Characterization of a water-based paint for corrosion protection   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Corrosion of steel rebars in reinforced concrete is one of the major problems in the construction industry. Carbonation reactions of concrete with carbon dioxide and, mainly, the chloride salts action are the main causes responsible for concrete degradation. Protective coatings help to improve the durability of concrete structures by acting as a physical barrier against the corrosion agents. Waterborne paints are usually used for concrete protection rather than solvent-based paints since they are less pollutant. The aim of this work is to investigate the influence of the pore size and porosity on the permeability of the paints films toward sodium chloride. Three characterization methods from membrane science were implemented to characterize paint coatings. The time-lag method was used to determine the permeability toward the sodium chloride and toward helium and argon, these for approximately 100% relative humidity. From the seven waterborne paints formulated, only one was found to be suitable for surface protection of reinforced concrete, since its permeability toward NaCl was smaller than 10−14 m2 s−1, the threshold value required by National Laboratory of Civil Engineering (LNEC) in Portugal. For the formulated paints, it was observed that the average pore size correlates well with the permeability toward sodium chloride. This is an important result since obtaining the permeability toward sodium chloride of corrosion protective paints is very time consuming, while the average pore size can be obtained in a much shorter time.  相似文献

The continuous monitoring of physical, chemical and biological parameters in shrimp culture is an important activity for detecting potential crisis that can be harmful for the organisms. Water quality can be assessed through toxicological tests evaluated directly from water quality parameters involved in the ecosystem; these tests provide an indicator about the water quality. The aim of this study is to develop a fuzzy inference system based on a reasoning process, which involves aquaculture criteria established by official organizations and researchers for assessing water quality by analyzing the main factors that affect a shrimp ecosystem. We propose to organize the water quality parameters in groups according to their importance; these groups are defined as daily, weekly and by request monitoring. Additionally, we introduce an analytic hierarchy process to define priorities for more critical water quality parameters and groups. The proposed system analyzes the most important parameters in shrimp culture, detects potential negative situations and provides a new water quality index (WQI), which describes the general status of the water quality as excellent, good, regular and poor. The Canadian water quality and other well-known hydrological indices are used to compare the water quality parameters of the shrimp water farm. Results show that WQI index has a better performance than other indices giving a more accurate assessment because the proposed fuzzy inference system integrates all environmental behaviors giving as result a complete score. This fuzzy inference system emerges as an appropriated tool for assessing site performance, providing assistance to improve production through contingency actions in polluted ponds.  相似文献

This work investigates the effect of sodium, potassium, and calcium chloride salts on the performance of Spanish green table olive fermentation using a simple centroid mixture design. The presence of calcium chloride hindered the diffusion of all sugars and delayed the period required to reach their respective maximum concentrations in brines. Such effects can prevent tumultuous processes and gas pocket spoilage. Acetic acid was present at low concentrations in all treatments but was not generated during fermentation. The production rate of lactic acid was either decreased or delayed by the presence of calcium chloride but adequate final conditions were always reached. The chemometric analysis classified treatments into groups according to the presence of calcium chloride and disclosed a stimulating effect of potassium on lactic acid production. Therefore, these techniques can be a useful tool to investigate olive fermentation performance. According to the results, acceptable Spanish green table olives can be produced using salt mixtures, with the subsequent reduced sodium content in the final products. The results obtained in this study could also be of interest for other fermented vegetables.  相似文献

Bioavailability of total arsenic, toxic (arsenite, As(III); and arsenate, As(V)), and non-toxic (monomethylarsonic acid, MA; dimethylarsonic acid, DMA; arsenobetaine, AB; and arsenocholine, AC) arsenic species has been assessed in different raw seafood samples (white fish, cold water fish and molluscs) by using an in vitro model that combines simulated gastric and intestinal digestion/dialysis methods. Correlations between arsenic species bioavailability and seafood nutrient contents (fat and protein) have also been established. Total arsenic content in seafood samples, and dialyzable and non-dialyzable fractions, were analyzed by inductively coupled plasma – mass spectrometry (ICP–MS) after a microwave-assisted acid digestion treatment. The determination of the different arsenic species concentrations in the samples (after an optimised matrix solid phase dispersion (MSPD) approach) and in the dialyzable fraction was done by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) coupled to ICP-MS as a selective detector. Accuracy of the procedure (total arsenic determination) was assessed by analyzing DORM-2 and BCR-627 certified reference materials. The accuracy of the in vitro procedure was established through a mass-balance study. After statistical evaluation (95% confidence interval), good accuracy of the whole in vitro process, for total arsenic and for arsenic speciation, was observed. High dialyzability percentages for total arsenic and for arsenic species were found (i.e. from 84.6 ± 1.7% to 106 ± 2.6%). Bioavailability of arsenic exhibits a negative correlation with the fat content of the seafood. However, no correlation was observed between the bioavailable fraction of total arsenic and arsenic species and the protein content of the seafood studied.  相似文献

In this study a simple, rapid, and efficient method has been developed for the determination of six sulfonylurea herbicides (SUHs): triasulfuron, metsulfuron-methyl, chlorsulfuron, flazasulfuron, chlorimuron-ethyl, and primisulfuron-methyl in commercial grape and apple juice samples, using dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction coupled with capillary high-performance liquid chromatography with diode array detection. Various parameters that influence the extraction efficiency, such as the type and volume of extraction and disperser solvents, sample pH, and salt addition, were investigated and optimized. Under the optimum conditions, limits of detection and quantification of the method were in the ranges of 2–9 and 8–29 μg L?1, respectively, lower than the maximum residue limits set by the European Union for the raw fruits, such as grape and apple. The intra- and inter-day relative standard deviations varied from 1.0 to 8.2 and 1.8 to 9.8 %, respectively, with recoveries between 72.0 and 109.5 % for commercial grape (both white and red) and apple juice samples, showing satisfactory accuracy for the determination of SUHs in fruit juices.  相似文献

The objectives of this research were to study the effect of the addition of lyophilised kefir milk to premixes for household production of bread and evaluate the quality attributes of them. Four lyophilised samples were obtained from the followings: skim milk, acidified skim milk, fermented skim milk and neutralised fermented skim milk. Breads were prepared with commercial wheat flour, lyophilised milk samples and yeast through a straight dough process. Quality was assessed through loaf volume, crumb porosity and moisture, crumb texture and crust colour. Changes in texture and starch recrystallisation by X‐ray diffractometry were determined after 1 and 3 days of storage at room temperature. Breads with acidified milks showed the highest specific volumes and crumbs with the best texture properties. Crystallinity in bread with fermented milks was higher than for skim milk sample. This would indicate that there would be a certain effect of the type of milk processing on the promotion of starch retrogradation.  相似文献

A process to recover residues of crosslinked polyolefin foams is described in this paper. Low‐density foam scraps coming from discarded products or cuts from secondary manufacturing processes are heated and pressed to obtain a new material. The main target to reach with the used recovering process was to keep the density of the recycled specimens as low as possible, and similar to that of the starting products. The structure and properties of both recovered and virgin commercial materials with similar densities have been analyzed. It has been found that due to the recovering process cell size slightly decreased and at the same time the cells become orientated. Mechanical properties of recovered foams were lower than those of commercial products, even though thermal conductivity remained in the range of the values presented by virgin products, and recovered products were better sound absorbers than virgin foams. It is concluded that due to its low density and good balance of properties the recovered materials can substitute virgin materials in applications in which the key properties are excellent thermal insulation, good acoustic absorption, and medium compressive strength. Hyperaemia is an excess of blood in a tissue that causes the appearance of an unusual red hue in the affected area. It is a common occurrence in the bulbar conjunctiva, where it can be related to multiple pathologies, such as conjunctivitis or dry eye syndrome. Specialists grade hyperaemia by means of a tedious, subjective, non-repeatable and time-consuming process. These drawbacks can be solved with the automatisation of the process by means of image processing techniques. The automatic segmentation of the conjunctiva is an important part of the process, as it ensures the absence of noise in posterior stages of the methodology. However, there are several issues of illumination and focus in the input videos that difficult the process. In this work, several segmentation algorithms are proposed and compared in order to obtain an accurate location of the bulbar conjunctiva.  相似文献
