Ba0.60Sr0.40TiO3 (BST) thin films, grown via RF-sputtering and the metalorganic solution deposition (MOSD) techniques, were post-growth annealed
via conventional thermal annealing (CTA) and UV-photon irradiation annealing. With respect to the conventional thermal annealed
films the UV-photon irradiation annealed films possessed improved structural properties and dielectric response. The optimization
of the UV-photon irradiation annealing process parameters (using RF-sputtered BST films) was achieved via a detailed set of
iso-thermal/chronal annealing experiments. The optimized UV-process parameters, applied to MOSD synthesized BST films revealed
further enhanced dielectric response, i.e., 23% reduction in tan δ with sustained tunability of 42%. The improvements in the
material properties of the UV-photon irradiation annealed BST thin films are attributed to stoichiometry and structural changes

Automobile crashes are the leading cause of death in children aged 1–14 years. Many children, however, are not properly restrained in safety seats that reduce serious injury and death. This study used a discrete choice conjoint experiment to study factors influencing the decision to use booster seats. Parents of 1714 children aged 4–9 years from nine Canadian provinces completed choice tasks presenting experimentally varied combinations of 15 4-level booster seat promotion attributes. Latent class analysis yielded three segments of parents. The choices of the Benefit Sensitive segment (50%) were most sensitive to the injury prevention benefits of booster seats. The choices of parents in the Context Sensitive segment (33.5%) were more likely to be influenced by installation complexity, oppositional behavior, and the prospect that their child may be teased for riding in booster seats. Parents in the High Risk segment (16.5%) were younger, less educated, and less knowledgeable about vehicle safety legislation. They anticipated fewer benefits, expected more barriers and were less likely to use booster seats. Simulations suggest that consistent enforcement coupled with advertising focusing on injury prevention and the use of booster seats by other parents would increase adoption. 相似文献

Deviations from the thermally activated behavior due to imperfections in the tunneling barrier are observed. We tested the hypothesis that poor performance on the Piagetian invisible displacement task is related to increased memory requirements. Rhesus monkeys and orangutans received 3 types of problems (invisible, visible, and no transfer problems) each containing a number of steps equivalent to that of standard invisible displacements. If failure to solve invisible displacements was due to increased memory requirements, then the primates should perform at chance level on all 3 problems. However, rhesus monkeys solved visible and no transfer problems, but not invisible transfer problems. Half of the orangutans solved all 3 transfer problems, although their performance on invisible transfer problems was lower than that on the other problems. Understanding a link between sexual harassment and eating disorder symptoms: A mediational analysis.
Using data from 3 samples of working women and men, the present study examines the association between sexual harassment and eating disorder symptoms by studying the processes that may underlie this relationship. The results of structural equation modeling suggest a link between sexual harassment and eating disorder symptoms among women and indicate that this relationship is mediated by psychological distress, self-esteem, and self-blame. Further, sexual harassment was found to predict eating disorder symptoms among women even when experiences of sexual assault were included in the model. No relationship was found between sexual harassment and eating disorder symptoms among men. The theoretical and clinical implications of these results are discussed. BACKGROUND: Oral therapy with phenylalanine ammonia lyase (PAL), naturally encapsulated in plant cells, may provide a potential alternative treatment for hyperphenylalaninemic patients, including those with phenylketonuria. Therefore different sources of plant tissue were investigated for PAL activity. RESULTS: Enzyme activity was highest in grain seedlings, with maximal enzyme activity in 7‐day‐old red spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) seedlings. The PAL activities of leaves and roots/endosperm of wheat seedlings were 11.90 ± 2.64 and 6.48 ± 1.59 µmol h?1 g?1 dry weight respectively. Three PAL‐related polypeptides with molecular weights of 74, 83 and 103 kDa were identified in wheat seedling leaf tissues, while only the 74 kDa polypeptide was detected in root/endosperm tissues. Dehydration was investigated as a method of concentrating PAL in wheat seedlings. Freeze‐drying was found to retain the most PAL activity (>90% recovery on a dry weight basis) compared with air drying and vacuum microwave drying for both leaf and root/endosperm samples. CONCLUSION: This study has led to a better understanding of PAL activity and stability in plant tissues and provides the basis for developing a natural plant preparation as a dietary supplement for the treatment of hyperphenylalaninemia. The development of microstructure and its influence on creep properties have been studied for structures including equiaxed
γ, duplex, and other structures of varying α2 morphology in two Ti-48Al-2Cr-2Nb alloys. Heat treatment at 1125°C have been utilized to produce equiaxed γ microstructures
in alloys with or without Mo additions. The γ→α transformation produces α2 plates with several orientation variants with γ grains during subsequent annealing of the equiaxed γ microstructures below
the α transus. Formation of this α2 morphology results from rapid up-quenching (UQ), and this structure persists through annealing, cooling, and creep testing.
Differences in minimum creep rates for several microstructures, containing varying amounts of multi-or single variant γ/α2 grains are shown to be minimal. The presence of Mo has also resulted in improved creep resistance in equiaxed γ and γ + α2 + B2 structures, as compared to similar microstructures in the Ti-48Al-2Cr-2Nb alloy. Deformation during creep at 760 °C
at stresses between 200 and 400 MPa occurs by a combination of twinning and dislocation glide without recrystallization, resulting
in power-law stress exponents in the range of 6 to 9. Only minimal strain path dependence of the minimum creep rate is detected
in a comparison of creep rates in stress jump, stress drop, and single stress tests.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the association between admission serum concentrations of the actin-scavenger, Gc-globulin, and the subsequent development of multiple organ failure in patients with fulminant hepatic failure. DESIGN: Retrospective study. SETTING: A hepatologic intensive care unit. PATIENTS: Seventy-nine patients with hepatic encephalopathy grade 3 or 4. INTERVENTIONS: None. MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS: Serum admission concentrations of both total and nonactin-complexed (free) Gc-globulin were determined. The development of cardiovascular failure, renal failure, pulmonary failure, intracranial hypertension, and infections were recorded in each patient. Both total and free Gc-globulin values were significantly lower in the patients, compared with normal controls. The Gc-globulin values were significantly reduced in patients who subsequently developed cardiovascular failure (p < .01), intracranial hypertension (p < .001), and infections (p < .001), compared with those patients who did not. No differences were found between patients with and without pulmonary or renal failure. Patients with total Gc-globulin values in the lowest quintile had on average 2.6 organ failures, whereas patients with Gc-globulin concentrations in the highest quintile had 0.9 organ failures. The corresponding figures for the lowest and highest quintiles of free Gc-globulin were 3.0 and 1.1 organ failures, respectively. Both total and free Gc-globulin were inversely correlated to the number of organ failures (p < .005 in both cases). Patients with multiple organ failure (> or = 2 organ failures) had significantly reduced Gc-globulin values compared with patients without multiple organ failure (p < .0001). CONCLUSIONS: In patients with fulminant hepatic failure, the lowest admission Gc-globulin concentrations were associated with the subsequent development of cardiovascular failure, intracranial hypertension, and infections. Lack of Gc-globulin correlated significantly with the development of multiple organ failure and may be pathogenetically involved in this condition. 相似文献
