Environmentally friendly and sustainable processes for the production of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) gain increasing attention. Biocatalytic synthesis routes with enzyme cascades support many stated green production principles, for example, the reduced need for solvents or the biodegradability of enzymes. Multi-enzyme reactions have even more advantages such as the shift of the equilibrium towards the product side, no intermediate isolation, and the synthesis of complex molecules in one reaction pot. Despite the intriguing benefits, only a few enzyme cascades have been applied in the pharmaceutical industry so far. However, several new enzyme cascades are currently being developed in research that could be of great importance to the pharmaceutical industry. Here, we present multi-enzymatic reactions for API synthesis that are close to an industrial application. Their performances are comparable or exceed their chemical counterparts. A few enzyme cascades that are still in development are also introduced in this review. Economic and ecological considerations are made for some example cascades to assess their environmental friendliness and applicability.  相似文献

This paper describes methods for explanatory and illustrative visualizations used to communicate aspects of Einstein's theories of special and general relativity, their geometric structure, and of the related fields of cosmology and astrophysics. Our illustrations target a general audience of laypersons interested in relativity. We discuss visualization strategies, motivated by physics education and the didactics of mathematics, and describe what kind of visualization methods have proven to be useful for different types of media, such as still images in popular science magazines, film contributions to TV shows, oral presentations, or interactive museum installations. Our primary approach is to adopt an egocentric point of view: the recipients of a visualization participate in a visually enriched thought experiment that allows them to experience or explore a relativistic scenario. In addition, we often combine egocentric visualizations with more abstract illustrations based on an outside view in order to provide several presentations of the same phenomenon. Although our visualization tools often build upon existing methods and implementations, the underlying techniques have been improved by several novel technical contributions like image-based special relativistic rendering on GPUs, special relativistic 4D ray tracing for accelerating scene objects, an extension of general relativistic ray tracing to manifolds described by multiple charts, GPU-based interactive visualization of gravitational light deflection, as well as planetary terrain rendering. The usefulness and effectiveness of our visualizations are demonstrated by reporting on experiences with, and feedback from, recipients of visualizations and collaborators.  相似文献

Layered silicate‐incorporated polyamide 6 (PA6) nanocomposites were studied to undertake correlations between morphological, rheological, permeability, and mechanical characteristics. The microstructure of nanocomposite specimens was seen through X‐ray diffraction, atomic force microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy measurements. In addition, impact, tensile, and permeability data were analyzed combining the theoretical and experimental analyses to draw a convincing conclusion on the state of exfoliation and intercalation of layered silicates throughout the PA6 matrix. The results provided support for the fact that introduction of silicate nanofiller brings about some advantages like higher impact and modulus, at the same time some drawbacks arising from the improper dispersion of nanoplatelets. It was also revealed that microscopic studies do not necessarily agree with each other regarding filler dispersion state. The correlations between microstructure and experimental data from mechanical and permeability tests were checked by some well‐established theoretical models. The trends in the test results were somewhat dependent on the state of filler dispersion. The role of the crystalline areas in achieving higher permeability resistance was also discussed, in a short review, to be comprehensively discussed in a future work. J. VINYL ADDIT. We identified, synthesized, and field-tested the sex pheromone of female red cedar cone midge Mayetiola thujae (Hedlin) (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae), a pest insect in red cedar Thuja plicata seed orchards. Coupled gas chromatographic (GC)-electroantennographic detection analyses of pheromone extract revealed three components (A, B, C) that elicited responses from antennae of males, all of which occurred below the detection threshold of the mass spectrometer and thus had to be identified without spectroscopic data. Taking into account (1) their retention indices (RI) on three GC columns (DB-5, DB-23, and DB-210), (2) intercolumn RI differentials, and (3) the molecular structures of known cecidomyiid pheromones, we synthesized seven candidate pheromone components: 2,10-, 2,11-, 2,12-, 2,13-, 2,14-, 2,15- and 2,16-diacetoxyheptadecanes. Of these, 2,12-, 2,13-, and 2,14-diacetoxyheptadecane had RIs on all columns consistent with those of A, B, and C and elicited strong antennal responses when tested at picogram levels. In field experiments with the twelve stereoselectively synthesized stereoisomers, only the SS-stereoisomers of 2,12-, 2,13-, and 2,14-diacetoxyheptadecane attracted male M. thujae. The three-component SS-stereoisomer blend was more attractive than the 12-component blend of all stereoisomers, suggesting that one or several nonnatural stereoisomers are inhibitory. One-, two-, and three-component lures of the SS-stereoisomers were equally effective in attracting male M. thujae, indicating redundancy in the pheromone. Identification of the M. thujae sex pheromone will allow development of pheromone-based monitoring, and possibly control, of M. thujae populations in T. plicata seed orchards.  相似文献

Hollow silica–polyelectrolyte composite nanoparticles were prepared using templates of spherical polyelectrolyte brushes which consist of a polystyrene (PS) core and a densely grafted linear poly(acrylic acid) shell. The obtained hollow particles were systematically studied by small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) in combination with other characterization methods such as transmission electron microscopy and dynamic light scattering. The hollow structure formed by dissolving the PS core was confirmed by the reduction of electron density to zero in the cavity through fitting SAXS data. SAXS revealed both the inward and outward expansions of the hollow silica–polyelectrolyte composite particles upon increasing pH from 3 to 9, while further increasing pH led to the partial dissolution of silica layer and even destruction of the hollow structure. SAXS was confirmed to be a unique and powerful characterization method to observe hollow silica nanoparticles, which should be ideal candidates for controlled drug delivery.  相似文献

The rheological behavior of particle/oil suspensions and w/o Pickering emulsions consisting of water, 1‐dodecene and different fumed silica nanoparticles was investigated. The particles varied in hydrophobicity and specific surface area. The influence of particle concentration and water content on rheology was determined and the emulsion drop size distributions were examined. Emulsions with different drop sizes were created by either varying the particle concentration or the water content. It was found that the particles in the continuous oil phase and not the drop size distribution seem to be the major influencing factor on the Pickering emulsion rheology.  相似文献
