An elevated coupled coplanar waveguide is proposed and analyzed with a view to exploit the advantage of miniaturization that is possible with elevated coplanar waveguide structures. The influence of elevation on the directional characteristics of the elevated coupled coplanar waveguide has also been studied. The role of inner-layer (interphase) in fiber-reinforced composites is often assessed by measuring the interfacial shear strength of single fibers embedded in matrix blocks. Interfacial shear strength is calculated using simple shear lag analyses (Kelly and Tyson model). This paper shows that application of Kelly and Tyson's equation may result in gross overprediction of interfacial shear strengths if the thickness of the inner-layer is not negligible in comparison with the fiber diameter.  相似文献

Shrimp oil is extracted from shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) cephalothorax and subjected to the removal of cholesterol by β‐cyclodextrin (βCD). Different oil/βCD ratios (1:2, 1:3, and 1:4, w/w) and homogenization times (1, 10, and 20 min) are used. Cholesterol deduction is attained with increasing βCD levels and homogenization time. Astaxanthin content is augmented, while cholesterol concentration is reduced. Nevertheless, oil yield and astaxanthin concentration of treated oil are decreased as βCD levels are increased. To increase the oil yield, the used βCD is further extracted for three times with ethyl acetate at 1:10 (w/v) ratio, in which yield is increased from 44.6% to 64%. Cholesterol removal of 95% is obtained, while astaxanthin content is increased. Lipid oxidation is lowered as indicated by the lower TOTOX value, peroxide value, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances, and p‐anisidine value. However, lipid hydrolysis is slightly increased after treatment. Volatiles, especially aldehydes and alcohols, are decreased after treatment. FTIR spectra confirm the removal of phospholipid, which might be associated with the decreased oil yield after treatment. With the developed process, total fatty acid is increased by 15.6%, in which monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA) and polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) are augmented. βCD could remove cholesterol, increase astaxanthin and fatty acid content. Practical Applications: Shrimp oil has been known to be a rich source of astaxanthin and PUFAs with health benefit. However, it also contains cholesterol, which can be a drawback for consumption as the supplement. The removal of cholesterol, while maintaining PUFA and astaxanthin could pave a way for promoting the intake of shrimp oil. Use of βCD for oil treatment with subsequent extraction of remaining oil in the used βCD could be implemented with ease. Another advantage of the developed process is to increase both fatty acid and astaxanthin contents in the resulting oil. As a consequence, shrimp oil with lowered cholesterol can be directly used as food ingredient and also for neutraceutical purpose.  相似文献

Aspergillus species are ubiquitous environmental moulds, with spores inhaled daily by most humans. Immunocompromised hosts can develop an invasive infection resulting in high mortality. There is, therefore, a pressing need for host-centric therapeutics for this infection. To address it, we created a multi-scale computational model of the infection, focused on its interaction with the innate immune system and iron, a critical nutrient for the pathogen. The model, parameterized using published data, was found to recapitulate a wide range of biological features and was experimentally validated in vivo. Conidial swelling was identified as critical in fungal strains with high growth, whereas the siderophore secretion rate seems to be an essential prerequisite for the establishment of the infection in low-growth strains. In immunocompetent hosts, high growth, high swelling probability and impaired leucocyte activation lead to a high conidial germination rate. Similarly, in neutropenic hosts, high fungal growth was achieved through synergy between high growth rate, high swelling probability, slow leucocyte activation and high siderophore secretion. In summary, the model reveals a small set of parameters related to fungal growth, iron acquisition and leucocyte activation as critical determinants of the fate of the infection.  相似文献

This study evaluated the efficacy of ultrasound treatment and nano-zinc oxide (ZnO) coating individually and in combination in preserving the quality of fresh-cut kiwifruit. The nano-ZnO coating solution was prepared by mixing the ZnO nanoparticles in premixed chitosan–acetic acid solution. The fresh-cut kiwifruit were dipped in NaClO solution (50 μL?L?1 sodium, control), subjected to ultrasound treatment (40 KHz, 350 W, 10 min), or coated with nano-ZnO solution. The fresh-cut kiwifruit samples were also subjected to combined ultrasound treatment and nano-ZnO coating. All of these test samples were stored at 4 °C for 10 days. The effects of these treatments on the quality parameters such as the production of carbon dioxide and ethylene, mass loss, and flesh firmness were investigated. At the end of storage, the combination treatments with ultrasound treatment at 40 KHz with 1.2 g?L?1 nano-ZnO coating showed lower production of ethylene (1.86 μL?kg?1?h?1) and carbon dioxide (10.01 mg?kg?1?h?1), water loss (0.46 %), and texture (7.87 N). Hence, it was concluded that the combination of ultrasound treatment with nano-ZnO coating is a promising approach to extend the shelf-life of fresh-cut kiwifruit.  相似文献

Gum karaya and gum kondagogu are the two important commercial tree gums of India. The amino acids and fatty acid profiles of gum kondagogu and gum karaya were investigated by preparing their corresponding N-O-bis(trimethylsilyl)trifluoroacetamide (BSTFA) derivatives for amino acids and direct trans-esterification of methyl esters for fatty acids and their subsequent analysis by a GC–MS method. The amino acids, such as, alanine, valine, methionine, tyrosine and tryptophan, were not detected in gum karaya as they were in gum kondagogu. Interestingly, the aspartic acid content (72.8 ± 3.45 μg/g) of gum kondagogu was higher than that of gum karaya (64.2 ± 2.44 μg/g). The ratios of saturated to unsaturated fatty acid in gum kondagogu and gum karaya were found to be 5:1, and 6.6:1, respectively. Among the unsaturated fatty acids, linoleic acid (1.8 ± 0.12 μg/g) and γ-linolenic acid (0.8 ± 0.05 μg/g) were detected only in gum kondagogu. Arachidic acid was not detected in gum karaya. Additionally, the presence of linoleic acid and γ-linolenic acid in gum kondagogu reinforces its nutritional value.  相似文献

The mode of adsorption of oleic acid (OA) (0.05 M), triglyceride (TG) (0.05 M) and phosphatidylcholine (PC) (0.5 mM) from hexane solution onto 0.5 g of an acid-activated bleaching clay was investigated using diffuse reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. OA was mostly weakly adsorbed by bound water, with some OA adsorbed to silanol sites through carboxyl carbonyl groups. TG was hydrogen- bonded to surface silanol groups through ester carbonyl groups. The CH2 stretches indicated that TG was oriented perpendicular or at an angle to the surface. PC phosphate groups were bound by the surface moisture with little interaction with silanol groups. The adsorption mechanism of these lipids contrasts with the adsorption of carotenoid and chlorophyll under the same conditions. These pigments are bound by chemisorption, with catalytic modification often occurring before adsorption.  相似文献

The photocatalytic production of H2 using carbon-doped TiO2 (CTiO2) nanoparticles has been investigated in single or mixed systems of organic fatty acids (OFAs) under visible light irradiation, including acetic acid, propionate acid, butyric acid and lactic acid. When OFAs were applied at the same electron density (10 e-eq L?1), the H2 evolution rates followed the order of propionic acid > butyric acid ≈ acetic acid > lactic acid, whereas at the same molar concentration (0.5 mol L?1), that order changed to lactic acid > acetic acid > butyric acid ≈ propionic acid. This result implied that the electron transfer efficiency differed from four OFAs, probably due to their different affinity with CTiO2. O2?? and CH3? partially contributed to OFAs degradation and H2 production. The quantum dynamics simulations of electron transfer revealed that the dominant mechanism of H2 production was direct electron transfer from adsorbed OFAs to CTiO2. This work aims to pursue the synergy of solar energy utilization and conversion of OFAs into H2.  相似文献

NCO‐terminated polyurethane membranes were prepared using diisocyanate, diol, and trimethylolpropane (TMP) using an NCO/OH ratio of 1.6 : 1. Prepolymer was chain‐extended using cellulose acetate butyrate (CAB) in the ratios of 2 : 1, 4 : 1, and 3 : 1 of NCO/OH. Polyurethane (PU) membranes were characterized by differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and thermogravimetry (TGA) to investigate their thermal properties. Equilibrium sorption studies were carried out at 30°C in water and ethyl acetate media as well as in their binary mixtures. The influence of CAB on pervaporation (PV) separation of an ethyl acetate/water (92/8, w/w, i.e., azeotropic composition) mixture was investigated. Membranes in this study showed a selectivity of 42.42 with a flux value of 0.187 kg/m/h for 3 : 1% NCO/OH containing PU membrane. In order to gain a more detailed picture of the molecular transport phenomenon, we performed the sorption gravimetric experiments at 30°, 35°, 40°, and 50°C to compute diffusion, swelling, sorption, and permeability coefficients of PU membranes in the azeotropic mixture of ethyl acetate and water. Activation parameters for diffusion and permeation were computed from the Arrhenius equation to understand the polymer/solvent interactions. Sorption trends and diffusion anomalies were established through an empirical equation after estimating the diffusion parameters. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
