The focus of the present study is to investigate the effectiveness of installing vortex breakers at the outlet of launch vehicle tanks on postponing vortex formation and decreasing the critical height of propellants while discharging. Analytical results in the absence of a vortex breaker show that the effects of the Weber and Reynolds numbers in the flow field can be ignored for values greater than 720 and 1.1 × 105, respectively; and critical height can be considered as a function of Froude number under aforementioned conditions. The analytical criteria are verified by two-dimensional, axis symmetrical, transient and two-phase numerical model. Eventually, some experiments are conducted to examine the effectiveness of the applied vortex breakers in reduction of the critical height of propellant. Experimental results show that a 30% decrease can be achieved in critical height by using a particular type of vortex breaker. Additionally, the carried out simulations for an existing two-stage launch vehicle indicate a 13% increase in orbital altitude, which in turn proves the considerable improvement in launch vehicle mass/energetic capabilities.  相似文献

Studies in recent years have attempted to forecast macroeconomic phenomena with neural networks reporting mixed results. This work represents an investigation of this problem using U.S. Real Gross Domestic Production and Industrial Production as case studies. This work is based on a coefficient of determination which accurately measures the ability of linear or nonlinear models to forecast economic data. The significance of our work is twofold: (1) It confirms recent work that neural networks significantly outperform linear regression due to nonlinearities inherent in the data sets, and (2) it provides a systematic approach that guarantees to find the maximum correlation between input(s) and output of interest. A monolithic integrated low-noise amplifier for operation in the 5.8-GHzband is described. Two different versions have been implemented where the biasing wasadapted to allow operation over a different range of supply voltage. At 5-V, theamplifiers gain is about 17-dB, with a noise figure of 4.2-dB and 1-dB compressionpoint at –15-dBm input power. An emerging sensor technology referred to as electric cell-substrate impedance sensing (ECIS) has been extended for monitoring the behavior of insect cells including attachment, motility, and mortality. In ECIS, adherent cells were cultured on an array of eight small gold electrodes deposited on the bottom of tissue culture wells and immersed in a culture medium. Upon the attachment and spreading of cells on the gold electrode, the impedance increased because the cells acted as insulating particles to restrict the current flow. Experimental data revealed that insect cells interacted differently with various proteins used to precoat the gold electrode with concanavalin A as the best promoter to accelerate the rate of cell attachment. After the cells were fully spread, the measured impedance continued to fluctuate to reflect the constant motion and metabolic activity of the cells. As the cell behavior was sensitive to external chemicals, the applicability of ECIS for inhibition assays was demonstrated with HgCl2, trinitrotoluene, trinitrobenzene (TNB), and 2-amino-4,6-dinitrotoluene as model systems. Unlike conventional assays, the quantitative data obtained in this study are taken in real time and in a continuous fashion to depict cell motility and mortality.  相似文献

The use of fiber reinforced plastics (FRPs) for flexural and shear strengthening of reinforced concrete beams has been scrutinized to a considerable depth by researchers worldwide. The area of torsional strengthening however has not been as popular. This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation together with a numerical study on reinforced concrete beams subjected to torsion that are strengthened with FRP wraps in a variety of configurations. In the experimental study, the increase in the ultimate torque for different strengthening configurations, failure mechanisms, crack patterns, and ductility levels are monitored and presented. Experimental results show that FRP wraps can increase the ultimate torque of fully wrapped beams considerably in addition to enhancing the ductility. The experimental results upgrade the weak archival data on torsional strengthening by application of FRP. The numerical section reports on analyses performed by the ANSYS finite element program. Predictions are compared with experimental findings and are in reasonable agreement.  相似文献

Though the effect of fringing field in electrostatic parallel-plate actuators is a well-understood phenomenon, the existing formulations often result in complicated mathematical models from which it is difficult to determine the deflection of the moving plate for given voltages and hence, they are not suitable for accurate actuation control. This work presents a new formulation for tackling the fringing field, in which the effect of fringing field is modeled as a variable serial capacitor. Based on this model, a robust control scheme is constructed using the theory of input-to-state stabilization (ISS) and backstepping state feedback design. This method allows loosening the stringent requirements on modeling accuracy without compromising the performance. The stability and the performance of the system using this control scheme are demonstrated through both stability analysis and numerical simulation.  相似文献

We develop a new efficient numerical methodology for automated simultaneous registration and intensity correction of images. The approach separates the intensity correction term from the images being registered in a regularized expression. Our formulation is consistent with the existing non-parametric image registration techniques, however, an extra additive intensity correction term is carried throughout. An objective functional is formed for which the corresponding Hessian and Jacobian is computed and employed in a multi-level Gauss–Newton minimization approach. In this paper, our experiments are based on elastic regularization on the transformation and total variation on the intensity correction. Validations on dynamic contrast enhanced MR abdominal images for both real and simulated data verified the efficacy of the model.  相似文献

An important issue in database (DB) systems is responding to different users’ queries in an acceptable time. To do this, we should define different queries based on users’ real needs and we should consider suitable solutions. In this article, we express a new query called ‘boundary query’ which is used for achieving an overall view of a subject in the DB. This query does not return all query answers but it returns boundary values that cover all answers for the related query. In this article, we map a DB environment to a vector space based on necessary attributes. Then we implement the proposed method, and based on the results, we observe that the proposed method's run time is acceptable for huge DBs.  相似文献
