The effect of growth conditions and catalyst lifetime on the supergrowth of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) through a water assisted chemical vapor deposition has been investigated. The reasons behind the observed sudden termination of the CNT growth were explored. A proper amount of water was found to improve the activity of the catalyst and enhance the growth rate of CNTs. However, the introduction of water did not extend the catalyst lifetime leading to unavoidable termination of the CNT growth. Further experiments demonstrated that in addition to catalyzing the CNT growth, catalyst particles can also decompose/etch the C sp2/sp3 bonds including those in the CNTs. The existing termination mechanism for the CNT growth fails to explain this. We therefore propose a model based on the catalyst phase transformation using the Johnson–Mehl–Avrami–Kolmogorov theory to predict the growth rate and termination of the CNT growth. 相似文献

The crystallization of ZnO microrods by hydrothermal treatment of a suspension formed from reaction of zinc acetate and sodium hydroxide has been examined using scanning and transmission electron microscopy. Polycrystalline hexagonal ZnO microrods first appeared after 0.5 h reaction time at 120°C. These early stage rods were composed of stacks of hexagonal layers, each ~50 nm in thickness containing closely aligned assemblies of nanocrystallites <20 nm in size. Further growth of the microrods involved columns of nanoparticles extending from the basal layers of the preformed hexagonal stacks. Integrated lead zirconate titanate thin films deposited on Pt/Ti/SiO2 /Si substrates using a novel triol-based route were characterized using X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. Crack-free single-layer PZT films of up to 200 nm thick were prepared by triol-based sol–gel processing onto Pt/Ti/SiO2 /Si substrates. Films ∼75 nm thick exhibited a microstructure free of pores and second phase. As film thickness increased, film texture changed from {100} to {111} perovskite. Essentially, single-phase multilayer films could be prepared by the deposition and pyrolysis of several 75 nm layers, followed by a single crystallization step. The influence of heat-treatment schedule on the microstructure and orientation of the multilayer films is discussed. Comparison has been made between multilayer films prepared using the triol-based sol and an inverted mixing order/acetic acid-based sol. 相似文献

Pneumolysin and proaerolysin are bacterial toxins that form pores in host
cells by oligomerization. We propose that they may have similar structures
despite a poor sequence identity. The crystal structure of proaerolysin
reveals a protein composed of four domains, arranged in the shape of an
elongated comma. Electron microscopy of the pneumolysin monomer shows a
similar arrangement of domains. The sequence of pneumolysin recognizes the
template of proaerolysin from a library of protein folds. A
three-dimensional model of pneumolysin has been constructed by the
comparative approach using the structure of proaerolysin. This model,
together with results on the activity of site- specific mutants and the
positions of antigenic sites, has been used to propose functional roles of
individual domains.

(1?x)Na0.47K0.47Li0.06NbO3 (NKLN)–xAgSbO3 lead-free piezoelectric ceramics were prepared using a reaction sintering method. The effects of AgSbO3 doping on the structural and electrical properties of NKLN ceramics sintered at 1000–1040 °C were studied. The dopant affected densification, phase content, sintering temperature, microstructure and electrical properties. Variations in the relative intensity of X-ray diffraction peaks were consistent with Ag+ and Sb5+ ions substituting on the perovskite lattice to produce a change in the proportions of co-existing tetragonal and orthorhombic phases. Grain growth during secondary re-crystallization was also affected. The temperature of the orthorhombic–tetragonal (O–T) phase transition and the Curie temperature (TC) decreased as a result of AgSbO3 modifications. The dielectric and piezoelectric properties are enhanced for the composition near the orthorhombic–tetragonal polymorphotropic phase boundary. The 0.92Na0.47K0.47Li0.06NbO3–0.08AgSbO3 ceramics exhibited optimum electrical properties (d33=252 pC/N, εr=1450, tan δ=0.02, and TC=280 °C). These results reveal that (1?x)Na0.47K0.47Li0.06NbO3–xAgSbO3 ceramics are promising materials for lead-free piezoelectric application. 相似文献

Lead-free piezoelectric ceramics in the system 0.95Na0.5 K0.5 NbO3 –0.05LiTaO3 were modified with ≤1 mol% MnO. Maximum densities occurred at a sintering temperature of 1050°C. Characteristic changes in the relative intensity of X-ray diffraction peaks were consistent with Mn ions substituting on the perovskite lattice to produce a change from orthorhombic to a mixture of tetragonal and orthorhombic phases. Grain growth during secondary recrystallization was also affected, leading to increased grain sizes. The dynamic model developed by Ali and Rohani (1997) to describe the transient behavior of a fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) unit is modified (i) to incorporate the effect of volumetric expansion of the feed and product gases flowing in the riser reactor (ii) to consider the enhancement of mass and heat transfer coefficients due to high turbulence in the regenerator and (iii) to model the reactor and stripper as a continuous stirred tank. Classification of radar images based on the information provided by individual pixels cannot generally produce satisfactory results due to speckle. The classification based on area analysis is therefore expected to be more accurate, as a uniform area, which usually consists of multipixels, provides reliable measurement statistics and texture characteristics. However, the area analysis requires partitions of uniform areas to be performed first. In this paper, an approach to the classification of radar images is developed based on two steps. First an image is partitioned into uniform areas (segments), and then these segments are classified. Both segmentation and classification are achieved by using the Gaussian Markov random field model. Powders of composition Ba0.65 Sr0.35 TiO3 were prepared from catecholate precursor phases, BaTi(C6 H4 O2 )3 and SrTi (C6 H4 O2 )3 . The physical and chemical properties of the base powders, and those doped with 0.2 wt% manganese, are reported in detail. The dimensions of the primary particles in the starting powders were of the order of 20–50 nm, but the occurrence of abnormal grain growth during sintering promoted grain sizes in the ceramic of up to ∼100 μm. In some microstructures, coarse grains coexisted with a ∼1-μm fraction to produce a characteristic bimodal grain size distribution. By contrast, under comparable sintering conditions, namely 1350° or 1400°C for 1 h, grain growth in Mn-doped samples was suppressed, leading to uniform microstructures with a grain size of only a few micrometers. The pellet densities were nevertheless similar, 97% of theoretical in both doped and undoped samples. No significant difference was observed in the dielectric permittivity of the two compositions: the peak relative permittivity occurred at ∼20°C, with a maximum value of ∼22 000. 相似文献
