Ti-6Al-4V samples were plasma nitrided at 520°C in two environments (nitrogen and a mixture of nitrogen and hydrogen in the ratio of 3:1) for two different time periods (4 h and 18 h). Fretting wear tests were conducted on unnitrided and nitrided samples for 50,000 cycles using two counterbody materials (unnitrided Ti-6Al-4V and alumina). Gross slip prevailed at a normal load of 4.9 N while mixed stick-slip prevailed at 9.8 N. Tangential force coefficient values of plasma nitrided samples were lower than those of unnitrided samples. The tangential force coefficient nearly stabilised after thousand cycles in case of samples tested against Ti-6Al-4V counterbody. On the other hand, it showed a continuously increasing trend in case of specimens tested against alumina counterbody. The samples nitrided for 4 h exhibited higher hardness and lower tangential force coefficient compared to the specimens nitrided for 18 h. The samples nitrided in nitrogen-hydrogen mixture environment exhibited higher hardness and lower tangential force coefficient compared to the specimens nitrided in nitrogen. The samples plasma nitrided in nitrogen-hydrogen mixture for 4 h exhibited the highest hardness and the lowest tangential force coefficient. The wear volume of the plasma nitrided samples was lower than that of the unnitrided samples. Owing to tribochemical reactions, the wear volume of unnitrided and nitrided samples fretted against alumina ball was higher than that of the samples fretted against Ti-6Al-4V. A consistent trend was not observed regarding which nitriding condition would result in lower wear volume at different loads.  相似文献

Prostate brachytherapy quality assessment procedure should be performed while the patient is still on the operating table since this would enable physicians to implant additional seeds immediately into the prostate if necessary thus reducing the costs and increasing patient outcome. Seed placement procedure is readily performed under fluoroscopy and ultrasound guidance. Therefore, it has been proposed that seed locations be reconstructed from fluoroscopic images and prostate boundaries be identified in ultrasound images to perform dosimetry in the operating room. However, there is a key hurdle that needs to be overcome to perform the ultrasound and fluoroscopy-based dosimetry: it is highly time-consuming for physicians to outline prostate boundaries in ultrasound images manually, and there is no method that enables physicians to identify three-dimensional (3-D) prostate boundaries in postimplant ultrasound images in a fast and robust fashion. In this paper, we propose a new method where the segmentation is defined in an optimization framework as fitting the best surface to the underlying images under shape constraints. To derive these constraints, we modeled the shape of the prostate using spherical harmonics of degree eight and performed statistical analysis on the shape parameters. After user initialization, our algorithm identifies the prostate boundaries on the average in 2 min. For algorithm validation, we collected 30 postimplant prostate volume sets, each consisting of axial transrectal ultrasound images acquired at 1-mm increments. For each volume set, three experts outlined the prostate boundaries first manually and then using our algorithm. By treating the average of manual boundaries as the ground truth, we computed the segmentation error. The overall mean absolute distance error was 1.26 +/- 0.41 mm while the percent volume overlap was 83.5 +/- 4.2. We found the segmentation error to be slightly less than the clinically-observed interobserver variability.  相似文献

Ge nanocrystals embedded in SiO2 matrix have been synthesized by swift heavy ion irradiation of Ge implanted SiO2 films. In the present study, 400 keV Ge+ ions were implanted into SiO2 films at dose of 3 × 1016 ions/cm2 at room temperature. The as-implanted samples were irradiated with 150 MeV Ag12+ ions with various fluences. Similarly 400 keV Ge+ ions implanted into Silicon substrate at higher fluence at 573 K have been irradiated with 100 MeV Au8+ ions at room temperature (RT). These samples were subsequently characterized by XRD and Raman to understand the re-crystallization behavior. The XRD results confirm the presence of Ge crystallites in the irradiated samples. Rutherford backscattering spectrometry (RBS) was used to quantify the concentration of Ge in the SiO2 matrix. Variation in the nanocrystal size as a function of ion fluence is presented. The basic mechanism of ion beam induced re-crystallization has been discussed.  相似文献

Data from 33 feeding trials, conducted on lactating riverine buffaloes from different institutes across India, were subjected to multiple regression analysis to derive nutritional requirements for dry matter (DM), total digestible nutrients (TDN), crude protein (CP) and digestible crude protein (DCP) for maintenance, milk production and body weight gain. Maintenance requirements for DM, TDN, CP and DCP were 59.9, 35.3, 5.43 and 3.14 g/kgW(0.75), respectively; corresponding requirements for producing 1 kg 6% FCM were 688, 406, 90.3 and 55.2 g and for 1 g gain in body weight were 3.37, 1.97, 0.327 and 0.23 g. Regression equations had high R2 values (061. 0.66, 0.84 and 0.68 for prediction of DM, TDN, CP and DCP, respectively) and the equations (F-value) as well as coefficients were highly significant (P <0.001). Regressed values were used to derive feeding standards. Derived values matched well with the actual intake versus performance of animals under diverse feeding conditions. New standards predicted requirements and intake of nutrients for different production levels better than existing feeding standards. Because they are based on a more thorough analysis of data, the new feeding standards will be appropriate for use widely in India.  相似文献

Recently, it has been shown that prior to surgery a transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) study of the prostate and pubic arch can effectively determine pubic arch interference (PAI), a major stumbling block for the prostate brachytherapy (radioactive seed implantation) procedure. This PAI determination is currently being done with digital images taken directly from an ultrasound (US) machine. However, 70-75% of US machines used in prostate brachytherapy do not have a method to save or transfer digital image data for external use. To allow PAI assessment regardless of US platform and to keep costs to a minimum, we need to digitize the images from the US video output when there is no direct digital transfer capability. D/A and A/D conversions can introduce quantization error and other noises in these digitized images. The purpose of this work is to assess the image degradation caused by digitization and quantitatively evaluate whether after digitization it is still possible to accurately assess PAI. We used a PAI assessment algorithm (developed in previous research by our group) to predict the location of the pubic arch on both digital images and those captured after digitization. These predicted arch locations were compared to the "true" position of the pubic arch as established during surgery. Despite apparent image degradation due to the D/A and A/D conversions, we found no statistically significant difference between the accuracy of the predicted arch locations from the digitized images and those from the digital images. By demonstrating equally accurate determination of pubic arch locations using digital and digitized images, we conclude that TRUS-based PAI assessment can be easily and inexpensively performed in clinics where it is needed.  相似文献

The authors have experimentally found that the threshold current density of 1.5 mu m tensile-strained single quantum well lasers decreases with increased tensile strain. A threshold current density as low as of 197 A/cm/sup 2/ is obtained with an In/sub 0.3/Ga/sub 0.7/As well. With semi-insulating current blocking layers and high reflection facet coatings, a threshold current as low as 2 mA is obtained from 150 mu m long lasers and a maximum CW operation temperature of 135 degrees C is achieved from 1 mm long lasers.<>  相似文献

The aim is to model "activity" performed by a group of moving and interacting objects (which can be people, cars, or different rigid components of the human body) and use the models for abnormal activity detection. Previous approaches to modeling group activity include co-occurrence statistics (individual and joint histograms) and dynamic Bayesian networks, neither of which is applicable when the number of interacting objects is large. We treat the objects as point objects (referred to as "landmarks") and propose to model their changing configuration as a moving and deforming "shape" (using Kendall's shape theory for discrete landmarks). A continuous-state hidden Markov model is defined for landmark shape dynamics in an activity. The configuration of landmarks at a given time forms the observation vector, and the corresponding shape and the scaled Euclidean motion parameters form the hidden-state vector. An abnormal activity is then defined as a change in the shape activity model, which could be slow or drastic and whose parameters are unknown. Results are shown on a real abnormal activity-detection problem involving multiple moving objects.  相似文献

New biopsy techniques, increased life expectancy, and prostate-specific antigen (PSA) screening have contributed to an increase in the reported incidence of prostate cancer. Among several treatment options available to the patients, transperineal prostate brachytherapy has emerged as a medically successful, cost-effective outpatient procedure for treating localized prostate cancer. Transperineal prostate brachytherapy employs transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) as the primary imaging modality to accurately preplan and subsequently execute the placement of radioactive seeds into the prostate. Under TRUS guidance, a needle (preloaded with radioactive seeds) is inserted through a template guide, through the perineum and into a predetermined prostate target. The pubic arch, formed by the central union of pelvic bones, is a potential barrier to the passage of these needles in the prostate. A critical aspect, therefore, in the planning and execution of the brachytherapy procedure is the accurate assessment of pubic arch interference (PAI) in relation to the prostate. Traditionally, the evaluation of PAI has involved computed tomography correlate scanning or crude subjective evaluations. In this paper, the authors describe a new method of assessing PAI by detecting the pubic arch via image processing on the TRUS images. The PAI detection (PAID) algorithm first uses a technique known as sticks to selectively enhance the contrast of linear features in ultrasound images. Next, the enhanced image is thresholded via percentile thresholding. Finally, the authors fit a parabola (a model for the pubic arch) recursively to the thresholded image. Their evaluation result from 15 cases indicates that the algorithm can successfully detect the pubic arch with 90% accuracy. Based on this study, the authors believe that detecting the pubic arch and assessing PAI can be done practically and more accurately in the clinical setting using TRUS rather than the current available methods  相似文献
