A series of Mg–Zr catalysts with varying Mg to Zr ratios was prepared by co-precipitation method. These catalysts were characterized by BET surface area, X-ray diffraction, X-ray photo electron spectroscopy and temperature programmed desorption of CO2. The catalytic activity of these catalysts was evaluated for the room temperature transesterification of both edible and non-edible oils to their corresponding fatty acid methyl esters. The catalyst with Mg/Zr (2:1 wt./wt.%) exhibited exceptional activity towards transesterification reaction within short reaction time. The effects of different reaction parameters such as catalyst to oil mass ratio, reaction temperature, reaction time and methanol to oil molar ratio were studied to optimize the reaction conditions. The reasons for the observed activity of these catalysts are discussed in terms of their basicity and other physico-chemical properties.  相似文献

The collapse of the World Trade Center Towers and other recent fires in tall buildings has motivated this study to understand the performance of structural frames under fire loading. Three two-storey, two-bay composite steel frames were constructed and subjected to dead loads by applying weight blocks, and to thermal load by placing the frame in a furnace. The furnace was specially designed to allow for controlled heating of the structural elements that formed the four compartments of the test frame. This paper describes the experimental results of furnace test conducted on the three full-scale composite frames. The three tests differed from each other in the number and location of compartments that were heated by the furnace. For each test, the structural elements were subjected to a heating-up phase followed by a cooling-down phase. The furnace temperatures and the steel and concrete temperatures recorded during the test are presented. The thermally induced horizontal displacements of the columns and vertical deflections of the composite beams are discussed. Observations on local buckling of the steel beam, cracking of the concrete slab and failure of the beam-to-column connections are tabulated. Experimental results of the three tests are compared with each other by studying the complete deformation process of the test frames over time. Results indicate that the deformation process of the test frames was highly dependent on the number and location of compartments that were subjected to thermal loading.  相似文献

This study examined the in vitro cell-material interactions on four different types of titanium surfaces: a polished Ti surface, TiO2 nanotube surfaces fabricated in a fluorinated glycerol solution (TN), fluorinated glycerol solution with 1 wt% anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulphate (TN-SDS), and fluorinated glycerol solution with 1 wt% cationic surfactant cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (TN-CTAB), respectively. The surfaces exhibited distinct surface morphologies and geometrical features. Surface energy calculation shows that TN surface enhances the hydrophilic character by significantly increasing the surface energy. The osteoblast cell growth behavior on the four different surfaces was examined using the MC3T3-E1 cell line for 1 day. When the anodized surfaces were compared for the cell-materials interaction, each of the surfaces showed different properties that affected the cell–material interactions. Proliferation of the cells was noticed with distinctive cell-to-cell attachment on the TN surfaces. Good cellular adhesion with extracellular matrix extensions between the cells was noticed in the TN samples. The TiO2 nanotubes grown in the surfactant-assisted fluorinated electrolyte did not show significant cell growth on the surface and some cell death was observed. The cell adhesion, differentiation and alkaline phosphatase activity were more pronounced on the TN surface. The MTT assays also revealed an increase in living cell density and proliferation on the TN surfaces. Overall, a rough surface morphology and surface energy are important factors for better cell material interactions.  相似文献

The influence of alloying on the ignition and flammability was studied. One end of a cylindrical specimen was exposed to a free diffusion flame. Ignition required at least partial melting. Burning extinguished once the flame was withdrawn. Specimen tips of pure Mg, AZ61, and AZ91 ignited upon prolonged flame exposure. There was smouldering and delayed ignition for Mg-1Y. There was no ignition for Mg-5Y specimen tips, attributed to a protective surface oxide containing Y. The results indicate that (i) vigorous burning requires a continued supply of Mg vapour, and (ii) a critical alloy concentration is required to change ignition behaviour.  相似文献

An increase in the number of hydrogen-fueled applications in the marketplace will require a better understanding of the potential for fires and explosion associated with the unintended release of hydrogen within a structure. Predicting the temporally evolving hydrogen concentration in a structure, with unknown release rates, leak sizes and leak locations is a challenging task. A simple analytical model was developed to predict the natural and forced mixing and dispersion of a buoyant gas released in a partially enclosed compartment with vents at multiple levels. The model is based on determining the instantaneous compartment over-pressure that drives the flow through the vents and assumes that the helium released under the automobile mixes fully with the surrounding air. Model predictions were compared with data from a series of experiments conducted to measure the volume fraction of a buoyant gas (at 8 different locations) released under an automobile placed in the center of a full-scale garage (6.8 m × 5.4 m × 2.4 m). Helium was used as a surrogate gas, for safety concerns. The rate of helium released under an automobile was scaled to represent 5 kg of hydrogen released over 4 h. CFD simulations were also performed to confirm the observed physical phenomena. Analytical model predictions for helium volume fraction compared favorably with measured experimental data for natural and forced ventilation. Parametric studies are presented to understand the effect of release rates, vent size and location on the predicted volume fraction in the garage. Results demonstrate the applicability of the model to effectively and rapidly reduce the flammable concentration of hydrogen in a compartment through forced ventilation.  相似文献

In this work the field emission studies of a new type of field emitter, zinc oxide (ZnO) core/graphitic (g-C) shell nanowires are presented. The nanowires are synthesized by chemical vapor deposition of zinc acetate at 1300 °C Scanning and transmission electron microscopy characterization confirm high aspect ratio and novel core–shell morphology of the nanowires. Raman spectrum of the nanowires mat represents the characteristic Raman modes from g-C shell as well as from the ZnO core. A low turn on field of 2.75 V/μm and a high current density of 1.0 mA/cm2 at 4.5 V/μm for ZnO/g-C nanowires ensure the superior field emission behavior compared to the bare ZnO nanowires.  相似文献

In this study composites were produced using extrusion followed by injection molding with alkali and ultrasound treated oil palm empty fruit bunch (EFB) fibers with poly(lactic acid). The fiber content, alkali solution concentration, exposing time and treatment temperature were optimized. The optimized EFB fibers were treated with hyper branched polyester solution. The composites were characterized by tensile testing, impact testing, scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry and Fourier transformation infra-red spectroscopy. A significant increase in mechanical and interfacial properties was found for composites due to simultaneous alkali and ultrasound treatment.  相似文献

A statistical Box–Behnken design of experiments was performed to evaluate the effects of individual operating variables and their interactions on the acrylonitrile (AN) removal of C0 = 100 mg/L as fixed input parameter. The variables examined in this study included activated carbon‐granular (AC) dosage, w, temperature, T, and time of contact, t. The significant variables and optimum conditions were identified (w = 4 g/L, T = 30°C, and t = 120 min with AN uptake of 23.97 mg/g of AC) from statistical analysis of the experimental results using response surface methodology (RSM).  相似文献

High incidences of graft failure and graft-versus-host disease in the recipients of bone marrow transplantations (BMT) from unrelated donors (URD) may reflect the existence of allelic disparities between the patient and the URD despite apparent HLA identity at HLA-A, HLA-B, and HLA-DRB1 loci. To identify the extent and pattern of allelic disparities at HLA-A and HLA-B loci, 128 patients and 484 potential URD were evaluated by DNA typing. DNA typing for HLA-A, HLA-B, and HLA-DRB1 was performed at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. HLA-A and HLA-B serotyping on URD was provided by the registries. By original typing (serology for HLA-A and HLA-B; DNA typing for DRB1) 187, 164, and 133 URD were 6/6, 5/6, and 4/6 matches, respectively. Following DNA typing, however, only 52.9% of the originally 6/6 matched URD remained 6/6, while 38.5%, 7.5%, and 1.1% were found to be 5/6, 4/6, and 3/6 matches. The level of disparity was higher in the originally 5/6 (P <.01) and 4/6 (P <.01) matched URD. A higher level of disparity was seen for HLA-B as compared to HLA-A. In addition, a serotype related variation was also noticed. For example, 24.1% of HLA-A2 and 60.1% of HLA-B35 seromatched URD were genotypically disparate, but no disparities were seen for HLA-A1 and HLA-B8. A higher percentage of HLA-A (67. 4%) compared with HLA-B (35.4%) serologic homozygous URD remained genotypically homozygous (P =.01). The level of allelic disparity was lower (P <.01 for 6/6; P =.02 for 5/6) if the patient had one of the 15 most common haplotypes (A1B8DR3, A2B7DR15, A3B7DR15, etc) in comparison to the rest of the group. Outcome studies will answer the question whether these disparities are associated with a higher rate of immunological complications seen with URD-BMT.  相似文献

An on-the-fly algorithm for model checking under fairness is presented. The algorithm utilizes symmetry in the program to reduce the state space, and employs novel techniques that make the on-the-fly model checking feasible. The algorithm uses state symmetry and eliminates parallel edges in the reachability graph. Experimental results demonstrating dramatic reductions in both the running time and memory usage are presented.  相似文献
