Background

The influence of feed restriction and different diet's caloric value on the aerobic and anaerobic capacity is unclear in the literature. Thus, the objectives of this study were to determine the possible influences of two diets with different caloric values and the influence of feed restriction on the aerobic (anaerobic threshold: AT) and anaerobic (time to exhaustion: Tlim) variables measured by a lactate minimum test (LM) in rats.

Methods

We used 40 adult Wistar rats. The animals were divided into four groups: ad libitum commercial Purina? diet (3028.0 Kcal/kg) (ALP), restricted commercial Purina? diet (RAP), ad libitum semi-purified AIN-93 diet (3802.7 Kcal/kg) (ALD) and restricted semi-purified AIN-93 diet (RAD). The animals performed LM at the end of the experiment, 48 h before euthanasia. Comparisons between groups were performed by analysis of variance (p < 0,05).

Results

At the end of the experiment, the weights of the rats in the groups with the restricted diets were significantly lower than those in the groups with ad libitum diet intakes. In addition, the ALD group had higher amounts of adipose tissue. With respect to energetic substrates, the groups subjected to diet restriction had significantly higher levels of liver and muscle glycogen. There were no differences between the groups with respect to AT; however, the ALD group had lower lactatemia at the AT intensity and higher Tlim than the other groups.

Conclusions

We conclude that dietary restriction induces changes in energetic substrates and that ad libitum intake of a semi-purified AIN-93 diet results in an increase in adipose tissue, likely reducing the density of the animals in water and favouring their performance during the swimming exercises.  相似文献

In the study, we have examined the antitumor and antimicrobial activities of the methanol extract, the fractions, a fraction of total alkaloids and two alkaloids isolated from the stem of Erythroxylum caatingae Plowman. All test fractions, except the hexane fractions, showed antimicrobial activity on gram-positive bacteria and fungi. The acetate: methanol (95:5), acetate, chloroform and hexane fractions show the highest cytotoxicity activity against the NCI-H292, HEp-2 and K562 cell lines using MTT. The absence of hemolysis in the erythrocytes of mice was observed in these fractions and 6β-Benzoyloxy-3α-(3,4,5- trimethoxybenzoyloxy) tropane (catuabine B). Staining with Annexin V-FITC and JC-1 was used to verify the mechanism of action of the compounds of E. caatingae that showed cytotoxicity less than 30 μg/mL in leukemic cells. After 48 h of incubation, we observed that the acetate: methanol (95:5), acetate, and chloroform fractions, as well as the catuabine B, increased in the number of cells in early apoptosis, from 53.0 to 74.8%. An analysis of the potential of the mitochondrial membrane by incorporation of JC-1 showed that most cells during incubation of the acetate: methanol (95:5) and acetate fractions (63.85 and 59.2%) were stained, suggesting the involvement of an intrinsic pathway of apoptosis.  相似文献

We have investigated the structural, electronic, and ferromagnetic properties of chromium (Cr)-doped rocksalt BaTe (\(\hbox {Ba}_{1-x}\hbox {Cr}_{x}\hbox {Te}\)) compounds with compositions \(x = 0.25\), 0.5, and 0.75, based on density functional theory with generalized gradient approximation of Wu–Cohen (GGA-WC) and Tran–Blaha-modified Becke–Johnson (TB-mBJ) potential using the WIEN2k package. We found that the electronic structure showed half-metallic ferromagnetic character with spin polarization of 100 % around the Fermi level. In addition, the minority-spin bands depicted a half-metallic ferromagnetic (HMF) gap and half-metallic (HM) gap. The improved HMF and HM gaps found with the TB-mBJ potential are higher than with the GGA-WC approximation. These large HM gaps make \(\hbox {Ba}_{1-x} \hbox {Cr}_{x}\hbox {Te}\) compounds promising candidates for use in spintronics applications.  相似文献

This paper deals with the influence of discontinuous particle-size distribution on the basic properties of asphaltic concrete. New particle-size curves were obtained by removing the fine, medium and coarse material connected with one or two successive sieves. Consequently the following characteristics have been examined: stability, deformation and voids of compacted asphaltic concrete according to the Greek specifications. The results showed that a high degree of flexibility capable of removing part of the aggregate exists. In that case the values of tests present positive or negative results which are also influenced by the existing proportion of bitumen. Thus a revision of specifications concerned with particle-size distribution might be possible.  相似文献

The signal charge from a free air ionisation chamber for the measurement of air kerma and exposure consists of not only the charge of ion pairs produced by secondary electrons (i.e. photoelectrons, Compton electrons and Auger electrons), but also the charge of the secondary electrons and single and multiple charged ions formed by the release of the secondary electrons. In the present work, correction factors for air kerma and exposure for the charge of the secondary electrons and ions were calculated for photons with energies in the range from 1 to 400 keV. The effects of an increase in the W value of air for low-energy electrons were also taken into consideration. It was found that the correction factors for air kerma and exposure have a maximum value near a photon energy of 30 keV; in the lower energy region, the correction factor for exposure monotonically decreases with a decrease in photon energy except for a small dip due to K-edge absorption by argon atoms in air. The values of the correction factors were found to be 0.9951 and 0.9892, respectively, for a spectrum with a mean energy of 7.5 keV, the reference X-ray spectrum with the lowest mean energy in ISO 4037-1. The air kerma correction is smaller than that for exposure, because for air kerma the signal due to the charge of secondary electrons and ions is partly compensated by the decrease in the number of ion pairs produced by the secondary electrons due to the increase of the W value of air for lower energy electrons.  相似文献

The purpose of this study is mainly to evaluate the performance of the continuous recirculation flow cell at low current density and pH (the pH at which the effluents are available) in removing heavy metals from copper smelting effluent by cathodic reduction. During the electrolysis at different pH, % removal of heavy metals removal, energy consumption and heterogeneous reaction rate constants were investigated at given flow rate and current density on the selected industrial effluent. The overall specific energy consumption at the pH 0.64 was observed to be lowest, which is 10.99kWh/kg of heavy metal removal.  相似文献

Biodegradable polymer-based scaffolds containing osteoconductive hydroxyapatite (HA) particles can be very useful for bone tissue engineering. In this investigation, HA nanoparticles were incorporated in poly(hydroxybutyrate-co-valerate) (PHBV) polymer to fabricate osteoconductive composite scaffolds. PHBV and HA/PHBV scaffolds were made using an emulsion freezing/freeze-drying technique. The scaffolds produced were subsequently characterized using several techniques. It was found that the scaffolds were highly porous and had interconnected porous structures. The pore size ranged from several microns to around 300 mum. The spherical HA nanoparticles which were produced in-house through a nanoemulsion process could be incorporated into composite scaffolds although some of these nanoparticles existed on the surface of pore walls when a relatively large amount of HA was used for composite scaffolds. The incorporation of HA nanoparticles also enhanced compressive mechanical properties of the scaffolds.  相似文献

In the northeast of Brazil, caprine arthritis‐encephalitis (CAE) is one of the key reasons for herd productivity decreasing that result in considerable economic losses. A comparative study was carried out using computed radiography (CR), histological analysis (HA), and scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) of the joints of CAE infected and normal goats. Humerus head surface of positive animals presented reduced joint space, increased bone density, and signs of degenerative joint disease (DJD). The carpal joint presented no morphological alterations in CR in any of the animals studied. Tarsus joint was the most affected, characterized by severe DJD, absence of joint space, increased periarticular soft tissue density, edema, and bone sclerosis. Histological analysis showed chronic tissue lesions, complete loss of the surface zone, absence of proteoglycans in the transition and radial zones and destruction of the cartilage surface in the CAE positive animals. Analysis by SEM showed ulcerated lesions with irregular and folded patterns on the joint surface that distinguished the limits between areas of normal and affected cartilage. The morphological study of the joints of normal and CAE positive goats deepened understanding of the alteration in the tissue bioarchitecture of the most affected joints. The SEM finding sustained previous histological reports, similar to those found for rheumatoid arthritis, suggesting that the goat infected with CAE can be considered as a potential model for research in this area. This study aimed to investigate the effects of sublethal concentrations of carvacrol (CAR) and 1,8-cineole (CIN) alone and in combination on the morphology, cell viability and membrane permeability of Pseudomonas fluorescens ATCC 11253 cultivated in a vegetable-based broth. Transmission and scanning electron microscopy images of bacterial cells exposed to CAR and CIN alone or in combination showed marked ultrastructural changes after 1h of exposure. These changes included shrunken protoplasm, discontinuity of the outer and cytoplasmic membranes and leakage of the intracellular material. Confocal scanning laser microscopy images corroborated the electron microscopy data, showing a decrease in the number of SYTO-9 cells (intact cells) with a concomitant increase in the number of PI-positive cells (dead cells). All of these morphological changes are indicative of increased membrane permeability and the loss of bacterial envelope integrity, which ultimately lead to cell death. The combination of sublethal concentrations of CAR and CIN could be applied to inhibit the growth of P. fluorescens on vegetables.  相似文献
