This paper concerns the identification of nonlinear discrete causal systems that can be approximated with the Wiener–Volterra series. Some advances in the efficient use of Lee–Schetzen (L–S) method are presented, which make practical the estimate of long memory and high order models. Major problems in L–S method occur in the identification of diagonal kernel elements. Two approaches have been considered: approximation of gridded data, with interpolation or smoothing, and improved techniques for diagonal elements estimation. In this letter, we provide a study of learning in a Hilbert space of vectorvalued functions. We motivate the need for extending learning theory of scalar-valued functions by practical considerations and establish some basic results for learning vector-valued functions that should prove useful in applications. Specifically, we allow an output space Y to be a Hilbert space, and we consider a reproducing kernel Hilbert space of functions whose values lie in Y. In this setting, we derive the form of the minimal norm interpolant to a finite set of data and apply it to study some regularization functionals that are important in learning theory. We consider specific examples of such functionals corresponding to multiple-output regularization networks and support vector machines, for both regression and classification. Finally, we provide classes of operator-valued kernels of the dot product and translation-invariant type.  相似文献

The study presented in this paper aims at improving the current understanding of human-robot interaction by adopting a psychological approach. The acceptability of robotic devices in home settings, especially by elderly people, does not depend only on the practical benefits they can provide, but on complex relationships between the cognitive, affective and emotional components of peoples images of robots. This study has investigated the main dimensions of these representations, by comparing the attitudes towards technology in general, and domestic robots in particular, held by people at different stages of the lifespan. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been used to study the variations of internal structure and chemical–physical characteristics of cherry tomatoes (Lycopersicon esculentum cv. Shiren), one the most economically valuable horticultural crops, in different harvesting seasons. In particular, the study focused on PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) Pachino cherry tomatoes, characterised by taste and nutritional value, notably in the winter production, amounting about 500 ton/year.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Farming is considered one of the main causes of land degradation and underground water pollution. The increased availability of agricultural inputs has led to a dramatic rise in yields, which has resulted in soil fertility spoilage and overuse of fertilisers. Therefore horticultural practice improvement must consider appropriate nitrogen (N) management. This paper reports results on the application of an optical diagnostic system (N‐tester) to guide N fertilisation in muskmelon (Cucumis melo L.) over a 3 year trial. Results on fresh and postharvest quality are also presented. RESULTS: Fertilisation events mirrored increases in N‐tester values during the season, and a significant linear relationship (R2 = 0.628) was observed between N‐tester readings and leaf chlorophyll content. The N‐tester‐guided fertilisation treatments were characterised by yields comparable to the control, but with significantly lower applications of N (down to 17–66% of the N distributed in the control). Moreover, the N‐tester treatments yielded fruits with higher sugar content. This was also true after storage, when N‐tester fruits also showed reduced weight loss associated with lower transpiration and ethylene emission rates. CONCLUSION: Through the use of ‘spy plots’ kept at optimal nutritional status and the adoption of a threshold for N application throughout the growing cycle of muskmelon, the N supply was significantly reduced. Therefore a correct application of N‐tester allowed the plant N requirement to be reduced and the fruit sugar content and storability to be increased without adversely affecting the yield. The aim of this research was to study the biodiversity of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) in marinated seafood salad (pH 5.0) and their interaction on the growth of Listeria monocytogenes. LAB were highly present in the samples considered in this study, reaching values of 8.0 log cfu/g at the end of product’s shelf-life. A high biodiversity in terms of LAB species and strains was detected by means of RAPD–PCR within the 171 bacterial isolates collected. Among them Lactobacillus curvatus, Lactobacillus sanfranciscensis and Enterococcus were present in all the salad batches considered. Three challenge tests against L. monocytogenes were carried out in order to assess the growth of this pathogen in the presence of dominant populations of LAB. L. monocytogenes tended to decrease in time, suggesting that a stable concentration of LAB inhibits the development of this pathogenic micro-organism.  相似文献

Aiming at creating smart nanomaterials for biomedical applications, nanotechnology aspires to develop a new generation of nanomaterials with the ability to recognize different biological components in a complex environment. It is common opinion that nanomaterials must be coated with organic or inorganic layers as a mandatory prerequisite for applications in biological systems. Thus, it is the nanomaterial surface coating that predominantly controls the nanomaterial fate in the biological environment. In the last decades, interdisciplinary studies involving not only life sciences, but all branches of scientific research, provided hints for obtaining uncoated inorganic materials able to interact with biological systems with high complexity and selectivity. Herein, the fragmentary literature on the interactions between bare abiotic materials and biological components is reviewed. Moreover, the most relevant examples of selective binding and the conceptualization of the general principles behind recognition mechanisms were provided. Nanoparticle features, such as crystalline facets, density and distribution of surface chemical groups, and surface roughness and topography were encompassed for deepening the comprehension of the general concept of recognition patterns.  相似文献

In this paper we report the fabrication of thiolene‐based microstructured reactors (MRs) that have been specifically designed to include solid‐supported reagents within the microchannels network. We propose a convenient solution to realize reversible press‐fit, leak‐proof interconnects that greatly simplify the MR coupling to the external environment such as capillary tubing, sample reservoirs and pumps. The MRs have been used to carry out the oxidation of α‐terpinene and methionine using [60]fullerene, covalently linked to Tentagel® and silica gel matrices, as a singlet oxygen sensitizer. High conversions have been observed for both substrates although, in the case of α‐terpinene, a partial photodegradation of the endo‐peroxide product was detected. Interestingly, in the case of methionine, a quantitative conversion to the corresponding sulfoxides was achieved in about 40 seconds, using low‐power, white LED illumination. The reaction time is considerably shorter when compared to the batch procedure that requires, for the same process, about one hour illumination and the use of a 300‐W tungsten halogen lamp.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: The use of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) for assessing the deterioration effect of microwave heating on vegetable oils, and on olive oils in particular, has been partially explored in literature. The aim of this work was to evaluate the potential of DSC to discriminate among microwaved extra virgin olive oils (EvOo from different olive cultivar and origin), according to changes on thermal properties (upon cooling and heating) and traditional oxidative stability indices (peroxide, p‐anisidine and TOTOX values). RESULTS: An elevated value of lipid oxidation was reached by the most unsaturated EvOo sample (9.5% of linoleic acid) at 6 min of microwave treatment. Free acidity significantly increased (0.42%) only for the oil sample with the highest water content (874 mg kg?1 oil) at the longest time of treatment. Crystallisation enthalpies significantly decreased and the major exothermic peak shifted towards lower temperature, leading to enlargement of the transition range in all samples due to the formation of weak and mixed crystals among triacylglycerols and lipid degradation products. On the contrary, thermal properties upon heating appeared to similarly vary among samples. CONCLUSIONS: The analysis of DSC thermal properties upon cooling seemed to clearly discriminate among different EvOo samples after microwaving. The relation between changes of thermal properties and oxidation parameters should be further studied using additional oxidative stability indices on a larger set of oil samples, due to the complexity of EvOo composition.
