Calculated butt coupling efficiency between a GaAlAs double heterostructure laser and a single-mode LiNbO3Ti-diffused optical waveguide is presented in this paper as a function of the transverse displacement, the angular alignment, the longitudinal separation between the laser and the waveguide end surfaces, the radiation field of the laser diode and its dependence on the laser diode structure, and the mode profile of the waveguide and its dependence on experimental diffusion parameters. The maximum efficiency is less than 40 percent because of the mismatch between the waveguide mode and the laser radiation, caused primarily by the experimental limitations in their structures. The effect of the reflection of the waveguide end surface on the laser oscillation has also been estimated.  相似文献

Interactions of Ni0.60Nb0.40 amorphous alloys with polycrystalline overlayers of gold and copper and single-crystal substrates of silicon. GaAs and GaP were observed with Auger depth profiling. The Ni-Nb layer was deposited by r.f. sputtering and was approximately 5000 Å thick. The overlayers were evaporated to a thickness of 1000 Å. The amorphous metal reacted with the gold overlayers and the GaAs and GaP substrates at temperatures well below the nominal crystallization temperature of 650 °C. The Cu/Ni-Nb/Si system, in contrast, was stable at 600 °C for at least 1 h. Samples were also measured that had been contaminated with approximately 5–10 at.% O. Complete separation of the niobium and nickel into distinct layers was seen. For the samples on silicon substrates this separation was accompanied by the formation of a nickel silicide layer.  相似文献

Exogenous retinoic acid (RA) administered during mouse embryogenesis can alter the pattern of the axial skeleton during two developmental periods: an early window (7 to 8.5 days post-coitum; dpc) and a late window (9.5 to 11.5 dpc). Treatment during the early window results in vertebral homeotic transformations (predominantly posteriorizations) concomitant with rostral shifts in Hox gene expression, while treatment at the later window results in similar transformations without detectable alterations in Hox gene expression patterns. Mice null for retinoic acid receptor gamma (RAR gamma) exhibit axial defects, including homeosis of several vertebrae, therefore establishing a role for this receptor in normal axial specification RAR gamma null mutants are also completely resistant to RA-induced spina bifida, which occurs in wildtype embryos treated at 8.5-9.0 dpc, suggesting that this receptor specifically transduces at least a subset of the teratogenic effects of retinoids. To further investigate the role of RAR gamma in RA-induced defects during the early and late windows of retinoid-sensitive vertebral patterning, RAR gamma heterozygotes were intercrossed, pregnant females treated with vehicle or RA at 7.3, 10.5 or 11.5 dpc and full-term fetuses assessed for skeletal defects. Relative to wildtype littermates, RAR gamma null mutants treated at 7.3 dpc were markedly resistant to RA-induced embryolethality, craniofacial malformations, and neural tube defects. Furthermore, while RAR gamma null mutants were modestly resistant to certain vertebral malformations elicited by RA treatment at 7.3, they exhibited more pronounced resistance following treatment at 10.5 and 11.5 dpc. Moreover, several of the vertebral defects inherent to the RAR gamma null phenotype were abolished by RA treatment specifically at 10.5 dpc, suggesting that RAR alpha and/or RAR beta isoforms may substitute for certain RAR gamma functions, and that RAR gamma may elicit its normal effects on vertebral morphogenesis at this developmental stage.  相似文献

This case demonstrates failure of root canal treatment of a maxillary central incisor following incomplete mechanical removal of a Ca(OH)2 intracanal dressing and subsequent resorption of the material from the apical portion of the root canal. Retreatment some 4 years later involved the removal of the contents of the root canal and permanent obturation by lateral condensation of cold gutta-percha with a sealer. Follow-up showed complete periradicular bone healing with a lamina dura evident. An explanation of the processes involved is offered, based upon histopathological and microbiological evidence in the literature.  相似文献

Two types of electron traps, donor-like and acceptor-like, are created in the gate oxide of metal-oxide-semiconductor capacitors by Fowler–Nordheim electron injections. Electrical properties (areal density, capture cross-section, centroid) of each type of trap are determined by using the avalanche electron injection method and by combining capacitance–voltage and current–voltage measurements. These properties are measured with regard to the Fowler–Nordheim fluence up to breakdown and for both injection modes (electrons injected either from the gate or from the substrate of capacitors).  相似文献

Burkholderia pseudomallei is the causative agent of melioidosis, a disease increasingly recognized as an important cause of morbidity and mortality in many regions of the world. B. pseudomallei is a facultative intracellular pathogen capable of invading eukaryotic cells. We used Tn5-OT182 mutagenesis to generate mutants deficient in the ability to invade a human type II pneumocyte cell line (A549 cells). One of these mutants, AJ1D8, exhibited approximately 10% of the ability of the parental strain, 1026b, to invade A549 cells. There was no difference in the abilities of 1026b and AJ1D8 to resist killing by RAW macrophages or the human defensin HNP-1. The nucleotide sequence flanking the Tn5-OT182 integration in AJ1D8 was determined, and two open reading frames were identified. The predicted proteins shared considerable homology with two-component regulatory systems involved in the regulation of heavy-metal resistance in other organisms. AJ1D8 was 16-fold more sensitive to Cd2+ and twofold more sensitive to Zn2+ than was 1026b but was not sensitive to any of the other heavy metals examined. The B. pseudomallei two-component regulatory system, termed irlRS, complemented the invasion-deficient and heavy-metal-sensitive phenotype of AJ1D8 in trans. There was no significant difference between the virulence of AJ1D8 and that of 1026b in infant diabetic rats and Syrian hamsters, suggesting that the irlRS locus is probably not a virulence determinant in these animal models of acute B. pseudomallei infection.  相似文献

Standards which eliminate ambiguity in reporting nonlinear phenomena, especially in the increasingly complex realm of biaxial crystals, are proposed. In order to restore uniformity to the designation of crystallographic axes and crystal tensor properties, adoption of IEEE/ANSI Std. 176, with a small but much needed modification for crystal class mm2, is recommended. For the reporting of nonlinear interaction characteristics, other frames are proposed which result in simpler rules than heretofore given for categorizing phase-matching loci, and for characterizing eigenmode polarizations, double refraction, effective nonlinear coupling, and first- and second-order acceptance bandwidths (angular, spectral, thermal) along these loci.
