A comparative investigation of ultrafine particle number and mass emissions from a fleet of on-road diesel and CNG buses 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1

Particle number, particle mass, and CO2 concentrations were measured on the curb of a busy urban busway used entirely by a mix of diesel and CNG operated buses. With the passage of each bus, the ratio of particle number concentration and particle mass concentration to CO2 concentration in the diluted exhaust plume were used as measures of the particle number and mass emission factors, respectively. With all buses accelerating pastthe monitoring point, the results showed that the median particle mass emission from CNG buses was less than 9% of that from diesel buses. However, the median particle number emission from CNG buses was 6 times higher than the diesel buses, and the particles from the CNG buses were mainly in the nanoparticle size range. Using a thermodenuder to remove the volatile material from the sampled emissions showed that the majority of particles from the CNG buses, but not from the diesel buses, were volatile. Approximately, 82% of the particles from the CNG buses and 38% from the diesel buses were removed by heating the emissions to 300 degrees C. 相似文献

1. This study examines the effects of exercise training and chronic ethanol consumption on cholinesterase activity and its relationship to lipid peroxidation in blood and brain regions of rat. 2. Exercise training (6.5 weeks) decreased acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity significantly (64% of control) in hypothalamus and increased AChE activity in cerebral cortex (149% of control), whereas, malondialdehyde (MDA) levels increased in hypothalamus (129% of control) and decreased in cortex, striatum, and cerebellum (50%, 69% and 75% of control), respectively. 3. Chronic ethanol ingestion (2.0 gm/kg, p.o. for 6.5 weeks) significantly increased butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE) activity in plasma (136% of control) and decreased AChE activity in hypothalamus (63% of control), whereas, MDA levels increased in hypothalamus, cortex, and plasma (140%, 130% and 220% of control), respectively. 4. The combination significantly increased BuChE activity (173% of control) in plasma and decreased AChE activity (71% of control) in hypothalamus and (57% of control) in cerebellum, whereas, MDA levels increased in hypothalamus, cerebellum, medulla and plasma (134%, 128%, 140% and 309% of control), respectively. 5. Exercise training, chronic ethanol ingestion, and combination selectively inhibited hypothalamic AChE and the inhibition was correlated with increased lipid peroxidation (r = 0.11, 0.41 and 0.45) which may perturb hypothalamic function. A new expiratory droplet investigation system (EDIS) was used to conduct the most comprehensive program of study to date, of the dilution corrected droplet size distributions produced during different respiratory activities.Distinct physiological processes were responsible for specific size distribution modes. The majority of particles for all activities were produced in one or more modes, with diameters below 0.8 μm at average concentrations up to 0.75 cm?3. These particles occurred at varying concentrations, during all respiratory activities, including normal breathing. A second mode at 1.8 μm was produced during all activities, but at lower concentrations of up to 0.14 cm?3.Speech produced additional particles in modes near 3.5 and 5 μm. These two modes became most pronounced during sustained vocalization, producing average concentrations of 0.04 and 0.16 cm?3, respectively, suggesting that the aerosolization of secretions lubricating the vocal chords is a major source of droplets in terms of number.For the entire size range examined of 0.3–20 μm, average particle number concentrations produced during exhalation ranged from 0.1 cm?3 for breathing to 1.1 cm?3 for sustained vocalization.Non-equilibrium droplet evaporation was not detectable for particles between 0.5 and 20 μm, implying that evaporation to the equilibrium droplet size occurred within 0.8 s. 相似文献
