We present a canonical form for a natural and necessary generalization of the Lambert W function, natural in that it requires minimal mathematical definitions for this generalization, and necessary in that it provides a means of expressing solutions to a number of physical problems of fundamental nature. This generalization expresses the exact solutions for general-relativistic self-gravitating N-body systems in one spatial and one time dimension, and a previously unknown mathematical link between the (1+1) gravity problem and the Schrödinger wave equation.  相似文献

The temperature dependence observed in the mid- and near-infrared optical properties of YBa2Cu3O7 is explained in terms of the Drude model for free charge carriers. In the Drude model, the linear temperature dependence of the dc resistivity arises from the free charge carriers having a temperature-dependent mean free path. This temperature dependence results in the plasmon contribution to the dielectric constant having a damping coefficient which also varies linearly with temperature. We find that the temperature dependence which is observed in the absorption and reflection spectra of YBa2Cu3O7 is consistent with this simple model.  相似文献

A comprehensive series of time-related behavioral, physiological and cerebral metabolic studies was conducted using conscious Sprague-Dawley rats to discern the anti-endothelin (ET) properties of the specific ETA receptor antagonist, FR139317. Endothelin-1 (9 pmol given by injection into one lateral ventricle, i.c.v.) produced convulsions, acute arterial hypertension, arterial hyperglycemia, and hyperventilation. Brain structures close to the i.c.v. site of injection, such as the caudate nucleus, lateral septal nucleus, corpus callosum and hippocampal CA3 medial lamellae, as well as 14 other individual structures, displayed moderate-to-intense levels of metabolic activation after endothelin. Data were assessed quantitatively by means of the autoradiographic [14C]deoxyglucose technique combined with image analysis. Neural circuits in the efferent projection paths of the stimulated forebrain structures, such as the midbrain oculomotor complex, amygdaloid nuclei, substantia nigra pars reticulata and caudal subicular subregions of the hippocampal formation, were stimulated focally by endothelin. Specific medullary nuclei and cerebellar cortical subregions displayed high rates of glucose metabolism following endothelin injection at the time of maximum behavioral and physiological stimulation. I.c.v. treatment with > or = 14 nmol FR139317 before endothelin significantly inhibited the effects produced by the peptide. At the highest dose of FR139317 (28 nmol), there was only mild behavioral stimulation following endothelin injection, and hypermetabolic responses in the brain were abolished except in two specific areas of the cerebellar cortex (approx 40% increases in metabolic activity in the copula pyramis and paramedian lobule). The results indicate that the cerebral stimulatory effects of i.c.v. endothelin are mediated by the A type of endothelin receptor. By itself, i.c.v. FR139317 had no effects on the parameters assessed. Further evaluation of FR139317 is warranted as a possible therapeutic agent for neuropathologies suspected of deriving from central neural or vascular stimulation by endothelin, such as aneurysmal vasospasm, ischemia, excitotoxicity, and peptide-mediated epilepsies.  相似文献

Four normal pancreas, 8 chronic pancreatitis specimens, and 30 non-endocrine pancreatic tumors from humans and 6 normal and 6 induced pancreatic cancers in hamsters were examined immunohistochemically by antibodies against human transforming growth factor-alpha (TGF-alpha) and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). Two normal pancreas and two pancreatic cancer specimens from each species were also studied immunoelectron microscopically by the immunogold method. In chronic pancreatitis, the reactivity and intensity of the staining with both antibodies were much greater in ductal/ductular cells than in the normal pancreas. All 30 pancreatic cancers reacted with both antibodies with a variable degree of reactivity and staining intensity. No correlation was found between the histological type of tumors, the degree of tumor differentiation, and the incidence and patterns of reactivity of either antibody. Immunoelectron microscopically, both EGFR and TGF-alpha were demonstrated primarily on the basal membrane. In the normal hamster pancreas, TGF-alpha was overexpressed in the alpha-cells but not in any other islet cells. Both TGF-alpha and EGFR were marginally detectable in the exocrine pancreas and in induced pancreatic lesions. This is the first demonstration of subcellular localization of TGF-alpha and EGFR in the normal and diseased human and hamster pancreas.  相似文献

Currently, the pig species is regarded as the most likely organ donor for human xenotransplantation in the future. However, it cannot be granted that the pig will be the optimal species of choice. We have studied human anti-sheep antibodies in comparison with anti-pig antibodies. The anti-sheep lymphocytotoxic and hemagglutination titers were in the range 8 to 128 and 2 to 32, respectively, in single individuals, which were considerably lower than the anti-pig titers of these individuals. Perfusion of sheep kidneys with human blood reduced the anti-sheep xenoantibody titers to zero as measured by lymphocytotoxic, hemagglutination, and sheep aortic endothelial cell antibody binding assays. The perfused kidneys showed generalised depositions of human IgM and C3c in the vascular tree and focal depositions of C1q and fibrin. Obliteration of capillaries by human platelets and polymorphonuclear cells were observed. Total neutral glycolipid fractions were isolated from sheep intestinal, pancreatic, and kidney tissues. By using a chromatogram binding assay, a monoclonal anti-Forssman antibody identified a single compound with five sugar residues in all organs. Several glycolipid bands were stained in all organs by the Gal(alpha)1-specific lectin I-B4 from Griffonia (Bandeiraea) Simplicifolia. A human AB serum pool showed staining by both IgG and IgM antibodies of the Forssman and Gal(alpha)1-terminating components as well as some other, not structurally identified, components. The Forssman and Gal(alpha)1-reactivity in human sera could be eliminated by immunoadsorption using Forssman and Gal(alpha)1-3Gal-immunoadsorbent columns, respectively. Immunostaining of sheep kidney tissue sections showed the presence of Gal(alpha)1-terminating epitopes by immunoperoxidase and immunogold silver staining techniques. Proximal convoluted tubules showed a strong staining, while thin loops of Henle, collecting ducts, urothelium, and vessels showed a weaker staining. Distal convoluted tubules and thick loops of Henle were completely negative. In summary, human serum contains anti-sheep xenoantibodies reacting mainly with the Forssman and Gal(alpha)1-determinants in sheep tissues and the anti-sheep antibody titers are lower than the corresponding anti-pig titers.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: There is substantial evidence demonstrating the aggravating effect of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection on the progression of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. There is however, little data on the affect of certain factors which could affect liver pathology findings in patients with concomitant HIV infection such as the duration of HIV infection or T-cell subpopulation counts. We examined pathology findings in patients with concomitant HIV and HCV infections to determine the impact of immunodepression. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We reviewed liver pathology data collected in patients with concomitant HIV and HCV infections grouping patients according to severity of the liver pathology: group 1 = cirrhosis or active hepatitis; group 2 = minimally active hepatitis or histologically normal liver. Transparietal liver biopsies were obtained for the work-up of viral hepatitis or because of long-term unexplained fever or suspected lymphoma. Epidemiological and biological data were obtained from medical files. The duration of the liver disease was estimated from the date of exposure to risk of immunodepression as determined by the peripheral CD4+ and CD8+ counts. All pathology specimens were read by two pathologists who established the Knodell score for each patient. RESULTS: Fifty patients were included: 23 were classed in group 1 and 28 in group 2. The Knodell score was significantly different between the two groups, 11 +/- 4 and 4 +/- 3 respectively (p < 0.0001). Disease duration was similar for the two groups: mean 8 years. Mean CD4+ count was significantly higher in group 1: 312/mm3 versus 110/mm3 for group 2 (p = 0.0057); as was the mean CD8+ count (758/mm3 versus 360/mm3, p = 0.0013). For the entire study population, there was a significantly negative correlation (p < 0.05) between the Knodell score and the CD4+ count (r = 0.31) and for the CD8+ count (r = 0.41). CONCLUSION: HCV-related liver pathology in patients co-infected with HIV depends on the level of immunodepression. CD8+ counts are better correlated with pathology findings than with CD4+ counts.  相似文献

Mathematical analogies are developed between the formalism used to describe regenerative pulsations accompanying optical bistability in ferroelectrics and that used to parametrize the transition from steady flow to laminar vortex generation in viscous fluids. An “effective Reynolds number” and an “effective specific viscosity” are both defined for the optical bistability model. The characteristic length in the problem is defined in a way similar to that in Abrikosov's theory of Type II superconductors.  相似文献
