The effects of composition and interface modification on the tensile properties and the impact resistance of different woodflour/polypropylene composites (WPC) were studied. The woodflour was treated with vinyltrimethoxy silane as a coupling agent, and its effect on the WPC properties was examined. In addition, the tensile data were fitted with several semiempirical models to clarify the mechanical behavior of the composites. The Pukánszky parameters obtained from the fit of the tensile strength data revealed that the distribution of the filler was more homogeneous in the composites containing silane and that interaction between components was improved. The impact strength was maximal for the composites containing 30% of silane‐treated woodflour. Morphological analysis by SEM revealed that the woodflour tended to form agglomerates when present in relatively high amounts in the formulations. For the silane‐treated composites, the dispersion of the filler into the polypropylene (PP) matrix improved, although surface treatment blocked the inclusion of PP into the wood cells. This probably decreased the elastic moduli, even when the filler‐matrix interaction was improved. The beneficial effects of the coupling agent on the WPC properties were greater in the materials containing a relatively low amount of filler (up to 30%); the effectiveness of 0.5% and 1% organosilane were very similar, demonstrating the effectiveness of the coupling agent. Endometriosis is a common gynecological disorder that has been associated with endometrial, breast and epithelial ovarian cancers in epidemiological studies. Since complex diseases are a result of multiple environmental and genetic factors, we hypothesized that the biological mechanism underlying their comorbidity might be explained, at least in part, by shared genetics. To assess their potential genetic relationship, we performed a two-sample mendelian randomization (2SMR) analysis on results from public genome-wide association studies (GWAS). This analysis confirmed previously reported genetic pleiotropy between endometriosis and endometrial cancer. We present robust evidence supporting a causal genetic association between endometriosis and ovarian cancer, particularly with the clear cell and endometrioid subtypes. Our study also identified genetic variants that could explain those associations, opening the door to further functional experiments. Overall, this work demonstrates the value of genomic analyses to support epidemiological data, and to identify targets of relevance in multiple disorders. 相似文献

Alkaline phosphatase (EC 3.1.3.1) extracted from Escherichia coli ATCC27257 was immobilised by co‐flocculation with soil humates in the presence of Ca2+. The effects of time, temperature, pH and concentration of enzyme and support on immobilisation were studied. Between 58 and 92% of the added phosphatase was strongly bound to the humates, depending on the conditions of immobilisation used. Some characteristics of the humate–phosphatase complexes and of the free enzyme were compared. The enzymatic complexes showed values of Km (2.22 mM ) and activation energy (33.4 kJ mol?1) similar to those of the free enzyme (2.00 mM and 27.6 kJ mol?1). The pH/activity profiles revealed no change in terms of shape or optimum pH (10.5) upon immobilisation of alkaline phosphatase. However, the immobilised enzyme showed maximal activity in the range of 80–100 °C, while the free enzyme had its highest activity at 60 °C. The thermal stability of alkaline phosphatase was enhanced by complexation to the soil humates. © 2003 Society of Chemical Industry 相似文献

Nowadays, we are living in a time of important technological changes that affect our lives at home and our communication with the outside world. Among them, the developments in Interactive Digital TV (IDTV) and the smart home field can be considered as particularly important. Related to the former, the new Set‐Top Boxes (STBs) are not only a decoder for digital television broadcast but also an entry point to the Information Society and a suitable platform to support the execution of interactive applications. With regards to the latter, the Residential Gateways (RGs) combine different network technologies to allow the connection of different electronics devices and appliances at home, not only with each other but also with the Internet. Since there is no widespread consensus about the configurations and functions of the RGs, we propose to coordinate the two aforementioned worlds by extending the functionality of STBs to become a RG. Our proposal consists of merging the Multimedia Home Platform (MHP), one of the main standard frameworks for IDTV, with Open Service Gateway Initiative (OSGi), the most widely used open platform to set up RGs. To overcome the radically different nature of these specifications—the function‐oriented MHP middleware and the service‐oriented OSGi framework—we define a new kind of application, coined as XbundLET. This application is able to bridge the gap between the two frameworks and make their interaction feasible. We also show how this proposal has the potential to enable the production of scenarios that cannot currently be put into practice in a natural way. Copyright © 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. 相似文献

This study evaluates the quality of sausage obtained from the meat of Nellore cattle fed diets containing different levels (0, 5, 10, and 15 g per kg total DM) of lauric acid (C12:0) from palm kernel cake. A linear reduction (p ≤ 0.05) in lipid oxidation, as reflected by linear decreases in the lightness (L*), yellowness (b*), and saturation (C*) color parameters, is observed on days 7, 14, and 21 of maturation of sausage, and these decreases are accompanied by linear increases in the redness (a*) color and the linoleic (C18:2n–6) and linolenic (C18:3n–3) fatty acid contents. The inclusion of lauric acid in the diet induces linear reductions in the shear force and cooking loss and does not significantly affect various indices, including the centesimal composition, water activity, water holding capacity, composition of most fatty acids (FA), hypocholesterolemic‐to‐hypercholesterolemic FA ratio, atherogenicity, thrombogenicity, and desirable fatty acids. The use of dietary lauric acid from palm kernel cake is recommended at doses up to 15 g per kg because its presence reduces lipid oxidation and improves color parameters, softness, and linoleic and linolenic FA without affecting the FA composition of sausage from Nellore bull's meat. Practical applications : Sausages are products manufactured from chopped or ground meats packaged into animal casings. This product appeared in Brazil through the adaptation of traditional recipes brought by German and Italian immigrant families to weather conditions and the national palate. However, due to its production characteristics, sausage can become a product with lipid characteristics that are undesirable for human consumption. The inclusion of lauric acid (C12:0) in the animal diet might change the biohydrogenation process in the rumen, improve the quality of the deposited FA and reduce lipid oxidation in sausage manufactured from meat. The FA composition and physicochemical properties of sausage predict its acceptance by the consumer market. An optimal advantage would be achieved if these products can be used as not only preservatives but also functional ingredients with antioxidant properties and products for the treatment of metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular diseases through atherogenic action. 相似文献

Purpose: The present study evaluated the influence of the hyaluronic acid (HA) on the bonding ability of self-adhesive resin cements to dentin regarding the bond strength. Eighty bovine incisors were ground flat to obtain a 2-mm thick slices which received conical preparations. The specimens were randomly distributed into 4 groups (n = 15) according to the dentin pretreatment (1 – control: untreated dentin; 2 – application of HA) and the evaluation time (1 – control: immediate evaluation; 2 – hydrolytic degradation: 6 months of storage in water at 37 °C). Preparations received the application of a self-adhesive resin cement (RelyX U200 or MaxCem Elite). Push-out bond strength test was conducted (0.5 mm/min). The bond strength data was submitted to two-way ANOVA/Tukey’s test (α = 0.05). For U200, no significance was observed when comparing the immediate (24 h) and 6 months means for the control groups (unexposed specimens). Previous application of HA to dentin significantly reduced the bond strength of U200 to dentin in both evaluation times (p < 0.05). HA had no significant influence on the push-out bond strength means for the cement MAX in both evaluation times (p > 0.05). The type 1 failure mode (adhesive mode) occurred in 100% of the specimens, irrespective of the dentin treatment or evaluation times. Pretreatment of dentin with HA produces a material-dependent influence on the push-out bond strength. The bonding ability of RelyX U200 is negatively influenced by the pretreatment of dentin with HA, whereas the biomodification of dentin with this bioactive agent causes no impact for the cement MaxCem Elite. 相似文献

We report the preparation of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) hydrogels obtained through freezing-thawing cycles. The viscoelastic properties of these gels using parallel-plate shear mode were evaluated as a function of temperature, time, degree of swelling, concentration and the number of freezing-thawing cycles. The storage modulus was analyzed on the basis of a theoretical model based on the scaling approach. These results provide additional evidence for a non-crystalline nature of the structure of PVA cryogels.Furthermore, PVA ferrogels have been prepared from PVA aqueous solutions and a ferrofluid through freezing-thawing cycles. The viscoelastic properties of these materials have been evaluated. It is shown that the variation of the storage modulus with ferrofluid concentration cannot be fitted using classical theories what has been attributed to the small dimensions of the particles in the ferrogels and to the magnetic interactions between particles. 相似文献

Type 2 diabetes mellitus patients are at significant risk of cardiovascular disease, however, the pathophysiology of these complications is complex and incompletely known in this population. The aim of this study was to compare the serum proteome of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus presenting or not presenting cardiovascular disease with non-diabetic subjects to find essential proteins related to these cardiovascular complications. This cross-sectional study compares the serum proteome by a combination of protein depletion with 2D-DIGE (2-dimension Difference Gel Electrophoresis) methodology. The proteins differentially expressed were identified by MALDI TOF/TOF (Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization and Time-Of-Flight ion detector) or LC-MS/MS (Liquid Chromatography coupled to Mass-Mass Spectrometry). Type 2 diabetes mellitus patients with cardiovascular disease showed higher expression of plasma retinol binding protein and glutathione peroxidase-3 compared to those without cardiovascular disease and non-diabetic controls. These results show that proteins related to the inflammatory and redox state appear to play an important role in the pathogenesis of the cardiovascular disease in the type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. 相似文献
