The effect of oxygen and catalyst reduction temperature in enantioselective hydrogenation of 1-phenyl-1,2-propanedione over commercial Pt/Al2O3 catalyst was investigated. Dichloromethane was used as solvent. The catalyst was modified in situ with (−)-cinchonidine. Relatively high enantiomeric excesses (65%) of (R)-1-hydroxy-1-phenyl-2-propanone were obtained with the solvent used as received, i.e. containing traces of dissolved oxygen and other impurities. Dichloromethane dissociated partially on the Pt/Al2O3 surface causing desorption of methane, ethene and HCl from the catalyst during TPD according to mass spectrometric analysis. Under anaerobic conditions the reaction rate was low giving only about 40% enantiomeric excesses of (R)-1-hydroxy-1-phenyl-2-propanone. When injecting 5 mm3 of oxygen into the reactor a beneficial effect was observed (i.e. higher reaction rate and enantiomeric excess) in comparison with anaerobic conditions. Poisoning effect of oxygen was observed when injecting 500 mm3 of oxygen into the reactor. Effect of catalyst reduction temperature was studied at three different temperatures (170, 400 and 455°C). Highest reaction rates and enantiomeric excesses were obtained with the catalyst reduced at 400°C. Methane was desorbed from the catalyst at temperatures between 263 and 383°C which could be the explanation for the lower activity of the catalyst reduced at 170°C. It was demonstrated that small amounts of oxygen can have a beneficial effect in enantioselective hydrogenation of 1-phenyl-1,2-propanedione and also that catalyst reduction temperature plays an important role in obtaining high enantiomeric excesses.  相似文献

Recent studies of Cu, Zn superoxide dismutase, and of zinc-finger peptides have established that histidine ligands can be detected in ultraviolet resonance Raman (UVRR) spectra, following NH/D exchange of the imidazole. UVRR spectroscopy therefore offers promise for monitoring histidine ligation in heme proteins. In this work, we characterize heme-bound histidine UVRR bands for N-acetyl-microperoxidase-8 (MP-8) and microperoxidase-11 (MP-11), and also for hemoglobin (Hb). The Hb UVRR spectra are dominated by tyrosine and tryptophan contributions, but a band appears at 1340 cm−1 in D2O solution, which is assigned to a mode of Fe-bound imidazole. This band shifted 24 cm−1 in protein which was labeled with 15N via expression of the Hb gene in E. coli grown on 15NH4+. In MP-11, the position of this band is insensitive to ligation or oxidation state changes, but it is 2 cm−1 lower in deoxyHb than in the CO adduct. This shift may reflect mechanical forces on the proximal histidine in the T state, and/or changes in its H-bonding.  相似文献

Understanding the effect of conductivity in electrospinning solutions is crucial in order to improve or control the electrospinning process. In this paper the effect of adding small amounts (0.039–0.259 mol · kg?1) of three different conductive additives to aqueous solutions of polyvinyl alcohol has been investigated. The salts were HMICl (a room temperature ionic liquid), TEBAC (a quaternary ammonium salt) and KCl. Addition of these salts caused a steady increase in the solution conductivity but the fiber diameter was typically greater than that of PVA alone, and exhibited an oscillatory trend. The oscillatory trend on the fiber diameter is attributed to fiber backbuilding and fusion that occurs prior to deposition on the collector.

During childhood and adolescence, eating habits become established which are instrumental in determining eating behavior later in life. Various authors have described the acculturation of the Mapuche people toward Western culture. The objective of this study was to analyze the eating characteristics of indigenous and non-indigenous adolescent girls in the Araucania Region of Chile. A cross-sectional design was used with a probabilistic sample of 281 adolescents comprised of 139 indigenous and 142 non-indigenous girls attending 168 elementary schools. A modified food frequency questionnaire was applied, designed to obtain information about eating habits and consumption of Mapuche foods. The eating schedules are similar in both ethnic groups, with dinner being the meal that is least consumed. Total snack consumption per week has a mean of 7 with an interquartile range (IQR) of 5 to 10 without any differences between ethnic groups; of these snacks, only 2 were healthy (IQR = 1 to 3). The indigenous girls had a higher probability of consumption of native foods including mote (boiled wheat) (OR = 2.00; IC = 0.93-4.29), muday (fermented cereal alcohol) (OR = 3.45; IC = 1.90-6.27), and yuyo (field mustard) (OR = 4.40; IC = 2.06-9.39). The study's conclusion is that the the eating habits and behavior of indigenous adolescents are similar to those of non-indigenous girls, though the former still consume more indigenous foods.  相似文献

The focus of this work is the study of the thermal aging of high‐performance fibers used in the making of fire protective garments. Accelerated thermal aging tests were carried out on fabric samples made up of a blend of Kevlar® (poly p‐phenylene terephthalamide) and PBI (poly benzimidazole) staple fibers, as well as on yarns pulled from this fabric, by means of exposure to elevated temperatures, comprised between 190°C and 320°C. All samples underwent loss of breaking force retention. The material thermal life, defined as the time required for the fibers to attain a 50% reduction of the original breaking force, ranged between a dozen of days at the lowest exposure temperature, to less than an hour at the highest. Breaking force data were fitted using the Arrhenius model following two different approaches, namely the extrapolated thermal life value and the shift factors yielded by the time‐temperature superposition (TTS). The Arrhenius model seemed to describe appropriately the overall aging process, as inferred from the excellent fit obtained when using both approaches, although activation energies provided from both approaches are different. To follow the chemical evolution of the material with thermal aging, Fourier‐transform infrared (FTIR) analyses were conducted. The qualitative analysis of the FTIR spectra showed little evidence of chemical changes between the aged and the nonaged samples, indicating either that the aging process carries on without significant modification of the chemical structure of the fibers, or that FTIR is not an appropriate method to spot such a modification. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We studied the effect of epidermal leaf mining on the leaf chemistry of quaking aspen, Populus tremuloides, during an outbreak of the aspen leaf miner, Phyllocnistis populiella, in the boreal forest of interior Alaska. Phyllocnistis populiella feeds on the epidermal cells of P. tremuloides leaves. Eleven days after the onset of leaf mining, concentrations of the phenolic glycosides tremulacin and salicortin were significantly higher in aspen leaves that had received natural levels of leaf mining than in leaves sprayed with insecticide to reduce mining damage. In a second experiment, we examined the time course of induction in more detail. The levels of foliar phenolic glycosides in naturally mined ramets increased relative to the levels in insecticide-treated ramets on the ninth day following the onset of leaf mining. Induction occurred while some leaf miner larvae were still feeding and when leaves had sustained mining over 5% of the leaf surface. Leaves with extrafloral nectaries (EFNs) had significantly higher constitutive and induced levels of phenolic glycosides than leaves lacking EFNs, but there was no difference in the ability of leaves with and without EFNs to induce phenolic glycosides in response to mining. Previous work showed that the extent of leaf mining damage was negatively related to the total foliar phenolic glycoside concentration, suggesting that phenolic glycosides deter or reduce mining damage. The results presented here demonstrate that induction of phenolic glycosides can be triggered by relatively small amounts of mining damage confined to the epidermal tissue, and that these changes in leaf chemistry occur while a subset of leaf miners are still feeding within the leaf.  相似文献

Oleosome extractions from soybean flour typically generate significant quantities of aqueous sucrose- and sodium chloride-rich supernatant which could be recycled. To determine the feasibility of recycling the oleosome process aqueous supernatants, three extraction protocols were evaluated. The first extraction used the original extraction solution, 0.1 M fresh potassium acetate pH 4.6 containing 0.4 M sucrose and 0.5 M NaCl. The second protocol reused the aqueous supernatant obtained from the first extraction. The third protocol reused the aqueous supernatant obtained from the second protocol. Oleosome extraction yields were significantly higher in the first extraction with enzymes (Multifect® Pectinase FE, Multifect® GC, and Multifect® CX B, 1% each, v/w) compared to the yield when the supernatant was reused with no additional enzymes (81.41 ± 2.24 vs. 73.09 ± 3.39%, respectively). Oil yields from oleosome fractions were not statistically different when extractions were made with 0 or 3% enzymes in the third protocol. Protein was the predominant constituent in the supernatant in addition to mineral and carbohydrate. Soybean storage protein profile from recycled supernatants obtained without adding enzyme were similar to a traditional soy protein water extract but with a decrease of intensity of the β-conglycinin bands. Addition of 3% enzymes in both recycling protocols resulted in the disappearance of the α′ and α subunits of the β-conglycinin due to a protease contaminant in Multifect® Pectinase FE. Results from this work revealed essential information for a promising possibility of the future industrial application of this technology.  相似文献

Several studies have reported that nicotine, the main bioactive component of tobacco, exerts a marked negative energy balance. Apart from its anorectic action, nicotine also modulates energy expenditure, by regulating brown adipose tissue (BAT) thermogenesis and white adipose tissue (WAT) browning. These effects are mainly controlled at the central level by modulation of hypothalamic neuropeptide systems and energy sensors, such as AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK). In this study, we aimed to investigate the kappa opioid receptor (κOR)/dynorphin signaling in the modulation of nicotine’s effects on energy balance. We found that body weight loss after nicotine treatment is associated with a down-regulation of the κOR endogenous ligand dynorphin precursor and with a marked reduction in κOR signaling and the p70 S6 kinase/ribosomal protein S6 (S6K/rpS6) pathway in the lateral hypothalamic area (LHA). The inhibition of these pathways by nicotine was completely blunted in κOR deficient mice, after central pharmacological blockade of κOR, and in rodents where κOR was genetically knocked down specifically in the LHA. Moreover, κOR-mediated nicotine effects on body weight do not depend on orexin. These data unravel a new central regulatory pathway modulating nicotine’s effects on energy balance.  相似文献

This review paper deals with the overall crystallization behavior of polyethylene/wax blends as phase change materials (PCMs) for thermal energy storage with the determination of their thermal properties. The addition of molten wax to the polyethylenes decreases the crystallization and melting temperatures of the blends. However, incorporating fillers to the polyethylene/wax blends can either decrease or increase the crystallization and melting temperatures of the composites depending on the filler type. The normalized enthalpy values of linear low-density polyethylene showed no significant change when increasing the wax content. On the contrary, the normalized enthalpy values of the wax in the blends were lesser than that of pure wax and increased with increasing wax content. Since the wax in the blend had a lower crystallinity compared to pure wax, this influences its effectiveness as a PCM for thermal energy storage. The effect of different polyethylenes on the wax morphology gave rise to enhance phase separation when wax was blended to high-density polyethylene as compared to the other polyethylenes. On the contrary, the effect of various waxes on the morphology of polyethylene resulted in different morphologies due to the molecular weight of the wax used and the structure of the polyethylene chain. The addition of fillers to the polyethylene (PE)/wax samples resulted in enhanced phase separation. The overall isothermal crystallization rate and the equilibrium melting temperature of PEs in the PEs/wax blends were depressed by wax addition due to the wax dilution effect.  相似文献
