approaches. Experimental results are presented for a number of 65 nm benchmark circuits that span typical circuit topologies, including inverter chains, SRAM decoders, multiplier, and a 32 bit carry adder. Our experiments show that the combination of four low power techniques is the effective way to achieve low power budget. The framework is general and can be easily extended to include other design-time low power techniques, such as multiple gate length or multiple gate oxide thickness.  相似文献

Telehealth is the use of electronic information and communication technology to deliver health and medical information and services over large and small distances. Broadband wireless services available today, along with more powerful and convenient handheld devices, will enable a transformational change in health management and healthcare with the introduction of real-time monitoring and timely responses to a wide array of patient needs. Further, a network of low-cost sensors and wireless systems help in creating constantly vigilant and pervasive monitoring capability at home and at work. This paper addresses recent efforts in this growing field, including standards, system architectures, propagation models, and lower layer protocols for body area networks. The paper also suggests the use of cooperative transmission-based strategies for such wireless topologies.  相似文献

Effective techniques for extending lifetime in multi-hop wireless sensor networks include duty cycling and, more recently introduced, cooperative transmission (CT) range extension. However, a scalable MAC protocol has not been presented that combines both. An On-demand Scheduling Cooperative MAC protocol (OSC-MAC) is proposed to address the energy hole problem in multi-hop wireless sensor networks (WSNs). By combining an on-demand strategy and sensor cooperation intended to extend range, OSC-MAC tackles the spatio-temporal challenges for performing CT in multi-hop WSNs: cooperating nodes are neither on the same duty cycle nor are they necessarily in the same collision domain. We use orthogonal and pipelined duty-cycle scheduling, in part to reduce traffic contention, and devise a reservation-based wake-up scheme to bring cooperating nodes into temporary synchrony to support CT range extension. The efficacy of OSC-MAC is demonstrated using extensive NS-2 simulations for different network scenarios without and with mobility. Compared with existing MAC protocols, simulation results show that while we explicitly account for the overhead of CT and practical failures of control packets in dense traffic, OSC-MAC still gives 80–200 % lifetime improvement.  相似文献
