Outcomes of this empirical study demonstrated that executive coaching is an effective method of leadership development. One hundred fourteen executives and 42 coaches were surveyed using instruments designed to gather both quantitative and qualitative data. Results indicated that executive change occurred in 5 areas: people management, relationships with managers, goal setting and prioritization, engagement and productivity, and dialogue and communication. This study also highlights the importance of coach selection, executive commitment to behavioral change, and the role of good program and environmental support. The success of this coaching program also suggests that investment in well-designed and implemented programs can contribute to leadership development and the retention of talent. Meat tenderness is the main characteristic demanded by consumers and is affected by rigor mortis development and proteolysis activities, both of which occur during carcass refrigeration. In this work, we demonstrate that broiler breast fillet tenderness can be further increased and its extension depends on whether or not meat is excised from the carcass. Post-harvest samples taken from 0 to 72 h after slaughtering and kept refrigerated at 2 ± 2 °C were evaluated for tenderness by myofibrillar fragmentation index determination, shear force analysis and sensorial testing. The 24 h post-harvested intact samples were 30.6% more tender than excised samples and 41.7% more tender than control samples (p ? 0.05). The myofibrillar fragments index was 13.2% higher in intact samples than in deboned fillet (p ? 0.05) and a sensory test showed that the 24 h intact samples were of major acceptability. Our results demonstrated that tenderness was best achieved with intact breast fillet samples stored at 2 ± 2 °C for 24 h. 相似文献

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neuroinflammatory and neurodegenerative disease with unknown etiology that can be characterized by the presence of demyelinated lesions. Prevailing treatment protocols in MS rely on the modulation of the inflammatory process but do not impact disease progression. Remyelination is an essential factor for both axonal survival and functional neurological recovery but is often insufficient. The extracellular matrix protein fibronectin contributes to the inhibitory environment created in MS lesions and likely plays a causative role in remyelination failure. The presence of the blood–brain barrier (BBB) hinders the delivery of remyelination therapeutics to lesions. Therefore, therapeutic interventions to normalize the pathogenic MS lesion environment need to be able to cross the BBB. In this review, we outline the multifaceted roles of fibronectin in MS pathogenesis and discuss promising therapeutic targets and agents to overcome fibronectin-mediated inhibition of remyelination. In addition, to pave the way for clinical use, we reflect on opportunities to deliver MS therapeutics to lesions through the utilization of nanomedicine and discuss strategies to deliver fibronectin-directed therapeutics across the BBB. The use of well-designed nanocarriers with appropriate surface functionalization to cross the BBB and target the lesion sites is recommended. 相似文献

Examined the relationship between self-evaluation of movement imagery and performance under the standard format of the water-level (WL) and plumb-line (PL) tasks by evaluating a possible connection between vividness of such imagery and a propensity to spontaneously infer that stimuli are either still or moving when making the drawings. 126 female and 69 male college students (aged 17–45 yrs) were submitted either to the modified, static presentation of the WL task or to the standard, dynamic format using both upright and tilted positions. Ss were also submitted to corresponding PL tasks requiring verticality representation. In addition, they rated the vividness of their movement imagery. Women's proficiency was not higher under the static format of the WL and PL tasks. However, as expected, men's achievement was independent from presentation format. Men surpassed women under both static and dynamic formats. Finally, performance was not correlated with movement imagery. Systemic Sclerosis (SSc) is a chronic autoimmune disease with high morbidity and mortality. Autologous Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (AHSCT) is the best therapeutic option for rapidly progressive SSc, allowing increased survival with regression of skin and lung fibrosis. The immune determinants of the clinical response after AHSCT have yet to be well characterized. In particular, the pivotal role of the Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) system is not well understood, including the role of non-classical immuno-modulatory HLA-E and HLA-G molecules in developing tolerance and the role of Natural Killer cells (NK) in the immunomodulation processes. We retrospectively tested whether the genetic and/or circulating expression of the non-classical HLA-E and HLA-G loci, as well as the imputed classical HLA determinants of HLA-E expression, influence the observed clinical response to AHSCT at 12- and 24-month follow-up. In a phenotypically well-defined sample of 46 SSc patients classified as clinical responders or non-responders, we performed HLA genotyping using next-generation sequencing and circulating levels of HLA-G and quantified HLA-E soluble isoforms by ELISA. The -21HLA-B leader peptide dimorphism and the differential expression level of HLA-A and HLA-C alleles were imputed. We observed a strong trend towards better clinical response in HLA-E*01:03 or HLA-G 14bp Del allele carriers, which are known to be associated with high expression of the corresponding molecules. At 12-month post-AHSCT follow-up, higher circulating levels of soluble HLA-E were associated with higher values of modified Rodnan Skin Score (mRSS) (p = 0.0275), a proxy of disease severity. In the non-responder group, the majority of patients carried a double dose of the HLA-B Threonine leader peptide, suggesting a non-efficient inhibitory effect of the HLA-E molecules. We did not find any correlation between the soluble HLA-G levels and the observed clinical response after AHSCT. High imputed expression levels of HLA-C alleles, reflecting more efficient NK cell inhibition, correlated with low values of the mRSS 3 months after AHSCT (p = 0.0087). This first pilot analysis of HLA-E and HLA-G immuno-modulatory molecules suggests that efficient inhibition of NK cells contributes to clinical response after AHSCT for SSc. Further studies are warranted in larger patient cohorts to confirm our results. 相似文献

Hafnium oxide (HfOx)‐based memristive devices have tremendous potential as nonvolatile resistive random access memory (RRAM) and in neuromorphic electronics. Despite its seemingly simple two‐terminal structure, a myriad of RRAM devices reported in the rapidly growing literature exhibit rather complex resistive switching behaviors. Using Pt/HfOx/TiN‐based metal–insulator–metal structures as model systems, it is shown that a well‐controlled oxygen stoichiometry governs the filament formation and the occurrence of multiple switching modes. The oxygen vacancy concentration is found to be the key factor in manipulating the balance between electric field and Joule heating during formation, rupture (reset), and reformation (set) of the conductive filaments in the dielectric. In addition, the engineering of oxygen vacancies stabilizes atomic size filament constrictions exhibiting integer and half‐integer conductance quantization at room temperature during set and reset. Identifying the materials conditions of different switching modes and conductance quantization contributes to a unified switching model correlating structural and functional properties of RRAM materials. The possibility to engineer the oxygen stoichiometry in HfOx will allow creating quantum point contacts with multiple conductance quanta as a first step toward multilevel memristive quantum devices. 相似文献

Creative professionals search for music to accompany moving images in films, advertising, television. Some larger music rights holders (record companies and music publishers) organise their catalogues to allow online searching. These digital libraries are organised by various subjective musical facets as well as by artist and title metadata. The purpose of this paper is to present an analysis of written queries relating to creative music search, contextualised and discussed within the findings of text analyses of a larger research project whose aim is to investigate meaning making in this search process. A facet analysis of a collection of written music queries is discussed in relation to the organisation of the music in a selection of bespoke search engines. Subjective facets, in particular Mood, are found to be highly important in query formation. Unusually, detailed Music Structural aspects are also key. These findings are discussed in relation to disintermediation of this process. It is suggested that there are barriers to this, both in terms of classification and also commercial/legal factors. 相似文献

Type traits and mammary health traits are important to dairy ruminant breeding because they influence animal health, milking ability, and longevity, as well as the economic sustainability of farms. The availability of the genomic sequence and a single nucleotide polymorphism chip in goats has opened up new fields of investigation to better understand the genes and mechanisms that underlie such complex traits and to be able to select them. Our objective was to perform a genome-wide association study in dairy goats for 11 type traits and somatic cell count (SCC) as proxies for mastitis resistance. A genome-wide association study was implemented using a daughter design composed of 1,941 Alpine and Saanen goats sired by 20 artificial insemination bucks, genotyped with the Illumina GoatSNP50 BeadChip (Illumina Inc., San Diego, CA). This association study was based on both linkage analyses and linkage disequilibrium using QTLmap software (http://dga7.jouy.inra.fr/qtlmap/) interval mapping was performed with the likelihood ratio test using linear regressions. Breeds were analyzed together and separately. The study highlighted 37 chromosome-wide significant quantitative trait loci (QTL) with linkage analyses and 222 genome-wide significant QTL for linkage disequilibrium, for type and SCC traits in dairy goats. Genomic control of those traits was mostly polygenic and breed-specific, suggesting that within-breed selection would be favored for those traits. Of note, Capra hircus autosome (CHI) 19 appeared to be highly enriched in single nucleotide polymorphisms associated with type and SCC, with 2 highly significant regions in the Saanen breed. One region (33–42 Mb) was significantly associated with SCC and includes candidate genes associated with response to intramammary infections (RARA, STAT3, STAT5A, and STAT5B). Another region of the CHI 19 (24.5–27 Mb) exhibited an adverse pleiotropic effect on milk production (milk, fat yield, and protein yield) and udder traits (udder floor position and rear udder attachment) that agreed with the negative genetic correlations that exist between those 2 groups of traits. These QTL were not found in the Alpine breed. In Alpine, the 2 most significant regions were associated with chest depth on CHI 6 (45.8–46.0 Mb) and CHI 8 (80.7–81.1 Mb). These results will be helpful for goat selection in the future and could lead to identification of causal mutations. 相似文献
