In this paper a realistic directional channel model that is an extension of the COST 273 channel model is presented. The model uses a cluster of scatterers and visibility region generation based strategy with increased realism, due to the introduction of terrain and clutter information. New approaches for path-loss prediction and line of sight modeling are considered, affecting the cluster path gain model implementation. The new model was implemented using terrain, clutter, street and user mobility information for the city of Lisbon, Portugal. Structure and microstructure of yttria thin films grown by electron beam physical vapour deposition on a stationary Si (111) substrate at room temperature (RT), 500° and 700 °C, were investigated by the grazing-incidence X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy, respectively. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy provided information on the surface contamination from the atmosphere and the Y oxidation state. A strong effect of the deposition temperature and the vapour flux incidence angle was found. The film deposited at RT is polycrystalline with very fine grains of the body-centered cubic (bcc) crystallographic symmetry. An increase of deposition temperature results in a rapid growth of bcc grains with an improved crystalline structure. Moreover, the based-centered monoclinic phase appears for the deposition temperature of 700 °C. Preferred grain orientation (texture) with two main components, (400) and (622), was observed in the films deposited at 500 °C whereas no texture was found for 700 °C. The microstructure exhibits the columnar feather-like structure of different degrees of perfection which can be explained by the shadowing effects caused by an oblique vapour flux incidence angle. Surface morphology of the films is governed by a combination of the triangular and four-sided (square) columns. All films were found to be dense with a little porosity between the columns. 相似文献

The sticking effect between hydrophilic surfaces occurring at increasing relative humidity (RH) is an everyday phenomenon with uncountable implications. Here experimental evidence is presented for a counterintuitive monotonous decrease of the capillary adhesion forces between hydrophilic surfaces with increasing RH for the whole humidity range. It is shown that this unexpected result is related to the actual shape of the asperity at the nanometer scale: a model based on macroscopic thermodynamics predicts this decrease in the adhesion force for a sharp object ending in an almost flat nanometer-sized apex, in full agreement with experiments. This anomalous decrease is due to the fact that a significant growth of the liquid meniscus formed at the contact region with increasing humidity is hindered for this geometry. These results are relevant in the analysis of the dynamical behavior of nanomenisci. They could also have an outstanding value in technological applications, since the undesirable sticking effect between surfaces occurring at increasing RH could be avoided by controlling the shape of the surface asperities at the nanometric scale. 相似文献

The fracture and fatigue behaviour of prototype automotive pistons produced in an aluminium alloy matrix composite in industrial
conditions has been studied. Fracture toughness increased when the testing temperature rose from 20° to 75°C and kept near
constant up to 250°C, when a significantly lower value was recorded. A change in the failure operating mechanism, which can
explain this trend, was observed by analysing the fracture surfaces in the scanning electron microscope. Room temperature
fatigue tests performed with R = 0.1 stress ratio led to an average value of the Paris law exponent higher than those reported in aluminium alloys but low
for an industrially produced brittle composite. A higher exponent and a much larger scattering were observed in those fatigue

BACKGROUND: Bacteriocins produced by lactic acid bacteria offer enormous promise for food safety preservation. In this study an active multilayer film obtained by the incorporation of lactocin 705 and lactocin AL705, two bacteriocins produced by Lactobacillus curvatus CRL705 with antimicrobial activity against Lactobacillus plantarum CRL691 and Listeria innocua 7, respectively, was characterized for its potential application in active packaging technology. Film activity performance at different storage conditions, bacteriocins transfer into water and sunflower oil, and film surface properties were evaluated. RESULTS: Film activity against L. innocua 7 was maintained during 2, 4 and 6 weeks at 30, 10 and 5 °C respectively. At 30 and 10 °C, activity loss against L. plantarum CRL691 was observed on the second week of storage and after the fourth week at 5 °C. Results showed no significant difference for active multilayer film contact angle and seal properties compared to the control (without bacteriocins). A decrease in lactocin 705 inhibitory activity after sunflower oil contact was observed, while lactocin AL705 remained unaffected. After water contact, film activity was retained for both bacteriocins. CONCLUSIONS: As demonstrated by antimicrobial activity and physico‐mechanical properties retention, lactocin 705 and AL705 active multilayer film present potential for application in active packaging technology. Ultraviolet (UV)-C treatments are a promising technology for liquid food pasteurization as an alternative to heat treatments. However, the design of efficient UV reactors to reduce pertinent microorganisms and comply with current food safety goals is still an engineering challenge due to the low penetration depth of UV light in liquid foods with high UV absorbance and suspended particles, and the variations in the residence time of the product in the UV reactors. This review focuses on physical aspects of UV radiation related to the essential product and processing parameters for the design of UV reactors. Honey legislation has been addressed to establish the minimum marketing level of the product and the need for consumer protection through correct denominations. Research oriented toward assessment of floral origin and physicochemical properties may increase the commercial value of these products. The characteristics of thirty‐one honeys produced in the Entre‐Douro e Minho region in Portugal were studied. Pollen features and some physicochemical parameters (moisture, ash, pH, free acidity, electrical conductivity, hydroxymethylfurfural contain, apparent sucrose, reducing sugars and diastase activity) were determined. The samples were found to meet international honey specifications. The present study found a linear regression between the ash content of honeys and their specific conductivity. Five samples are listed as Eucalyptus honey, one sample as Citrus honey, and twenty‐five samples as multifloral honeys. Of the total, 87.1% exceeded the quality parameters and should be labelled as ‘virgin’ honey. 相似文献

Ethylene is a plant hormone controlling a wide range of physiological processes in plants. During postharvest storage of fruit and vegetables ethylene can induce negative effects including senescence, over-ripening, accelerated quality loss, increased fruit pathogen susceptibility, and physiological disorders, among others. Apart from the endogenous ethylene production by plant tissues, external sources of ethylene (e.g. engine exhausts, pollutants, plant, and fungi metabolism) occur along the food chain, in packages, storage chambers, during transportation, and in domestic refrigerators. Thus, it is a great goal in postharvest to avoid ethylene action. This review focuses on tools which may be used to inhibit ethylene biosynthesis/action or to remove ethylene surrounding commodities in order to avoid its detrimental effects on fruit and vegetable quality. As inhibitors of ethylene biosynthesis and action, good results have been found with polyamines and 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) in terms of maintenance of fruit and vegetable quality and extension of postharvest shelf-life. As ethylene scavengers, the best results can be achieved by adsorbers combined with catalysts, either chemical or biological (biofilters). 相似文献
