Water quality modelling facilitates our better understanding of the processes taking place in a lake system, and conservation plans to address them. The water quality analysis simulation programme (WASP) was used in this study to predict daily variations in water quality parameters, namely dissolved oxygen, nitrate, phosphate and chlorophyll‐a and biochemical oxygen demand concentrations in a tropical lake system. The lake was divided into eight segments with the respective morphological, environmental and flow details being model inputs. The monthly concentration of each water quality parameter also comprised model input. The model output was daily spatiotemporal variation in these parameters over a period of 476 days. This study also indicated that the occurrence of precipitation plays a major role in defining the water quality of a tropical lake. The heavy precipitation after a long gap, especially during the summer season, results in a large quantity of organic matter entering the lake through drains, thereby increasing the organic matter and phosphate in the water body, and subsequently resulting in high chlorophyll‐a concentrations in the lake. A reduced chlorophyll‐a concentration was observed during the heavy rains. The water quality fluctuations are more pronounced with precipitation, especially where polluted drains enter the lake. An improved water quality can be observed downstream, including increased dissolved oxygen and nitrate concentrations. Improved water quality was observed during the postmonsoon period, with increased salinity and dissolved oxygen concentrations, a finding that confirms generalized and specific conclusions can be achieved with the use of the WASP model. 相似文献

This paper defines a highly scalable interval index structure called the Temporal Bin tree (TB-tree) that can be embedded
in any resource planning application whose algorithms require efficiently estimating either the time that a resource will
be available to process a specific task of known length or the net availability of a resource during a specified period of
time. It is specifically engineered to meet the real-time response and space efficiency requirements of large-scale resource
planning applications that are required for mass customization. Basically, the TB-tree is a binary tree structure that represents
availability of a resource across a planning horizon. Representing intervals of availability hierarchically using a tree structure
increases the efficiency of search for resource availability when the discretization of time is fine-grained or the planning
horizon is long. The tree forms a backbone structure that does not require disruptive rebalancing during update operations,
which would mitigate the ability of the tree to respond to queries in real time. Its specific implementation allows for random
access at any level of the tree to further improve scalability. An application of planning to real-time promising of order
due dates for custom built products provides the context for empirical evaluation. Results of analytical evaluations and simulation
experiments clearly demonstrate the scalability of the TB-tree relative to existing index structures in terms of both time

Recently, the fundamental problem with Hybrid Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (H-MANETs) is to find a suitable and secure way of balancing the load through Internet gateways. Moreover, the selection of the gateway and overload of the network results in packet loss and Delay (DL). For optimal performance, it is important to load balance between different gateways. As a result, a stable load balancing procedure is implemented, which selects gateways based on Fuzzy Logic (FL) and increases the efficiency of the network. In this case, since gateways are selected based on the number of nodes, the Energy Consumption (EC) was high. This paper presents a novel Node Quality-based Clustering Algorithm (NQCA) based on Fuzzy-Genetic for Cluster Head and Gateway Selection (FGCHGS). This algorithm combines NQCA with the Improved Weighted Clustering Algorithm (IWCA). The NQCA algorithm divides the network into clusters based upon node priority, transmission range, and neighbour fidelity. Tracking in a Dense Crowd Using Multiple Cameras 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Tracking people in a dense crowd is a challenging problem for a single camera tracker due to occlusions and extensive motion that make human segmentation difficult. In this paper we suggest a method for simultaneously tracking all the people in a densely crowded scene using a set of cameras with overlapping fields of view. To overcome occlusions, the cameras are placed at a high elevation and only people’s heads are tracked. Head detection is still difficult since each foreground region may consist of multiple subjects. By combining data from several views, height information is extracted and used for head segmentation. The head tops, which are regarded as 2D patches at various heights, are detected by applying intensity correlation to aligned frames from the different cameras. The detected head tops are then tracked using common assumptions on motion direction and velocity. The method was tested on sequences in indoor and outdoor environments under challenging illumination conditions. We present a new method for recovering the 3D shape of a featureless smooth surface from three or more calibrated images illuminated by different light sources (three of them are independent). This method is unique in its ability to handle images taken from unconstrained perspective viewpoints and unconstrained illumination directions. The correspondence between such images is hard to compute and no other known method can handle this problem locally from a small number of images. Our method combines geometric and photometric information in order to recover dense correspondence between the images and accurately computes the 3D shape. Only a single pass starting at one point and local computation are used. This is in contrast to methods that use the occluding contours recovered from many images to initialize and constrain an optimization process. The output of our method can be used to initialize such processes. In the special case of fixed viewpoint, the proposed method becomes a new perspective photometric stereo algorithm. Nevertheless, the introduction of the multiview setup, self-occlusions, and regions close to the occluding boundaries are better handled, and the method is more robust to noise than photometric stereo. Most external software quality attributes are conceptually subjective. For example, maintainability is an external software
quality attribute, and it is subjective because interpersonally agreed definitions for the attribute include the phrase ‘the
ease with which maintenance tasks can be performed’. Subjectivity clearly makes measurement of the attributes and validation
of prediction systems for the attributes problematic. In fact, in spite of the definitions, few statistically valid attempts
at determining the predictive capability of prediction systems for external quality attributes have been published. When validations
have been attempted, one approach used is to ask experts to indicate if the values provided by the prediction system informally
agree with the experts’ intuition. These attempts are undertaken without determining, independently of the prediction system,
whether the experts are capable of direct consistent measurement of the attribute. Hence, a statistically valid and unbiased
estimate of the predictive capability of the prediction system cannot be obtained (because the experts’ measurement process
is not independent of the prediction system’s values). In this paper, it is argued that the problem of subjective measurement
of quality attributes should not be ignored if quality is to be introduced into software in a controlled way. Further, it
is argued that direct measurement of quality attributes should be encouraged and that in fact such measurement can be quantified
to establish consistency using an existing approach. However, the approach needs to be made more accessible to promote its
use. In so doing, it would be possible to decide whether consistent independent estimates of the true values of software quality attributes can be assigned and prediction systems for quality attributes developed.

The comparison of functional performance between a soldier wearing a chemical and biological (CB) protective equipment and an ordinary battle dress (BD) was conducted at Protechnik's facilities and Jozini–South Africa. The basis of the comparison was that CB protective equipment causes compatibility problems such as mobility and clearance, and that these factors would affect the soldier when performing various activities. Sixteen obstacle courses were erected to simulate a range of functions normally performed by an infantry soldier. Time taken by each soldier to complete a variety of motions and obstacle clearance activities was recorded. It was found that the CB protective equipment interfered with the soldier's performance. The soldier's movements were observed to be restricted and abnormal. The time taken to complete similar activities was longer when wearing the CB protective equipment than ordinary BD.

In optimal topological design of structures one obtains the configuration of optimal structures when the design domain, the
displacement boundary conditions and the applied loads are specified. In the optimal structure one often notices a marked
difference between the main bearing structure and the load transfer zones. The latter are composed of relatively light elements
the exact nature of which is not always very distinct. The main purpose of this paper is to allow the main bearing part of
the structure to emerge. Moreover the actual location of the load along its line of action is not always a design requirement.
In order to include this relaxed condition regarding the loading position the concept of transmissible or sliding forces is
introduced in topological design of structures. A transmissible force is a force of given magnitude and direction which can
be applied at any point along the line of action of the force. The optimization formulation is similar to standard topological
design procedure in addition to the condition of transmissability of the forces. It is shown that this condition reduces to
an equal displacement constraint along the line of action of the forces. The method is illustrated by typical structural examples.
It is observed that this numerical method produces indeed crisp images of the main structural components, unblurred by the
secondary load transfer elements. It is also indicated that many results are often replicas of Prager structures which were
previously obtained by analytical methods.

The a.c. magnetostriction of conventional grain-oriented 3 1/4% silicon-iron and more highly oriented silicon-iron has been measured from room temperature up to the Curie point using high temperature strain gauges. Curves of magnetostriction plotted against flux density showed that a definite change in the magnetization process occurred at about 300° C extending to 400° C for both types of material. This was considered to be due to the onset of magnetic annealing, considerably modified by the effect of the coating on the materials. From the experimental results the magnetostriction constant 100 has been calculated using a predicted domain structure and was found to agree well with single crystal values apart from within the 300 to 400° C region. 相似文献
