The use of the crack tip stress intensity factor, K, has survived almost 50 years as the key parameter correlating fatigue crack growth. As time past the range of the stress intensity, ΔK, was recognized as causing alternating plasticity at the crack tip. The threshold level for ΔK was discovered. Further, the occurrence of crack closure was noted which affected the ΔK for different load ratios, R of cyclic loading. The ASTM method of counting the linear part of the load displacement for determining ΔKopen was found to understate the ΔKeffective, which correlates data for different load ratios. One approach to adjust for this problem is the “Partial Closure Model”, where the closure only occurs away from the crack tip. Here it will be discussed that such a model leads to a universal growth law. Moreover, this law shows application in estimating the order of magnitude of crack growth life (<107 cycles) for example with very high cycle fatigue (>109 cycles). Matrix degradation has a major impact on the release kinetics of drug delivery systems. Regarding ordered mesoporous silica materials for biomedical applications, their dissolution is an important parameter that should be taken into consideration. In this paper, we review the main factors that govern the mesoporous silica dissolution in physiological environments. We also provide the necessary knowledge to researchers in the area for tuning the dissolution rate of those matrices, so the degradation could be controlled and the material behaviour optimised.  相似文献

In this paper, the thermographic results obtained by studying some masterpieces of the bronze statuary of Rome are presented. More specifically, a quantitative approach has been adopted in the investigation of the Capitoline She Wolf, hosted in the Musei Capitolini, and of the Boxer at Rest and the Hellenistic Prince belonging to the collection of the Museo Nazionale Romano. The obtained results provided data useful to characterize the properties of the bronze alloy and several subsurface features of the statue, such as casting faults and patches. In particular, the interface between different kind of patches and the main body of the statue has been investigated in order to determine the way they were applied. Moreover, the thermal diffusivity of the alloy of the Capitoline She Wolf has been evaluated and quantitative investigations have been carried out in order to determine the depth of some features, such as the cavities originating from air bubbles in the casting melt.  相似文献

Hybrid metal halides containing perovskite layers have recently shown great potential for applications in solar cells and light‐emitting diodes. Such compounds exhibit quantum confinement effects leading to tunable optical and electronic properties. Thus, broadband white‐light emission has been observed from diverse metal halides and, owing to high color rendering index, high thermal stability, and low‐temperature solution processability, these materials have attracted interest for application in solid‐state lighting. However, the reported quantum yields for white photoluminescence (PLQY) remain low (i.e., in the range 0.5–9%) and no approach has shown to successfully increase the intensity of this emission. Here, it is demonstrated that the quantum efficiencies of hybrid metal halides can be greatly enhanced if they contain a polymorph of the [PbX4]2? perovskite‐type layers: the [PbX4]2? post‐perovskite‐type chains showing a PLQY of 45%. Different piperazines lead to a hybrid lead halide with either perovskite layers or post‐perovskite chains influencing strongly the presence of self‐trapped states for excitons. It is anticipated that this family of hybrid lead halide materials could enhance all the properties requiring the stabilization of trapped excitons.  相似文献

A numerical model is proposed to compute one-dimensional open channel flows in natural streams involving steep, nonrectangular, and nonprismatic channels and including subcritical, supercritical, and transcritical flows. The Saint-Venant equations, written in a conservative form, are solved by employing a predictor-corrector finite volume method. A recently proposed reformulation of the source terms related to the channel topography allows the mass and momentum fluxes to be precisely balanced. Conceptually and algorithmically simple, the present model requires neither the solution of the Riemann problem at each cell interface nor any special additional correction to capture discontinuities in the solution such as artificial viscosity or shock-capturing techniques. The resulting scheme has been extensively tested under steady and unsteady flow conditions by reproducing various open channel geometries, both ideal and real, with nonuniform grids and without any interpolation of topographic survey data. The proposed model provides a versatile, stable, and robust tool for simulating transcritical sections and conserving mass.  相似文献

PURPOSE: Preoperative radiation with combined chemotherapy is effective in shrinking advanced rectal cancer locally and facilitating subsequent surgery. Suppository delivery of 5-fluorouracil is associated with less toxicity and higher rectal tissue concentrations than intravenous administration. This prompted us to evaluate suppository and intravenous administration of 5-fluorouracil and mitomycin C with concomitant radiation to determine associated toxicity. METHODS: Rectal, liver, lymph node, and lung tissue and systemic and portal blood were collected serially from male Sprague Dawley rats to determine drug concentrations following suppository or intravenous delivery of 5-fluorouracil or mitomycin C. Thirty-six animals were randomly assigned to treatment groups and received 5-fluorouracil suppositories, mitomycin C suppositories, or an equivalent intravenous dose of 5-fluorouracil or mitomycin C 30 minutes before radiation therapy. Before and 3, 6, 10, and 15 days following this treatment, blood was collected, colonoscopy was performed, and rectal tissue was harvested for histologic examination. RESULTS: Mitomycin C suppository was significantly less toxic compared with intravenous delivery, and higher rectal tissue concentrations were observed from 10 to 30 minutes (P < 0.05). Compared with intravenous 5-fluorouracil administration and radiation, 5-fluorouracil suppository and radiation resulted in additive myelosuppression at day 6 (P < 0.05) with rapid recovery. CONCLUSIONS: 5-Fluorouracil and mitomycin C suppository delivery combined with radiation causes less systemic toxicity and is more effective than intravenous administration.  相似文献

Children's understanding of their own cognitive skills, or metacognition, has been hypothesized to play a major role in learning and development. In this study, we examine the developing relation between children's metacognition and reading comprehension. Children in third- and fifth-grade classes were given an experimental curriculum, Informed Strategies for Learning (ISL), designed to increase their awareness and use of effective reading strategies. In both grades, children in experimental classes made significant gains in metacognition and the use of reading strategies compared with children in control classes. The multivariate profiles of reading skills derived from the developmental analyses helped to identify subgroups of children who responded differently to the metacognitive instruction. Although there were specific aptitude-by-treatment interactions, there was a general trend for metacognition and strategic reading to become more congruent from 8 to 10 years of age. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency and the characteristics of ADRs in 219 hospitalized pediatric patients, using an intensive and prospective drug surveillance method. The frequency of ADRs in these patients was 13.7%. The systems most commonly affected were the gastrointestinal (32.5%), the central nervous (20.0%), and the metabolic systems (17.5%). Asparaginase, methotrexate, phenytoin, phenobarbital, erythromycin, and salbutamol were probably the drugs associated with the ADRs. According to causality, 54.2% of the ADRs were regarded as probable, and 32.2% as possible. The majority of the ADRs were moderate (51.2%), 27.9% were severe. The main treatment of the ADRs was the withdrawal of the suspected drugs. The length of the stay in the hospital and the total number of drugs given to the patients influenced significantly the frequency of ADRs. 93% of the ADRs were dose-dependent.  相似文献
