The combination of desalination technology into concentrating solar power (CSP) plants needs to be considered for the planned installation of CSP plants in arid regions. There are interesting synergies between the two technologies, like the possibility of substituting the condenser of the power cycle for a thermal desalination unit. This paper presents a thermodynamic evaluation of different configurations for coupling parabolic-trough (PT) solar power plants and desalination facilities in a dry location representing the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The integration of a low-temperature multi-effect distillation (LT-MED) plant fed by the steam at the outlet of the turbine replacing the condenser of the power cycle has been simulated and compared with the combination of CSP with a reverse osmosis (RO) plant. Furthermore, an additional novel concept of concentrating solar power and desalination (CSP+D) has been evaluated: a LT-MED powered by the steam obtained from a thermal vapour compressor (TVC) using the exhaust steam of the CSP plant as entrained vapour and steam extracted from the turbine as the motive vapour of the ejector. This new concept (LT-MED-TVC) has been analyzed and compared with the others, evaluating its optimization for the integration into a CSP plant by considering different extractions of the turbine.  相似文献

In order to develop compact absorption refrigeration cycles driven by low heat sources, the simulated performance of a microchannel absorber of 5‐cm length and 9.5 cm3 in volume provided with a porous membrane is presented for 3 different solution‐refrigerant pairs: LiBr‐H2O, LiCl‐H2O, and LiNO3‐NH3. The high absorption rates calculated for the 3 solutions lead to large cooling effect to absorber volume ratios: 625 kW/m3 for the LiNO3‐NH3, 552 kW/m3 for the LiBr‐H2O, and 318 kW/m3 for the LiCl‐H2O solutions given the studied geometry. The performance of a complete absorption system is also analyzed varying the solution concentration, condensation temperature, and desorption temperature. The LiNO3‐NH3 and the LiBr‐H2O solutions provide the largest cooling effects. The LiNO3‐NH3 can work at a lower temperature of the heating source, in comparison with the one needed in a LiBr‐H2O system. The lowest cooling effect and coefficient of performance are found for the LiCl‐H2O solution, but this mixture allows the use of lower temperature heating sources (below 70°C). These results can be used for the selection of the most suitable solution for a given cooling duty, depending on the available heat source and condensation temperature.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This paper quantifies the extent of co-location of innovation and production for industry clusters with varying knowledge intensity. If input-output, knowledge, and skill linkages are interdependent and geographically bounded, then we would expect innovation and production to be co-located in regional clusters. However, theory predicts that the degree of agglomeration benefits associated with co-location may vary across economic activities with different knowledge intensity. Using data from the U.S. Cluster Mapping Project, I develop measures of the co-location of innovation and production for 27 industry clusters, examining patterns across regions and over time (1998–2015) in the United States. I find that there is a significant co-location of innovation and production for many clusters, especially for those with higher knowledge intensity. This paper focuses on the Information Technology and Analytical Instruments cluster and the Automotive cluster to illustrate the co-location measures and the micro-geography of innovation and production.  相似文献

The antioxidant effects of natural estrogens (estrone E1; 17β-estradiol), synthetic estrogens (17α-ethynylestradiol, EE2; mestranol, MES; diethylstilbestrol, DES) and catechle-strogens (2-hydroxyestradiol; 4-hydroxyestradiol 4-OHE2) on lipid peroxidation induced by different means in rat liver microsomes were investigated. The extent of lipid peroxidation was determined by measuring thiobarbituric acid reactive substances. Prooxidants included Fe3+/ADP/reduced NADPH, Fe2+/ascorbate,tert-butyl hydroperoxide (t-BOOH) and 2,2′-azobis (2-amidinopropane) (AAPH). Estrogens and catecholestrogens decreased lipid peroxidation in all four systems tested. In the iron/ascorbate model it was shown that (i)-OHE2 and DES had analogous patterns of inhibition, irrespective of the presence of NADPH or the functional integrity of the microsómes, and (ii) the antioxidant activities of E1, EE2 and MES were dependent on the assay conditions with the activity being markedley higher when estrogen metabolism was favored. When peroxidation was initiated by the peroxyl radical generator AAPH, the inhibitory effects observed were least pronounced. Our data also showed that, in each of the systems, all inhibitors displayed the same order of inhibitory potency with DES and catecholestrogens being the most potent antioxidants under all experimental conditions used. The present results confirm earlier findings and point toward a link between estrogen metabolism and estrogen antioxidant activity. The data also indicate that estrogens and catecholestrogens interact with the peroxidative process at different levels with their interactions with iron or the metal-derived species being the most important modes of inhibition.  相似文献

We report on the synthesis and reactivity of a polymer-supported o-phenylenediamine hydrochloride ligand, PS-PDHC, using macroporous 6% crosslinked polystyrene-divinylbenzene beads. The PS-PDHC ligand was found to be highly selective to AuCl4 ions in strongly acidic solutions in the presence of other precious metal ions, PdCl42−, PtCl42−, RhCl63−, and RuCl52− (selectivity values: 2.5, Au/Pd; 7.5, Au/Pt; 7, Au/Rh; 2.2, Au/Ru) as well as other transition metal ions, Fe 3+, Cr3+, CU2+, Nit+, and Mn2+. The sorption capacity, selectivity, kinetics of removal and recovery, and solution isotherms have been determined for AuCl4 ions in competition with the above-mentioned metal ions. The relative ease of formation of the anionic complex in 0.5 M HCI, AuCl4 was thought to be the primary reason for its selective ability to bind to the PS-PDHC ligand by an anion-exchange mechanism. Therefore, the effect of the HCI concentration on the kinetics of AuCl4 ion removal from solution was also investigated to clearly show that raising the pH from 0 to 5 caused a dramatic decrease in rate. The AuCl4 ion can be recovered quantitatively from the PS-PDHC beads using a 5% thiourea solution in 0.1 M HCl, allowing the polymer-supported ligand to be reused.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to investigate the environmental dispersal of Cryptosporidium spp. and Giardia duodenalis in two distinct areas (coastal and inland) in Galicia (NW Spain). Faecal samples were collected from healthy asymptomatic domestic (cows and sheep) and wild animals (deer and wild boars) in the selected areas. In each of the selected areas, samples of untreated water (influent) and of treated water (final effluent) were collected from each of the 12 drinking water treatments plants (DWTPs) and 12 wastewater treatment plants (WTPs) under study. Analysis of a single sample from each of the 635 (coastal) and 851 (inland) domestic and wild animals selected at random revealed that the prevalences of cryptosporidiosis and giardiosis in coastal area were 9.2% and 15.9% respectively, and in inland area, 13.7% and 26.7% respectively. In the coastal area, Cryptosporidium spp. oocysts were detected in influent and effluent samples from 2/12 (16.6%) DWTPs and 8/12 (66.6%) WTPs, while G. duodenalis cysts were detected in influent and effluent samples from 3/12 (25.0%) DWTPs and 12/12 (100%) WTPs. The concentrations were notably higher in WTPs; the mean parasite concentrations in the final treated effluent were 10 oocysts per litre and 137.8 cysts per litre for Cryptosporidium and Giardia, respectively. The mean concentration of G. duodenalis cysts per litre was significantly higher (P < 0.05) than the mean concentration of Cryptosporidium spp. oocysts per litre in both the influent and the effluent samples from all the treatment plants. In the coastal area, C. parvum, C. hominis and G. duodenalis assemblages A (I and II) and E were most repeatedly detected. In the inland area, C. parvum, C. andersoni and G. duodenalis assemblages A (I and II), B and E were most frequently identified.  相似文献

Paralytic shellfish poisoning is a toxic syndrome described in humans following the ingestion of seafood contaminated with saxitoxin and/or its derivatives. The presence of these toxins in shellfish is considered an important health threat and their levels in seafood destined to human consumption are regulated in many countries, as well as the levels of other chemically unrelated toxins. We studied the feasibility of immunodetection of saxitoxin and its analogs using a solid-phase microsphere assay coupled to flow cytometry detection in a Luminex 200 system. The technique consists of a competition assay where the toxins in solution compete with bead-bound saxitoxin for binding to an antigonyautoxin 2/3 monoclonal antibody (GT-13A). The assay allowed the detection of saxitoxin both in buffer and mussel extracts in the range of 2.2-19.7 ng/mL (IC(20)-IC(80)). Moreover, the assay cross-reactivity with other toxins of the group is similar to previously published immunoassays, with adequate detection of most analogs except N-1 hydroxy analogs. The recovery rate of the assay for saxitoxin was close to 100%. This microsphere-based immunoassay is suitable to be used as a screening method, detecting saxitoxin from 260 to 2360 μg/kg. This microsphere/flow cytometry system provided similar sensitivities to previously published immunoassays and provides a solid background for the development of easy, flexible multiplexing of toxin detection in one sample.  相似文献
