This paper presents an approach for constitutive modeling of the viscoplastic behavior of asphalt mixes. This approach utilizes an anisotropic non-associated flow rule based on the Drucker–Prager yield surface. The selection of this yield surface is motivated by the field stress paths and material properties associated with permanent deformation at high temperatures. The efficacy of the model is demonstrated by analyzing data from compressive triaxial tests conducted at different confining pressures and strain rates for three different mixes. The model parameters are related to the experimental measurements of aggregate shape characteristics, aggregate surface energy, inherent anisotropic distribution of aggregates, and microstructure damage measured using X-ray computed tomography and image analysis techniques. Establishing the relationship between the model parameters and material properties is important in order to optimize the mix properties, and achieve desirable mix performance.  相似文献

A novel bioactive, porous silica–calcium phosphate nanocomposite (SCPC) that can be used to treat large bone defects in load-bearing positions has been tested and has shown great potential for applications in tissue engineering. Porosity is essential to the performance of the composite material as a tissue engineering scaffold, as porous scaffolds provide a physical, 3-D template to support new tissue formation. However, porosity characterization using conventional techniques such as porosimetry or scanning electron microscopy requires extensive preparation of samples and may destroy important features during preparation and analysis stage. In this work, the new composite is characterized using an advanced high resolution X-ray computed tomography, which is a non-destructive testing technique that allows construction of the 3-D topology of the microstructure. The results clearly show the effectiveness and versatility of this technique in characterizing the porous architecture of the novel composite biomaterial. The pore distribution, morphology and interconnectivity in the composite scaffolds were found to be ideal for use in tissue engineering applications.  相似文献

Most Electronic waste (e-waste) ends up in landfills while some is recycled. A major site for e-waste recycling in Palestine is the village of Idhna in the Hebron District and most of this waste originates from Israel. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of e-waste on human DNA damage and chromosome breaks. The test sample was 46 non-smoker individuals with direct exposure to e-waste, either employed in the workshops or resident in Idhna. Genotoxicity data were compared with a control sample of sixteen unexposed individuals from Bethlehem and Al-Aizariya (Bethany). DNA damage was evaluated using the Comet assay while chromosome aberrations were tested by using conventional cytogenetic techniques. We noted an average of 4.83 aberration/cell/subject in test samples while in controls the average was 0.75. Chromosome aberration frequency was statistically different between exposed and control samples for total aberrations, for chromatid and chromosome breaks, and for formation of rings but not for dicenterics and tetraploidy. The Comet assay likewise showed that there was significant difference between exposed and control samples for DNA damage (p < 0.05). We therefore recommend measures to mitigate the health impact of e-waste recycling.  相似文献

This paper proposes a new design for an automotive magnetorheological (MR) braking system using multiple rotary disks. We develop an analytical model to calculate the torque and validate our results using finite element analysis considering a non-linear relationship between magnetic field and magnetic flux. Using genetic algorithm, we optimize the system’s dimensions to generate maximum torque. The optimized geometry shows an improvement in output torque compared to existing systems. Moreover, our design directs higher flux onto the MR fluid and subsequently generates greater shear frictions. This design can be used in applications such as rehabilitation devices.  相似文献

Layered hydroxide nanoparticles are generally biocompatible, and less toxic than most inorganic nanoparticles, making them an acceptable alternative drug delivery system. Due to growing concern over animal welfare and the expense of in vivo experiments both the public and the government are interested to find alternatives to animal testing. The toxicity potential of zinc aluminum layered hydroxide (ZAL) nanocomposite containing anti-Parkinsonian agent may be determined using a PC 12 cell model. ZAL nanocomposite demonstrated a decreased cytotoxic effect when compared to levodopa on PC12 cells with more than 80% cell viability at 100 μg/mL compared to less than 20% cell viability in a direct levodopa exposure. Neither levodopa-loaded nanocomposite nor the un-intercalated nanocomposite disturbed the cytoskeletal structure of the neurogenic cells at their IC50 concentration. Levodopa metabolite (HVA) released from the nanocomposite demonstrated the slow sustained and controlled release character of layered hydroxide nanoparticles unlike the burst uptake and release system shown with pure levodopa treatment.  相似文献
