Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) and Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) image compression techniques have been utilized in most of the earth observation satellites launched during the last few decades. However, these techniques have some issues that should be addressed. The DWT method has proven to be more efficient than DCT for several reasons. Nevertheless, the DCT can be exploited to improve the high-resolution satellite image compression when combined with the DWT technique. Hence, a proposed hybrid (DWT–DCT) method was developed and implemented in the current work, simulating an image compression system on-board on a small remote sensing satellite, with the aim of achieving a higher compression ratio to decrease the onboard data storage and the downlink bandwidth, while avoiding further complex levels of DWT. This method also succeeded in maintaining the reconstructed satellite image quality through replacing the standard forward DWT thresholding and quantization processes with an alternative process that employed the zero-padding technique, which also helped to reduce the processing time of DWT compression. The DCT, DWT and the proposed hybrid methods were implemented individually, for comparison, on three LANDSAT 8 images, using the MATLAB software package. A comparison was also made between the proposed method and three other previously published hybrid methods. The evaluation of all the objective and subjective results indicated the feasibility of using the proposed hybrid (DWT–DCT) method to enhance the image compression process on-board satellites. 相似文献

Surrogate models have been applied to shape optimizations of a micromixer with the aim of assessing the performance of the
models. The surrogate models considered include polynomial response surface approximation, Kriging, and radial basis neural
network. In addition, a weighted average model based on global error measures is constructed. A mixing index at the exit of
the micromixer is used as the objective function. The mixing index is calculated based on Navier-Stokes equations. Two cases
of optimization, one with two design variables and the other with three design variables, have been tested. The design variables
are selected among the ratio of the groove depth to channel height, the angle of groove, and the ratio of groove width to
groove pitch. D-Optimal design generated sampling points are used for sampling. It is found that although the weighted average

In this work, the normalized Internal Model Control (IMC) filter time constant is designed to achieve a specified value of the maximum sensitivity for stable first and second order plus time delay process models, respectively. Since a particular value of the maximum sensitivity results in an almost constant percentage overshoot to controller setpoint change, an empirical relationship between the normalized IMC filter time constant and percentage overshoot is presented. The main advantage of the proposed method is that only a user-defined overshoot is required to design a PI/PID controller. Features of pesticide synergism and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibition (in vitro) were studied using a selected range of organotin compounds against the early 4th instar larvae of a highly resistant strain of the diamondback moth (DBM), Plutella xylostella, a major universal pest of cruciferous vegetables.Fourteen triorganotin compounds were evaluated for their ability to enhance the toxicity of the microbial insecticide, Bacillus thuringiensis (BT) and of the commercial insecticide, Malathion to Plutella xylostella larvae. Supplemental synergism was observed with triphenyl- and tricyclopentyltin hydroxides in combinations with Bacillus thuringiensis. Increased synergism was observed with an increase in the number of cyclopentyl groups on tin in the mixed series, Cyp(n) Ph(3-n) SnX, where X = OH, and 1-(1,2,4-triazolyl). The combination of (p-chlorophenyl)diphenyltin N,N-dimethyldithiocarbamate at LD(10) and LD(25) concentrations with sublethal concentrations of Malathion as well as of tricyclohexyltin methanesulphonate at the 0.01% (w/v) concentration with Malathion exerted strong synergistic effects (supplemental synergism) with toxicity index (T.I) values of 7.2, 19.8 and 10.1, respectively.Studies on the in vitro inhibition of acetylcholinesterase prepared from the DBM larvae showed that while most of the triorganotin Compounds tested were without effect on the enzyme, compounds containing the thiocarbamylacetate or the dithiocarbamylacetate moieties demonstrated appreciable levels of inhibition, being comparable in efficacy to commercial grades of Malathion and Methomyl. 相似文献

In the present study, oil palm wood flour (OPWF) particles with less than 250 μm sizes have been used as filler materials
in the woven-glass-fiber reinforced epoxy composite. The hybrid composites were fabricated using a hand lay-up method and
cured at room temperature under a compressive load of 196 N (20 kg). The OPWF of 2.5 to 10 parts per hundred (pph) by weight
was used to evaluate its effect on impact strength of the hybrid composites at a range of temperature from −50 to 50 °C. The
impact strength, evaluated using V-notch Charpy method, showed reduction with increasing filler content up to 5 pph and then
the strength increment in those composites containing more than 5 pph OPWF. More severe damages were found in specimens with
higher filler contents resulting higher energy absorption during impact. The composites with a large amount of OPWF particles
deflected crack propagation paths or created obstacles at the crack tips and increased toughness of the composites. The impact
strength was found to decrease when the samples fractured at subzero temperatures and this happened because of the reduction

This study intends to investigate the vibration behavior of a thin square orthotropic plate resting on non-uniform elastic foundation and its thickness varying in one or two directions. By using the classical plate theory and employing element free Galerkin method, it is shown that the fundamental frequency coefficients obtained are in good agreement with available results in the literature. The effects of thickness variation, foundation parameter and boundary conditions on frequency are investigated. This paper presents the design, fabrication and experimental results of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) based strain sensors. The sensors were fabricated by pressed CNTs tablets and elastic polymer beam. The diameter of multiwalled nanotubes (MWNTs) varied between 10 and 30 nm. The tablets of multiwalled CNTs having nominal thickness of 1.0 mm were pressed at a pressure of 200 and 300 MPa. The inter-electrodes distance (length) and width of the surface-type samples were in the range of 10–12 mm and 5–6 mm respectively.
