Aphrons are surfactant‐stabilized microbubbles with thick soapy shells. Colloidal gas aphrons (CGA) with an average diameter of 50 μm have some unique properties: a high interfacial area due to their small size, a thick soapy shell and, above all, high stability compared to conventional foams. Various factors that can influence the performance of CGA dispersion, such as the type and concentration of surfactant, mixing time and processing parameters, have already been extensively studied. However, although CGA applications in various fields continue to advance, the influence of the disk diameter and baffle position of the aphron generator on the performance of CGAs has not been well studied. In this experimental work, the influences of the spinning disk diameter and baffle position inside the aphron generator have been investigated. Analyzing the drainage curve of various experimental runs revealed that the disk diameter and baffle position might have a positive impact on the stability of CGA dispersion particularly when the generation time or surfactant concentration is low. The experimental findings have been supported by other techniques such as half‐life time and a new stability index, T0.1, the time elapsed when the drained liquid from CGA dispersion reaches ten percent of its final height. 相似文献

The potential of two zygomycetes fungi, Mucor indicus and Rhizopus oryzae, in assimilating citrus waste free sugars (CWFS) and producing fungal chitosan, oil, and protein as well as ethanol was investigated. Extraction of free sugars from citrus waste can reduce its environmental impact by decreasing the possibility of wild microorganisms growth and formation of bad odors, a typical problem facing the citrus industries. A total sugar concentration of 25.1 g/L was obtained by water extraction of citrus waste at room temperature, used for fungal cultivation in shake flasks and airlift bioreactor with no additional nutrients. In shake flasks cultivations, the fungi were only able to assimilate glucose, while fructose remained almost intact. In contrast, the cultivation of M. indicus and R. oryzae in the four-liter airlift bioreactor resulted in the consumption of almost all sugars and production of 250 and 280 g fungal biomass per kg of consumed sugar, respectively. These biomasses correspondingly contained 40% and 51% protein and 9.8% and 4.4% oil. Furthermore, the fungal cell walls, obtained after removing the alkali soluble fraction of the fungi, contained 0.61 and 0.69 g chitin and chitosan per g of cell wall for M. indicus and R. oryzae, respectively. Moreover, the maximum ethanol yield of 36% and 18% was obtained from M. indicus and R. oryzae, respectively. Furthermore, that M. indicus grew as clump mycelia in the airlift bioreactor, while R. oryzae formed spherical suspended pellets, is a promising feature towards industrialization of the process. 相似文献

Alkylphenols(APs), considered as xenoestrogenic compounds, mainly exist as 4-nonylphenol(4-NP) and 4-tertoctylphenol(4-t-OP) in environments. The high stability and accumulation of APs in aquatic systems have caused endocrine disruption. In this study we measured APs in the wastewater influent and effluent samples, from the urban, rural, livestock, commercial and hospital wastewater treatment plants(WWTPs) in Iran. Dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction(DLLME) combined with gas chromatography–mass spectrometry(GC–MS) was used for the extraction and determination of 4-NP and 4-t-OP. In these treatment plants, various processes such as activated sludge, aerated lagoon, moving bed biofilm reactor and activated sludge along with wetland were applied. The highest concentration of 4-NP and 4-t-OP was observed in commercial and livestock sewages. The activated sludge along with wetland and then the MBBR process showed the highest removal rates of pollutants. The rates of biodegradability and accumulation in sludge were determined and also the specific adsorption coefficient Kdand the organic carbon–water partition coefficient kOCof the sludge for APs were calculated. 相似文献

The explosive power or strength of an energetic material shows its capacity for doing useful work. This work reviews recent developments for prediction of power of energetic compounds. A new user‐friendly computer code is also introduced to predict the relative power of a desired energetic compound as compared to 2,4,6‐trinitrotoluene (TNT). It is based on the best available methods, which can be used for different types of energetic compounds including nitroaromatics, nitroaliphatics, nitramines, and nitrate esters. The TiO2 hollow spheres were synthesized using a green, cheap, and easy process, in which carbonaceous spheres were chosen as the removable template. The prepared materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), Atomic force microscopy (AFM), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) analysis. According to the results, the obtained mesoporous TiO2 hollow spheres demonstrated an external diameters less than 200?nm with shell thickness around 40?nm. The antibacterial activities of the TiO2 hollow spheres were evaluated against gram-positive (Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus) and gram-negative (Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa). No antibacterial activity was found for TiO2 hollow spheres in the used concentrations. TiO2 hollow spheres were loaded with gentamycin as a selected antibiotic to magnify their benefits in biomedical applications. TiO2 hollow spheres exhibited good antibiotic carrier activity for the direct delivery of gentamicin, which was attributed to interaction between gentamicin and surface due to their larger specific surface area, more abundant porous structure, and their spherical morphology. The application of TiO2 hollow spheres as gentamicin carrier undoubtedly opens an avenue to use hollow sphere materials in other drug delivery applications. 相似文献

Many studies have been conducted to study the various polymorphs and morphologies of calcium carbonate crystals in nature and living organisms. In this experimental work, a novel method has been employed to crystallize calcium carbonate by using colloidal gas aphron dispersion. The polymorph and morphology of prepared particles were investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier transform infrared spectrometry techniques. SEM and XRD analyses demonstrated that the morphology of synthesized CaCO3 can be changed from spherical (vaterite phase) to novel rod and plate-like shapes (mixture of vaterite and calcite phases) with changes in the surfactant concentration. The quantitative examination results of different calcium carbonate polymorph orientations showed that the precursor concentrations had no significant effect on the orientation of calcite phase, but rather they affected the orientation development of vaterite phase at a higher surfactant concentration. 相似文献

Hybrid organic–inorganic materials made from sol–gel precursors can be used as anticorrosion barriers on metal substrates. The modification of epoxy resins with silicones is an interesting approach toward the synthesis of hybrid materials that combine the advantages offered by epoxy resins with those of silicones. In this study, novel hybrid epoxy‐silicon materials were synthesized using sol–gel chemistry and subsequently functionalized with 4,4′‐methylenebis(phenyl isocyanate), incorporating urethane functionality into the final polymer. The study screened five different epoxide precursors for use in the synthesis of the new hybrid materials and optimizing their anticorrosion properties. Spectral characterization confirms the proposed chemical structures of the newly synthesized polymers. The newly developed polymers were painted on mild steel panels, thermally cured, and their thermal, surface morphological, adhesion, and anticorrosion properties were fully characterized. The new coatings were found to have excellent thermal stability and adherence properties to steel surface. The results of corrosion testing on coated steel panels following long‐term immersion in a 3.5 wt % aqueous NaCl medium revealed that the polymer prepared using the epoxide precursor bisphenol A diglycidyl ether provided the best anticorrosion protection property among the synthesized polymers. This could be attributed to the excellent integrity and crosslink density properties in addition to the lack of microdefects in the surface of this coated sample as confirmed by scanning electron microscopy analyses. In this research work, the volumetric overall mass transfer coefficient based on continuous-phase (Koca) and axial dispersion coefficients of phases (Ec, Ed) in a pilot Pulsed Packed Liquid Extraction Column (PPLEC) have been studied using plug flow model (PFM) and axial dispersion model (ADM). Experiments have been carried out using standard systems of water/acetone/toluene and water/acetone/n-butyl–acetate. Values of Koca evaluated by ADM are greater than those of PFM by about 20% indicating that the axial mixing lowers the performance of PPLEC. It was found that the drop-size distribution is the main cause of the axial mixing in PPLEC. Increase in dispersed phase flow rate (Qd), increases all Koca, Ed and Ec and the minimum values of both Ed and Ec and the maximum values of Koca are in pulse intensity ranges of 0.8–1 cm/s. Finally, three empirical correlations are proposed for the prediction of these parameters which are in good agreement with the experimental data. 相似文献
