Low-temperature pyroelectric properties of Li<Subscript>2</Subscript>SO<Subscript>4</Subscript>

The pyroelectric properties of lithium sulfate have been studied theoretically on the hypothesis of a pseudosymmetry of the structure of its polar phase. Analytical expressions are proposed for the temperature dependences of its pyroelectric polarization and pyroelectric coefficient at low temperatures and near the polymorphic transformation. The pyroelectric and piezoelectric coefficients of a polar crystal are shown to be in direct proportion.     

Etching behavior of CVD zinc selenide in inorganic acid solutions

Chemical interaction between polished surfaces of polycrystalline zinc selenide and inorganic acid solutions of various concentrations has been studied.     

Micromechanism of corrosion fracture of the plates of heat exchangers

We have studied the micromechanism of corrosion fracture of heat-transfer plates of a heat exchanger. The operation of heat exchangers under conditions of contamination of the plates with a sediment from water leads to their local corrosion under the sediment. The conditions of operation of the heat exchangers being equal, heat-transfer plates made of AiSi316Ti steel worked 2.36 times as long as those of AiSi304L steel. The corrosion fracture of plates under the sediment began from pitting initiation near nonmetallic inclusions of a certain nature. A New Generation of Magnetic Roll Separators Based on Rare-Earth Magnets for Concentration and Purification of Weakly Magnetic Materials

Synthesis,characterization and properties of functionalized styrene–maleimide copolymers

New functionalized styrene–maleimide copolymers were prepared by free radical copolymerization of styrene (St) and N‐4‐carboxybutylmaleimide (NBMI) in chloroform, using 2,2′‐azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as initiator. Monomer and copolymer characterization was carried out by ¹H‐ and ¹³C‐NMR. Copolymer composition was determined by elemental analysis and Fourier‐transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The glass transition temperature (from DSC) and the thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) of the copolymers were consistent with the thermal behavior and stability observed for alternating St–maleimide copolymers. St–NBMI copolymers crosslinked with divinylbenzene (DVB) were also synthesized and their cation exchange properties evaluated in order to assess the capacity of the new copolymers to bind metallic ions. Location of structural sections from within a highly distorted complex line drawing

Complex and highly distorted line drawings are produced by subjects attempting the Rey Complex Figure test, a clinical test of neuropsychological assessment. However, the marking scheme conventionally employed can be subjective and unreliable. In this paper, the first stages in automating this scoring system are investigated using a robust technique to locate a reduced set of scoring sections and a knowledge-based system that employs spatial metrics and fuzzy approximation techniques. Testing the technique using clinical data produced encouraging results that support the argument that this is a feasible approach for implementing a fully automated system, and that in its current state, can be immediately applied in a semi-automated system.     

Preparation of autologous bone marrow grafts for cryopreservation using the AS104 cell separator

The heterocomplex of glycoproteins E and NS1 of tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) virus was isolated from culture fluid of continuous SPEV (porcine embryo kidney) cells by affinity chromatography on CL4B sepharose with immobilized monoclonal antibodies to TBE virus protein NS1. Comparison of the TBE E-NS1 heterocomplex from culture fluid and cells showed the predominance of secreted extracellular form. A similar TBE virus heterocomplex E-NS1 was revealed in the blood sera of patients with TBE but not in their lymphocytes. Extracellular localization of the E-NS1 complex at the late stage of infection rules out its hypothesized participation in the replication of TBE virus. Virtual absence of the heterocomplex and presence of proteins E and NS1 in high concentrations in the cells makes the nonspecific aggregation of these proteins impossible. Evidently, the extracellular heterocomplex E-NS1 may react with virusspecific antibodies or with cytotoxic T lymphocytes.
