Effect of a magnetic water treatment on homogeneous and heterogeneous precipitation of calcium carbonate 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this paper are reported experimental results on the effect of a magnetic field on the precipitation process of calcium carbonate scale from a hard water. Carbonically pure water was circulated at a constant flow rate in a magnetic field. After this treatment, calcium carbonate precipitation was induced by degassing dissolved carbonic gas. The nucleation time was identified from the variations of the pH and the Ca(2+) concentration. The ratio between homogeneous and heterogeneous nucleation was determined from the measurement of the mass of precipitated calcium carbonate. It is shown that the magnetic treatment increases the total amount of precipitate. This effect depends on the solution pH, the flow rate and the duration of the treatment. In addition, the magnetic treatment modifies the ratio between homogeneous/heterogeneous nucleation. Homogeneous nucleation is promoted by an increasing the pH of water, the flow rate as well as the residence time. The magnetic treatment enhances these effects with a maximum for a 15 min treatment time. It is shown that the presence of calcium carbonate colloid particles is not necessary. It is advanced that the main magnetic effects concern the associations of ionic species which are present in the solution and which are involved in the nucleation process of calcium carbonate precipitation. 相似文献

In this paper, we consider the problem of unsupervised discrete feature selection/weighting. Indeed, discrete data are an important component in many data mining, machine learning, image processing, and computer vision applications. However, much of the published work on unsupervised feature selection has concentrated on continuous data. We propose a probabilistic approach that assigns relevance weights to discrete features that are considered as random variables modeled by finite discrete mixtures. The choice of finite mixture models is justified by its flexibility which has led to its widespread application in different domains. For the learning of the model, we consider both Bayesian and information-theoretic approaches through stochastic complexity. Experimental results are presented to illustrate the feasibility and merits of our approach on a difficult problem which is clustering and recognizing visual concepts in different image data. This paper presents numerical results concerning the temperature distribution due to electric discharge machining process. From these thermal results, the material removal rate and the total roughness are deduced and compared with experimental observations. Excessive fluoride concentration in potable water can lead to fluorosis of teeth and bones. In the present study, Donnan dialysis (DD) is applied for the removal of fluoride ions from diluted sodium fluoride solutions. A four factor two level (24) full factorial design was used to investigate the influence of different physico-chemical parameters on fluoride removal efficiency (Y F ) and fluoride flux (J F ) through anion exchange membrane. The statistical design determines factors which have the important effects on Donnan dialysis performance and studies all interactions among the considered parameters. The four significant factors were initial fluoride concentration, feed flow rate, temperature and agitation speed. The experimental results and statistical analysis show that the temperature and agitation speed have positive effects on fluoride removal efficiency and the initial fluoride concentration has a negative effect. In the case of fluoride flux, feed flow rate and initial concentration are the main effect and all factors have a positive effect. The interaction between studied parameters was not negligible on two responses. A maximum fluoride removal of 75.52% was obtained under optimum conditions and the highest value of fluoride flux obtained was 2.4 mg/cm2·h. Empirical regression models were also obtained and used to predict the flux and the fluoride removal profiles with satisfactory results. 相似文献

In this work, Polarization–Electric field (P–E) hysteresis loop was evaluated and dielectric studies of the ceramic obtained from white rice husk ash (WRHA) and soda lime silica (SLS) glass was reported for electronic applications. Dielectric properties and hysteresis loop of the specimens were measured using a LCR meter and Sawyer–Tower circuit, respectively. The dielectric analysis clearly shows that the different amount of SLS glass content gives the different value of dielectric constant and loss to the ceramic. Sample with 2.5 wt% SLS glass content includes the lowest dielectric constant (11.13) among others, at 100 kHz, when sintered at 1,200 °C. The results show dielectric constant and loss of the specimens decrease with increasing applied frequency. P–E loop measurement indicates that the WRHA ceramic, generally, had capacitor capability and became more “resistor-like” than “capacitor-like”, with addition of SLS glass content. 相似文献

The aim of the present work was to study the effect of season on phospholipids and triacylglycerols (TAG) of mantle and tentacles of female and male wild Sepia officinalis. The identified phospholipids were phosphatidylethanolamine (PtdEtn), phosphatidylcholine (PtdCho), phosphatidylserine (PtdSer), and phosphatidylinositol (PtdIns), and PtdEtn was the major fraction. Results showed apparent seasonal variation of phospholipid content, particularly with female samples. Fatty acid composition of phospholipid classes showed a differentiation much more in the proportions than in the diversity of fatty acids. Results showed that the major saturated fatty acids were 16:0 and 18:0, the major monounsaturated fatty acids were 18:1 and 20:l, and the major polyunsaturated fatty acids were docosahexaenoic acid (22:6n-3) (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (20:5n-3) (EPA). The results relative to TAG demonstrated significant variations. Principal component analysis confirmed the seasonal and sexual effects. This study could be appropriate for the improvement of consistent monitoring of phospholipid and TAG accumulation in cephalopod, which might be important for both physiological studies and food industries. 相似文献

Aquatic ecosystems face variable exposure to pesticides, especially during floodings which are associated with short bursts of high contaminant concentrations that influence biological systems. A study was undertaken to highlight the impact of the herbicide diuron applied in mixture with the fungicide tebuconazole on natural periphyton during flooding events. Periphyton were grown in two series of two lotic outdoor mesocosms: one series was non-contaminated while the other was exposed to chronic contamination. After 4 weeks, one channel of each series was exposed to three successive pulses, with each pulse followed by one week of recovery. Impacts on periphyton were assessed by using Denaturing Gel Gradient Electrophoresis to characterize eukaryotic community structure. At a functional scale, photosynthetic efficiency was quantified during each pulse, and the induced tolerance to diuron was estimated by performing short-term inhibition tests based on photosynthetic efficiency. Moreover, pesticide concentrations in the water column and periphyton matrix were measured. Diuron was adsorbed in the periphyton during each pulse and desorbed 13 h after pulse end. The different pulses affected the eukaryotic community structures of the control biofilms, but not of the chronically exposed ones. During the first pulse, photosynthetic efficiency was correlated with pesticide concentration in the water phase, and there was no difference between periphyton from chronically contaminated channels and control channels. However, during the second and third pulses, the photosynthetic efficiency of periphyton chronically exposed to pesticides appeared to be less impacted by the acute pulsed exposure of pesticide. These changes were consistent with the acquisition of induced tolerance to diuron since only after the third pulse that periphyton from chronic channel became tolerant to diuron. Our experimental study indicates that the effects of pulsed acute exposures to pesticides on periphyton depended on whether the communities had previously been exposed to the same stressors or not. 相似文献

In the present work, a comparative study of a mixture of three pesticides (chlortoluron, carbofuran and bentazon) has been investigated by advanced oxidation processes such as photo-Fenton and electro-Fenton. These processes are based on the in situ production of hydroxyl radical, a highly strong oxidant, which allows the degradation of organic pollutants until their mineralization into CO2 and H2O. For the photo-Fenton process, the effect of key parameters such as initial catalyst (Fe3+) concentration and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) dosage were studied. Under optimal operating conditions, the evolution of total organic carbon (TOC) has been investigated for the two processes. Obtained results showed that more than 90% of TOC removal was obtained after only 2 h of photo-Fenton treatment whereas the electro-Fenton process needed 8 h of treatment. Nevertheless, the comparison of cost treatment shows that the photo-Fenton process is more expensive than electro-Fenton. The evolution of pesticide's concentration during treatment was determined by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Inorganic ions released such as chloride, nitrate, sulphate and ammonium ions are identified and their kinetic evolution was measured by ion chromatographic analyses. 相似文献
