The present study focuses on how candidates in the Dutch general elections of 2010 use Twitter, a popular microblogging and social networking service. Specifically the study focuses on explaining why some candidates are more likely to adopt Twitter, have larger networks, and show more reciprocation than other candidates. The innovation hypothesis, predicting that candidates from less established and smaller parties will use Twitter more extensively, is unsupported. This suggests that normalization of campaign practices is present on Twitter, not changing existing communication practices. The findings do show that being an early adopter of these new technologies is more effective than adoption shortly before Election Day.  相似文献

This paper describes a collection of optimization algorithms for achieving dynamic planning, control, and state estimation for a bipedal robot designed to operate reliably in complex environments. To make challenging locomotion tasks tractable, we describe several novel applications of convex, mixed-integer, and sparse nonlinear optimization to problems ranging from footstep placement to whole-body planning and control. We also present a state estimator formulation that, when combined with our walking controller, permits highly precise execution of extended walking plans over non-flat terrain. We describe our complete system integration and experiments carried out on Atlas, a full-size hydraulic humanoid robot built by Boston Dynamics, Inc.  相似文献

We describe a compact luminescent gaseous oxygen (O2) sensor microsystem based on the direct integration of sensor elements with a polymeric optical filter and placed on a low power complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) imager integrated circuit (IC). The sensor operates on the measurement of excited-state emission intensity of O2-sensitive luminophore molecules tris(4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline) ruthenium(II) ([Ru(dpp)3]2+) encapsulated within sol-gel derived xerogel thin films. The polymeric optical filter is made with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) that is mixed with a dye (Sudan-II). The PDMS membrane surface is molded to incorporate arrays of trapezoidal microstructures that serve to focus the optical sensor signals on to the imager pixels. The molded PDMS membrane is then attached with the PDMS color filter. The xerogel sensor arrays are contact printed on top of the PDMS trapezoidal lens-like microstructures. The CMOS imager uses a 32 × 32 (1024 elements) array of active pixel sensors and each pixel includes a high-gain phototransistor to convert the detected optical signals into electrical currents. Correlated double sampling circuit, pixel address, digital control and signal integration circuits are also implemented on-chip. The CMOS imager data is read out as a serial coded signal. The CMOS imager consumes a static power of 320 μW and an average dynamic power of 625 μW when operating at 100 Hz sampling frequency and 1.8 V DC. This CMOS sensor system provides a useful platform for the development of miniaturized optical chemical gas sensors.  相似文献

Product Data Management (PDM) systems support the product/document management of design processes such as those typically used in the manufacturing industry. They allow enterprises to capture, organise, automate and share engineering information in an efficient way. The efficient handling of queries on product information and the uploading and downloading of families of related files for modification by designers are essential aspects of such systems. The efficiency of the system as perceived by its clients depends on its correct functioning, but also for a significant part on its performance aspects. In this article, we apply both qualitative and stochastic model-checking techniques to evaluate various usability and performance aspects of the thinkteam PDM system, and of several proposed extensions, thereby assisting the design phase of an industrial groupware system.  相似文献

We present novel, comprehensive visualization techniques for the diagnosis of patients with Coronary Artery Disease using segmented cardiac MRI data. We extent an accepted medical visualization technique called the bull's eye plot by removing discontinuities, preserving the volumetric nature of the left ventricular wall and adding anatomical context. The resulting volumetric bull's eye plot can be used for the assessment of transmurality. We link these visualizations to a 3D view that presents viability information in a detailed anatomical context. We combine multiple MRI scans (whole heart anatomical data, late enhancement data) and multiple segmentations (polygonal heart model, late enhancement contours, coronary artery tree). By selectively combining different rendering techniques we obtain comprehensive yet intuitive visualizations of the various data sources.  相似文献

We present here SIMS images of the distribution of inorganic cations (Na, K, Mg and Ca) in frozen-hydrated samples of three plant species, ivy, camomile, and flax. The samples were cryofixed using fast plunge-freezing. Stigmatic images were obtained, at 100 K, under dynamic SIMS conditions by fast atom bombarding (FAB). Even though the images obtained with the frozen-hydrated plant samples are still not of upper quality, they show that the method used to prepare these samples preserves existing ionic gradients between the outer and the inner part of the cells, between adjacent cells, including cells with the same type of differentiation, and between tissues. We also describe the quantification of the relative proportions of the ions in the vacuoles of flax. The reasonable accuracy achieved for quantification of the vacuole ion ratios permitted to show (i) that radial gradients of ion ratios in hypocotyls change when the plant is becoming older and (ii) that large differences may exist between adjacent cortical cells of the same type. The role of these substantial differences in vacuole ion balance ratios is a largely unexplored issue in plant physiology.  相似文献

A simple intercalating agent-free approach to prepare epoxy/montmorillonite (MMT) clay nanocomposite is reported. Through this new approach, no organic modifiers are needed. Thus, the cost for preparing polymer nanocomposites can be significantly reduced. The extent of dispersion and exfoliation of clay in epoxy was characterized by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy observations. It is found that the MMT clay is well-dispersed in epoxy matrix. The clay platelets in epoxy show a stacked structure with dimensions of about 1–2 μm in length and about 20 nm in thickness. At 4.5 wt% of clay loading level, the flexural modulus of the epoxy nanocomposite is increased by about 35%. No reduction in fracture toughness or glass-transition temperature is observed. Polymers were used in the experiments to determine optimum type and dosage requited for effective treatment of an industrial effluent containing nitrocellulose fine particles. It was found that (a) contact flocculation filtration was not effective for treating the nitrocellulose-manufacturing wastewater due to the high initial turbidity; (b) mixing, flocculation, and settling of the wastewater with cationic polyelectrolyte and bentonite clay gave greater than 95% turbidity removal; (c) with the same optimum chemical dosages, mixing, flocculation and centrifugation also gave about 97% turbidity removal; and (d) with the same optimum chemical dosages, mixing, flocculation, sedimentation and filtration removed 99.9% of the wastewater turbidity.  相似文献

Ozone accumulation in water was compared with aqueous methylene blue (MB) degradation in a stirred semi-batch reactor. Comparable concentrations of gas-phase ozone, generated by parallel-plate dielectric-barrier AC discharge in high-purity oxygen, were allowed to contact the tested liquid using one of three regimens of ozone generation: (1) dry ex-situ; (2) humid ex-situ; and (3) humid in-situ ( “electroozonation” ). Results from (1) and (2) were similar, whereas in case (3) a slower ozone accumulation rate was contrasted by a three times faster MB degradation. A faster decomposition of aqueous ozone due to an assumed prevalence of free-radical induced MB degradation over direct ozonation in case (3) are indicative of a process similar to glow-discharge electrolysis.  相似文献
