Up to now, commercially available alumina ceramics were claimed to have strength between 400 and 550 MPa. However, our study shows strength ~ 2 times higher for commercially available alumina than commonly believed. The average and characteristic strength, measured on 31 pure alumina ceramic discs by ball on three balls (B3B) test, were 1205 ± 93 MPa and 1257 MPa, respectively, with a Weibull modulus of m = 11.8. Tested specimens were in form of discs with a diameter of 5 mm and thickness 0.5 mm. The grain size distribution of the alumina is bimodal with an average grain size of ~ 850 nm measured at the surface. The fracture reveals a mixed transgranular / intergranular failure mode. To avoid incorporation of additional flaws, the discs were tested as sintered. The characteristic flexural strength measured in B3B was recalculated according to Weibull theory for standard 4-point bending bars of size 3 × 4 × 45 mm as bend 856 MPa. The measured strength of nearly 900 MPa shows the potential of strength for high purity alumina ceramics.  相似文献

The sorption of Tartrazine, Allura Red, Sunset Yellow and Indigo Carmine from aqueous solutions onto the strongly basic anion-exchanger (Lewatit MonoPlus M-600) of dimethylethanolamine functional groups and styrene–divinylbenzene matrix was investigated. The experimental data obtained at 50, 100, 200, 300 and 500 mg/dm3 initial concentrations at 20 °C were applied to the pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order and Weber–Morris kinetic models. The calculated sorption capacities (q1,cal) and the rate constant of the first-order adsorption (k1) were determined. The pseudo-second order kinetic constants (k2) and capacities (q2,cal) were calculated from the plots of t/qt vs. t, 1/qt vs. 1/t, 1/t vs. 1/qt, qt/t vs. qt and 1/q2 − qt vs. t for type 1, type 2, type 3, type 4 and type 5 of the pseudo-second order expression, respectively.  相似文献

The objective of the work was to elucidate the chemical composition of fractions of oil extracts obtained during the supercritical extraction on a semi‐industrial scale from strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa Duch.), chokeberry [Aronia melanocarpa (Michx.)], and raspberry (Rubus idaeus L.) seeds from industrial press cake. The oil extracts differed in terms of their content of bioactive components: carotenoids, tocopherols, chlorophylls, and fatty acids. Raspberry seed oil was the richest source of tocopherols (620.1–2166.7 mg kg?1) and α‐linolenic acid (above 37%). Chokeberry seed oil had the highest content of linoleic acid (above 70%), and α‐tocopherol (166.0–1104.8 mg kg?1). Strawberry oil was characterized by the highest content of chlorophylls and α‐linolenic acid (above 30%). It was showed that the oil fraction collected at the beginning of extraction is characterized by a high acid value, which requires purification steps to be used for food purposes.

Practical applications

Strawberry, raspberry, and chokeberry by‐products left over from the production of concentrated juice are a valuable source of oils rich in n‐3 and n‐6 polyunsaturated fatty acids, tocopherols, and carotenoids. The research showed that the fractionation of extracts in the course of supercritical extraction leads to oils with varying amounts of different bioactive compounds, and thus to products with potentially wide applications. Seeds oils have high potential utility as a source of unconventional oil for cosmetic and pharmaceutical sectors and biodiesel. Their targeted utilization may be exploited for economic, environmental and health benefits.  相似文献

Qualitative and quantitative PCR assays were developed for detection of commercialised Bt cotton events, i.e. MON531, MON15985 and other Bt crops, which are under different stages of field trials in India, i.e. Bt brinjal, Bt rice, Bt cauliflower, Bt potato and Bt okra. Multiplex PCR assays simultaneously detecting specific cry1Ac, cry1Ab, cry2Ab genes, Cauliflower Mosaic Virus 35S promoter, nptII marker gene along with species- or taxon-specific endogenous gene in these Bt crops have been developed. The quantitative real-time PCR assays were also reported for cry1Ac gene using designed primers and TaqMan probe. The sensitivity of developed assays for detection of specific transgene was established up to 0.01%. The analytical methods developed in the present report will be of immense use for qualitative screening and detection of Bt crops along with the quantitative analysis of inserted cry1Ac gene to meet the threshold level for regulatory compliance.  相似文献

Tendinopathies are painful, disabling conditions that afflict 25% of the adult human population. Filling an unmet need for realistic large-animal models, we here present an ovine model of tendon injury for the comparative study of adult scarring repair and fetal regeneration. Complete regeneration of the fetal tendon within 28 days is demonstrated, while adult tendon defects remained macroscopically and histologically evident five months post-injury. In addition to a comprehensive histological assessment, proteome analyses of secretomes were performed. Confirming histological data, a specific and pronounced inflammation accompanied by activation of neutrophils in adult tendon defects was observed, corroborated by the significant up-regulation of pro-inflammatory factors, neutrophil attracting chemokines, the release of potentially tissue-damaging antimicrobial and extracellular matrix-degrading enzymes, and a response to oxidative stress. In contrast, secreted proteins of injured fetal tendons included proteins initiating the resolution of inflammation or promoting functional extracellular matrix production. These results demonstrate the power and relevance of our novel ovine fetal tendon regeneration model, which thus promises to accelerate research in the field. First insights from the model already support our molecular understanding of successful fetal tendon healing processes and may guide improved therapeutic strategies.  相似文献

Whilst the survival rates of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) have increased remarkably over the last decades, the therapy resistance and toxicity are still the major causes of treatment failure. It was shown that overexpression of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) promotes proliferation and chemoresistance of cancer cells. In humans, the HO-1 gene (HMOX1) expression is modulated by two polymorphisms in the promoter region: (GT)n-length polymorphism and single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) A(−413)T, with short GT repeat sequences and 413-A variants linked to an increased HO-1 inducibility. We found that the short alleles are significantly more frequent in ALL patients in comparison to the control group, and that their presence may be associated with a higher risk of treatment failure, reflecting the role of HO-1 in chemoresistance. We also observed that the presence of short alleles may predispose to develop chemotherapy-induced neutropenia. In case of SNP, the 413-T variant co-segregated with short or long alleles, while 413-A almost selectively co-segregated with long alleles, hence it is not possible to determine if SNPs are actually of phenotypic significance. Our results suggest that HO-1 can be a potential target to overcome the treatment failure in ALL patients.  相似文献

This introduces an organic–inorganic thermosetting hybrid resin system based on unsaturated polyester and polysilazanes. It shows the chemical modification of unsaturated polyester structures by end capping to enable the combination of both components. In general, halogen‐free unsaturated polyesters are not fire‐retardant and have to be equipped with additives. Fillers and intumescent additives are preponderantly used in today's fire‐retardant formulations. In contrast to these fire‐retardants, polysilazanes act as ceramizing agents. Polysilazanes are suitable fire‐retardants for resin transfer molding due to their low viscosity. Both burning behavior and glass transition temperature (Tg) are investigated as important application properties. In contrast to state‐of‐the‐art fire‐retardant formulations polysilazane‐based thermosetting hybrid resins burn with high intensity and fast extinction. Therefore, total heat and smoke emission is decreased. Artificial catalytic synthesis of ammonia has become a hot research frontier in recent years.It is regarded as a promising approach that may replace the Haber-Bosch process and reduce global carbon dioxide emission.However,it is extremely difficult for the cleavage of nitrogen molecules under ambient con-ditions.Thus the ammonia yield rate is still low and the study is still limited in lab scale.If nitrites or nitrates are used as nitrogen sources,rather than nitrogen gas,the catalytic efficiency can be signifi-cantly improved,and the residual nitrate and nitrite contaminations in water systems can be efficiently eliminated and converted to energy sources at the same time.It is an emerging alternative for artificial ammonia synthesis,while there is not enough focus on the reduction of nitrate and nitrite.Herein,we systematically compared the differences between the reduction of nitrogen and nitrates,as well as listed the challenges in this area.The total conversion rate and energy efficiency of catalytic nitrate reduction are much higher than nitrogen gas reduction due to the much higher solubility and better converting pathway,which might be further enhanced by employing catalysts improvement strategies.Further,we also proposed suitable materials as well as a few future researches needs that may help boost the development of artificial ammonia synthesis using nitrate.  相似文献

Recently, we identified 6 genomic loci affecting daughter yield deviations (DYD) for somatic cell score (SCS) in a genome-wide association study (GWAS) performed with German Holstein bulls. In the current study, we tested if these loci were associated with SCS in cows using their own performance data. The study was performed with 1,412 German Holstein cows, of which 483 were daughters of 71 bulls that had been used in the GWAS. We tested 10 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) representing 6 genomic regions that were associated with DYD for SCS in bulls. All tested SNP were significant in cows. Seven of them, located on Bos taurus autosomes (BTA) 6, 13, and 19, had the same direction of effect as those previously reported in the bull population. The most significant associations were detected on BTA6 and BTA19, accounting for 1.8% of the total genetic variance. The major allele of the 2 SNP on BTA6 and the minor allele of the 2 SNP on BTA19 were favorable for lower SCS. The differences between the homozygous genotype classes were up to 15,000 cells/mL. The verification of SNP associated with SCS in this study provides further evidence for the functional role of the linked genomic regions for immune response and contributes to identification of causative mutations. In particular, SNP with minor frequency of the favorable allele possess high potential to reduce SCS in German Holstein cattle by selection.  相似文献
