Forty years ago carbohydrates (CHO) were regarded as a simple energy source whereas they are now recognized as important food components. The human diet contains a wide range of CHO, the vast majority of which are of plant origin. Modern techniques based on chemical classification of dietary CHO replaced the traditional "by difference" measurement. They provide a logical basis for grouping into categories of specific nutritional importance. The physiological effects of dietary CHO are highly dependent on the rate and extent of digestion and absorption in the small intestine and fermentation in the large intestine, interactions which promote human health. Current knowledge of the fate of dietary CHO means that the potentially undesirable properties of many modern foods could be altered by using processing techniques that yield foods with more intact plant cell wall structures. Such products would more closely resemble the foods in the pre-agriculture diet with respect to the rate of digestion and absorption of CHO in the small intestine. The potentially detrimental physiological consequences of eating sugars and starch that are rapidly digested and absorbed in the small intestine suggest that, as fibre, the form, as well as the amount of starch should be considered. Increasing consumer awareness of the relationship between diet and health has led to demands for more widespread nutrition labelling. The entry "carbohydrate" is required in most countries, and the value is usually obtained "by difference" and used in the calculation of energy content. However, the value provides no nutritional information per se. Food labels should provide values that aid consumers in selecting a healthy diet. 相似文献

Flexible automotive coatings are susceptible to scratch and mar damage, especially during finishing and assembly operations.
One-component (1K) flexible clearcoats exhibit very good scratch and mar resistance, but unfortunately suffer from poor durability
and environmental etch resistance. Two-component clearcoats offer improvements in both etch and durability, but at the expense
of scratch and mar. In this paper, the concept and properties of 1K flexibilized silane clearcoats for use on automotive plastics
will be introduced and their structure/property relationships examined as they apply to scratch and mar.
The role of coating crosslink density, toughness, glass transition temperature (Tg), and surface profile on the scratch damage of coated plastic substrates will be described. In addition, a new scratch methodology,
termed Scratcho, is utilized to determine relative scratch performance and is compared to conventional scratch resistance
testing. Results to date indicate that hardness, as affected by the glass transition temperature, and crosslink density, as
it contributes to higher essential work values, both affect resultant scratch propensity of the flexible coatings. The relative
ranking of different coating systems employing alternate crosslinkers (e.g., isocyanate and melamine) is also presented and
compared to the newly developed silane crosslinked coatings.

The threefold absorption in the fundamental absorption region of the ternary chalcopyrite AgGa7Se12, an ordered defect compound of AgGaSe2, is analyzed to elucidate the three closely spaced band gaps in its valence band due to the lifting of degeneracy of the Γ15 level. Hopfield’s quasi cubic model is employed to extract the crystal-field and spin–orbit splitting parameters and the linear hybridisation of orbitals model for evaluating the percentage contribution of Ag d-orbital and Ga and Se p-orbitals to the p–d hybridization of orbitals. The observed optical properties are correlated with the structural parameters like deformation parameter, anion displacement and anion–cation bond lengths that are deduced from X-ray diffraction data. The compound films for the studies are prepared by a modified form of Gunther’s three temperature technique and the compositional analysis was done by energy dispersive analysis of X-rays. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy confirms the compound formation while atomic force microscopic technique was used for surface morphological analysis. The electrical resistivity of these n-type semi-conducting films is assessed to be ~5 Ωm and the films are found to be photosensitive. 相似文献

The sulfiding of Mo/Al2O3 in H2S/Ar versus in H2S/H2 has been studied by temperature-programmed sulfiding (TPS), X-ray photon electron spectroscopy (XPS), extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS), and temperature-programmed desorption of NO (NO-TPD). All the applied techniques agree on the sulfur content in the sulfided catalysts and the findings are in accord with a model for the H2S production reaction. The nucleation and growth of well-ordered MoS2 clusters are probed by XPS during sulfiding with and without the presence of hydrogen. The resulting dispersion of the MoS2 phase is evaluated on the basis of XPS, EXAFS, and NO-TPD, and is found to be highest when the sulfiding occurs in the presence of hydrogen. 相似文献

The structure and biological activities of two disulphide isomersof a C-region deletion mutant of insulin-like growth factor-I(IGF-I) which has an AsnGly link engineered at the junctionof the A- and B-regions were studied before and after chemicalcleavage. Circular dichroism (CD) spectra and binding affinityto IGF binding protein 3 (IGFBP3) indicated that the treatmentwith hydroxylamine did not disrupt the overall tertiary foldof the hormones. Cleavage restored some binding affinity forthe IGF-I receptor in both isomers and weakly restored the abilityto stimulate incorporation of tritiated thymidine into DNA inNIH 3T3 fibroblasts transfected with the human IGF-I receptor.Cleavage also restored metabolic capacity, as measured by theability of the isomers to promote lipogenesis in isolated ratadipocytes through the insulin receptor. These results are consistentwith the theory that binding of IGF-I to the IGF-I receptorrequires a conformational change similar to that involved ininsulin binding the insulin receptor. The weak affinity forthe IGF-I receptor after cleavage is consistent with the beliefthat residues in the C-region interact with the IGF-I receptor.This structural difference between insulin and IGF-I gives eacha higher binding affinity for its own receptor. 相似文献

The effects of oxidation/reduction regeneration treatments, with and without 1,2-dichloropropane present as a chlorinating agent, on the structure of Pt(3%)–Sn(4.5%)/Al2O3 catalysts have been correlated with selectivities for butane/H2 reactions. Particles of Pt0 fin Cl-free catalysts were partly covered by Sn0, but retained exposed ensembles of Pt atoms which were active for isomerisation, hydrogenolysis and dehydrogenation reactions, the latter becoming dominant at high reaction temperatures. Coking reduced Pt ensemble size and, hence, also favoured high selectivities for dehydrogenation as hydrogenolysis and isomerisation sites became poisoned. In contrast, the addition of 1,2-dichloropropane in an oxychlorination step before reduction promoted 1:1 Pt0–Sn0 alloy formation after reduction, the proportion of the total Pt in alloy being enhanced by increasing 1,2-dichloropropane concentration and oxychlorination temperature. The alloy surfaces were inactive for isomerisation and hydrogenolysis reactions, giving dehydrogenation as the sole catalytic reaction. 相似文献

Butyl rubber–strontium cerium titanate (BS) composites have been prepared by hot pressing. The tensile tests show that the BS composites are flexible. The dielectric properties of the composites have been investigated at 1 MHz and 5 GHz as a function of ceramic contents. The composite with volume fraction 0.43 of ceramic filler has a dielectric constant (εr) of 11.9 and dielectric loss (tan δ) 1.8 × 10?3 at 5 GHz. The measured values of εr are compared with the effective values calculated using different theoretical models. The thermal conductivity of the composites is found to increase with ceramic contents and reaches a value of 4.5 Wm?1 K?1 for maximum filler loading 0.43 volume fraction. The coefficient of thermal expansion of the composites decreases gradually with filler loading and reaches a minimum value of 30.2 ppm °C?1 at a volume fraction 0.43. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. RuII-arene complexes provide a versatile scaffold for novel anticancer drugs. Seven new RuII-arene-thiocarboxylato dimers were synthesized and characterized. Three of the complexes ( 2 a , b and 5 ) showed promising antiproliferative activities in MDA-MB-231 (human invasive breast cancer) cells, and were further tested in a panel of fifteen cancerous and noncancerous cell lines. Complex 5 showed moderate but remarkably selective activity in MDA-MB-231 cells (IC50=39±4 μm Ru). Real-time proliferation studies showed that 5 induced apoptosis in MDA-MB-231 cells but had no effect in A549 (human lung cancer, epithelial) cells. By contrast, 2 a and b showed moderate antiproliferative activity, but no apoptosis, in either cell line. Selective cytotoxicity of 5 in aggressive, mesenchymal-like MDA-MB-231 cells over many common epithelial cancer cell lines (including noninvasive breast cancer MCF-7) makes it an attractive lead compound for the development of specifically antimetastatic Ru complexes with low systemic toxicity. 相似文献

There is a widely used linear strategy to determine the parameters specific cake resistance and filter medium resistance in incompressible cake filtration. In this article, it is intended to demonstrate that this strategy has some disadvantages and should be replaced by an alternative nonlinear approach which yields more exact results. Even though the gains in precision are small for most cases, the nonlinear strategy is favored because it involves no extra effort and is grounded in the same physical theory as the original approach. This claim is based on a broad simulation study using noisy data with known parameter values to compare both fitting strategies and judge their accuracies. 相似文献
