Reaction of Al metal with water is a well-known technique for large scale production of hydrogen. However, this method suffers from kinetic limitations due to formation of a passivation layer on Al, preventing optimal operations. Using high resolution Scanning Kelvin Probe Force Microscopy (SKPFM), we show the origin of formation of 'nano-galvanic couple' on in situ formed nano-aluminum amalgam surfaces in a water splitting system; passivation based limitations are completely bypassed in this approach. Furthermore, they offer an opportunity to beneficiate and recover mercury in contaminated water. The nano-galvanic corrosion due to substantial lateral variation in surface contact potential is responsible for the observed high throughput of hydrogen production (720 mL/min per 0.5 g Al salt). It may be noted that this process fares better than in situ prepared nano-Al based hydrogen production, wherein 600 mL/min of hydrogen is obtained for 0.5 g Al salt. Investigations using Cyclic Voltammetry (CV) and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) provide evidence for passivation-bypassed hydrolysis and favourable kinetics for in situ derived nano-AlHg hydrolytic agents (when compared to nano-Al). This study, to the best of our knowledge, reports the first direct proof of nano-galvanic couple formation on in-situ prepared nanoaluminum amalgam surface; paving a direct way to overcome the long standing passivation problem in Al hydrolysis. It is found that the hydrogen production rate and standard deviation (SD) of the contact potential of nanoaluminum amalgam are directly related to the rate of addition of the reducing agent, offering an opportunity for kinetic control for the in situ hydrolytic process. 相似文献

This paper presents the tensile response of thin-walled composite tubes with multi-axial fibre architecture. A hybrid braid-wound layup has the potential to optimise the composite tube properties, however, stacking sequence plays a role in the failure mechanism. A braid-winding method has been used to produce stacked overwound braid layup [(±45°/0°)5/90°4]T. Influence of stacking sequence on premature failure of hoop layers has been reported. Under tensile loading, a cross-ply composite tube with the alternate stacking of hoop and axial fibre show hoop plies splitting similar to the overwound braided composite tube. However, splitting has been restricted by the surrounding axial plies and contained between the adjacent axial fibre tows. This observation suggests hoop layers sandwiched between braid layers will improve structural integrity. A near net shape architecture with three fibre orientation in a triaxial braid will provide additional support to prevent extensive damage for plies loaded in off-axis. Several notable observations for relatively open braid structures such as tow scissoring, high Poisson’s ratio and influence of axial tow crimp on the strain to failure have been reported. The objective of this research was to study the performance and emission characteristics of using waste plastic pyrolysis oil in diesel engine without any engine modification. Sequential anodic and cathodic pulse voltages were applied on anodised Al micro-electrodes in alkaline silicate electrolyte to explore the role of cathodic pulse in AC or bipolar plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) process. SEM observation was carried out to observe the sites of anodic and cathodic breakdown and their morphologies. The prior anodic breakdown accelerated the cathodic breakdown at ?50 V, and the acceleration was associated with the preferential cathodic breakdown at the anodic breakdown sites. However, the succeeding anodic breakdown during applying anodic pulse of 420 V for 2 ms was highly suppressed at the cathodic breakdown sites. This would randomise the anodic breakdown sites. Such role may contribute to the formation of rather uniform coatings on aluminium in this electrolyte without large discharge channels when larger cathodic current is applied with respect to the anodic current in AC PEO. 相似文献

Niobium consumable electrodes of 10?mm dia?×?50?mm length were prepared by cold isostaic pressing with compaction pressure of 125?C250?MPa. The compacts were sintered under vacuum at different temperatures in the range of 1000?C1800?oC. The CIPed and sintered electrodes were characterized with respect to chemical analysis, density, microstructure and bend strength. The results showed that there is a marginal improvement in density at a sintering temperature in the range of 1000?C1400?oC, while a significant improvement in density was observed at sintering temperature in the range of 1600?C1800?oC. The bend strength of sintered electrode was found to increase with increasing sintering temperature and that attains a highest value at a sintering temperature in the range of 1600?C1800?oC. Sintering at a temperature higher than 1400?oC leads to decrease in oxygen content of the electrodes. The oxygen content was decreased from 2000 to 500?ppm when electrode was sintered at 1800?oC. 相似文献

Chryseobacterium meningosepticum is an uncommon human pathogen, which is an inhabitant of soil and water. It should be included in the list of suspected nosocomial infections, especially in patients with immunocompromised status. C. meningosepticum infections are not common but are clinically important because the organism is naturally resistant to multiple antibiotics. We report a case where the bacterium was isolated from the pleural fluid from a chronic kidney disease patient on hemodialysis, who developed pneumonia with complicated parapneumonic effusion. In this paper, a combination of methods based on statistical modelling and Non-negative Matrix Factorization (NMF) for speech enhancement using speech and noise bases with on-line update is proposed. Template-based approaches are known to be more robust in the presence of non-stationary noises than methods based on statistical modeling. However, template-based approaches depend on a-priori information. The drawbacks of both the approaches can be avoided by combining them. In NMF approach, speech bases and noise bases are simultaneously adapted to further improve the performance. The proposed method outperforms other benchmark algorithms in terms of perceptual evaluation of speech quality (PESQ) and source-to-distortion ratio (SDR) in stationary and non-stationary noise environment conditions with matched and mismatched noise basis. 相似文献
