The nutritional composition of the edible seaweeds Codium fragile, Gracilaria chilensis and Macrocystis pyrifera was determined, including amino acid and fatty acid contents along with tocol and carotenoid contents. The results indicated that the three algae C. fragile, G. chilensis and M. pyrifera showed a high range of protein contents (13.7–10.8%), amino acid contents (1879.6–1417.7 mg/100 g dry algae) and a low content in lipids (0.7–15.0%). The most abundant fatty acids in C. fragile and G. chilensis were linolenic, oleic, and linoleic acid. δ‐Tocopherol and α‐tocopherol (677.8 and 453.5 µg/g lipid, respectively) were found in C. fragile, while in G. chilensis and M. pyrifera, γ‐tocotrienol and α‐tocopherol (263.5 and 1327.7 µg/g lipid, respectively) were found. In addition, in C. fragile and G. chilensis β‐carotene was the principal carotenoid found (197.9 and 113.7 µg/g dry algae, respectively) compared with M. pyrifera (17.4 µg/g dry algae). The composition of macronutrients (minerals, carbohydrate‐type dietetic fiber, proteins; low in lipids) and micronutrients (essential amino acids, PUFA of balanced n‐6/n‐3 proportion, β‐carotene and α‐tocopherol as source of vitamins A and E), corroborate the nutritional and biological potential of the studied algae, which constitute useful raw materials for the development of diets or ingredients for human and animal nutrition.  相似文献

Studies on the bacterial communities in Lake Erie have been largely focused on cyanobacteria. To characterize the community structure of the other bacteria, we examined the 16S rRNA gene content of free-living (FL) and particle-associated (PA) bacterioplankton populations in Sandusky Bay (SD) and adjacent waters in the Western Basin (WB) of Lake Erie. A comprehensive survey of nutrients and other limnological variables was also performed in parallel. A total of 18,569 of 16S rRNA V6 pyrotag sequences were recovered, which were affiliated with 64 unique bacterial orders within 14 phyla. FL bacteria were composed differently from PA ones and contained significantly more Actinomycetales. In addition, FL bacteria were taxonomically more diverse. Despite the distinct environmental conditions, compositional variation was insignificant between bacteria in the SD and WB samples.  相似文献

A retrospective study to determine the effect of extranodal axillary disease on prognosis in invasive carcinoma of the breast was undertaken in a series of 152 cases. It was found that extranodal disease has an unfavorable effect on prognosis in those patients with three or less involved axillary nodes and no effect on prognosis in those patients with four or more involved axillary nodes. Extranodal axillary disease was found to have no influence on the interval between surgery and initial recurrence nor on the anatomic distribution of the recurrence, local or remote.  相似文献

The application of roller-bottle cell culture techniques and a relatively simple purification scheme has led to the isolation of milligram quantities of a polypeptide cell multiplication stimulating activity (MSA) from Buffalo rat liver cell conditioned medium. We have characterized the apparently homogeneous MSA with respect to its biological activity, its N-terminal amino acid residue, and its amino acid composition, and have tested the MSA for growth-promoting activity in a number of cell types.  相似文献

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of different enrichment procedures on the detection of Listeria monocytogenes in food, by a comparison of subculture onto chromogenic agar with real-time PCR. Two different culture media, the primary and secondary enrichment broths of the U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) method used for PCR detection of L. monocytogenes, were compared for the primary enrichment of retail ground chicken samples. L. monocytogenes was detected after the completion of each enrichment procedure in 63% (complete FSIS procedure) and 60% (plain FSIS secondary enrichment broth incubated for 48 h) of the samples by both culture and PCR, whereas a combination of the results for the two enrichment procedures revealed 86% of the samples to be positive. Most of the samples analyzed contained a mixture of lineage I and II strains, and their ratio varied for each enrichment procedure. This mixture could have a significant effect on the result of detection of L. monocytogenes for each individual sample, explaining the increase in positive samples when the results of the two enrichment procedures were combined. The use of different isolation procedures can affect the specific samples identified as positive and the specific strains isolated.  相似文献

Many foods gain new mechanical, thermal and textural properties after being processed due to interactions between carbohydrates and proteins. This effect is characteristic for each foodstuff. The properties of extruded isolated soy protein (ISP) and rice starch were studied considering the following extrusion variables: starch proportion with respect to ISP (0–100%), pH (3–9), moisture content (20–30%) and temperature (140–180ºC). The following characteristics were measured: Water absorption index (WAI), water solubility index (WSI), glass transition temperature (Tg), melting temperature (Tm), viscosity at 90ºC and at 50ºC, storage (G′), loss modulus (G′′) and tan δ. The results indicate that the extruded starch exhibits higher WAI and WSI values than untreated starch. For extruded ISP these values are much lower than for untreated ISP. Extrudates with higher starch proportion had higher Tg and Tm values; pH has a significant effect (p<0.05), at pH 3 higher Tg values were observed, and at pH 9 higher values of Tm. The highest viscosities at 90ºC and 50ºC were observed for extrudates with a higher starch proportion and pH 9. Extruded mixtures showed a more elastic than viscous behavior and an extruded 1:1 blend of starch‐ISP exhibited the behavior of a viscous liquid.  相似文献

The super sweet corns Krispy king, Victor and 324 (sh2 hybrids) were evaluated to determine their adaptabilities to the industrial canning process as whole kernels. All these hybrids and Bonanza (control) were sown in San Joaquín (Carabobo, Venezuela), harvested and canned. After 110 days storage at room temperature they were analyzed to be compared physically, chemically and sensorially with Bonanza hybrid. Results did not show significant differences among most of the physical characteristics, except for percentage of broken kernels which was higher in 324 hybrid. Chemical parameters showed significant differences (P < 0.05) comparing each super sweet hybrid with Bonanza. The super sweet hybrids presented a higher sugar content and soluble solid of the brine than Bonanza, also a lower pH. The super sweet whole kernel presented a lower soluble solids content than Bonanza but they were not significant (Krispy king and 324). Appearance, odor and overall quality were the same for super sweet hybrids and Bonanza (su). Color, flavor and sweetness were better for 324 than all the other hybrids. Super sweet hybrids presented a very good adaptation to the canning process, having as an advantage that doesn't require sugar addition in the brine and a very good texture (firm and crispy).  相似文献

The severity of pulmonary fibrosis is the main prognostic factor for survival of patients with interstitial lung diseases (ILD). Unfortunately, lung biopsy, which is the best method to assess fibrosis quantitatively, is done only once during the evolution of the disease. In this study we analyzed the relationship between the degree of fibrosis and the exponential constant k, derived from the lung pressure-volume curve (LPVC) in 33 patients with chronic ILD, 19 with pigeon breeder's disease (PBD), and 14 with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Pulmonary function tests, including the LPVC, were obtained before biopsy. A semiquantitative histologic assessment of the severity of fibrosis was performed on lung tissues. All patients showed a decrease of total lung capacity, residual volume, compliance, and Pao2. The mean value of the constant k was 0.08 +/- 0.06. When expressed as a percent of normal values, 25 patients exhibited values of k lower than 70% of predicted; of the remaining 8 patients whose values were above 70% of predicted, 7 had PBD and only one IPF. On morphologic analysis, 19 patients displayed more than 50% fibrosis. No significant correlations were found between the extent of the lesion or severity of lung fibrosis and the conventional pulmonary function tests. By contrast, a moderate but significant correlation was found between k and the severity of lung fibrosis (r = -0.38, p < 0.05). These findings show that the shape of the LPVC, represented by the constant k, predicts the degree of lung fibrosis and could be useful in the clinical assessment and follow-up of patients with ILD.  相似文献
