Microprocessor and other lC performance continues to improve at historic rates, with no visible end in sight for the next 10 years. However, we are starting to encounter a power wall. This is true for high-performance components as well as for low-power chips with a very limited energy budget offered by batteries. We need to find ways to manage power and energy consumption on all fronts-technology, design, and architecture-without compromising performance. Otherwise, we may face discontinuation of Moore's law for the semiconductor industry in the near future. This would be triggered not by any difficulty in the scaling of process technology but by formidable barriers posed by packaging and cooling, inefficacy of power delivery, and energy constraints dictated by battery technology, which is advancing at a very lukewarm pace  相似文献

The cardioprotective effects of EGb 761 on the release of nitric oxide (NO), the concentration of serum thiobarbituric acid reaction substance (TBARS), the activity of creatine kinase (CK) and the incidence of ventricular arrhythmias were investigated in myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury in vivo. Using sodium nitrite (NaNO2) as standard source of nitric oxide (NO), we compared the correlation coefficients of the three measuring methods used currently in the determination of NOFe2+(DETC)2 complex with that of the measuring method suggested in this study. The result showed that measuring the whole height of three splitting signals is the best linear correlation to the concentration of NO comparing with other methods in this system. Using this method, we observed the effects of EGb 761 on NOFe2+(DETC)2 complex in myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury in vivo. The hearts of the Wistar rats were subjected to 30 min of ischemia and 10 min of reperfusion in vivo. Different doses of EGb 761 (25, 50, 100, 200 mg/kg i.p.), superoxide dismutase (SOD, 10(4) U/kg), l-arginine (50 mg/kg i.p.) and nitric oxide synthase (NOS) inhibitor NG-nitro-l-arginine (NNA, 50 mg/kg i.p.) were administered to the ischemia-reperfusion rats. EGb 761 under the dose of 100 mg/kg increased the signal intensity of NOFe2+(DETC)2 complex, while EGb 761 at 200 mg/kg showed an effect of decreasing the signal intensity of NOFe2+(DETC)2 complex. EGb 761 inhibited the formation of TBARS, the release of CK, and mitigated the incidence of ventricular arrhythmias in a dose dependent way. Both l-arginine and SOD increased the signal intensity of NOFe2+(DETC)2 complex and inhibited the formation of TBARS, the leakage of CK and the incidence of ventricular arrhythmia. NNA not only had no protective effects on myocardial injury, but also increased the incidence of reperfusion-induced arrhythmia. In conclusion, EGb 761 has cardiovascular protective effects by means of adjusting the level of NO and inhibiting oxygen free radicals induced lipid peroxidation in myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury in vivo.  相似文献

Electrodynamic speakers compatible with (functional) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are described. The speakers magnets are removed, their function is replaced by the scanner's magnetic field, resulting in an uncommon but efficient operation. The method can be used with headphones as well as woofers. Functional MRI is not associated with any known biological risks, but as a method for visualization of task-specific activation of brain regions it is undesirably noisy. Thus, it requires both noise protection and efficient sound transmission systems for delivering acoustic stimuli to subjects. Woofers could possibly be used in active noise-control systems. The speakers described in this paper can be used for either task.  相似文献

In order to demonstrate that gravity is not only a load acting locally and continuously on the body limbs, but is also used by higher levels of the nervous system as a dynamic orienting reference for the elaboration of the motor act, a review of several experiments conducted both in 1 g and 0 g are presented. During various locomotor tasks, the strategy that consists of stabilizing the head with respect to gravity illustrates one of the solutions used by the CNS to optimize the control of dynamic equilibrium. A question which remains to be solved when considering experimental results obtained in weightlessness concerns, however, the maintenance of motor schema that has evolved under normal gravity. Results have suggested that the concept of conservative processes, that would adapt postural control to weightlessness by using previously learned innate strategies, must be reconsidered during goal-oriented tasks. In fact, it is proposed that when conservative processes and existing solutions derived from a repertoire of terrestrial postural strategies do not provide efficient output, the CNS has to create novel strategies through a slow learning process. As with the study of postural control, three-dimensional arm reaching movements also illustrate the central representation of gravity. Indeed, gravity can be regarded as either initiating or braking arm movements and, consequently, may be represented in the motor command at the planning level. Finally, from a prospective point of view, there is a need to determine new experimental paradigms in order to study the specific motor control of man in space. It is suggested that the formulation of experimental paradigms should not consider man in space simply as a terrestrial biped.  相似文献

The spectral characteristics of a widely tunable super structure grating distributed Bragg reflector (SSG-DBR) laser are investigated and the design considerations of the grating reflectors are given. This paper describes a flexible random allocation program that assigns treatments to patients according to their prognostic factors in multi-institutional clinical trials. The source lists are available in the appendix of this paper. This program is based on Pocock and Simon's minimization method and Zelen's method for institution balancing. The numbers of institutions, treatments, and prognostic factors can be set arbitrarily. The maximum number of institutions, treatments, or prognostic factors that can be accommodated by the program is limited only by the size of the main memory. For example, an IBM-PC with a 640KB main memory can run a program of 1500 institutions, 4 treatments and 20 prognostic factors.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To assess the hypoglycemic effect and the insulin-releasing effect of the main glyburide (glibenclamide) metabolites 4-trans-hydroxy-glibenclamide (M1) and 3-cis-hydroxy-glibenclamide (M2) in humans. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: Eight healthy subjects participated in a placebo-controlled, randomized, single-blind crossover study with five single-dose tests, 3 months apart: 3.5 mg glibenclamide (Gb) orally, 3.5 mg Gb intravenously, 3.5 mg M1 intravenously, 3.5 mg M2 intravenously, and placebo intravenously, each in the fasting state. Standardized meals were given 0.5 and 5.5 h after each medication. Blood glucose levels were measured by a glucose oxidase method, and serum insulin concentrations were analyzed by a specific immunoassay. RESULTS: Blood glucose levels during the first 5 h were significantly lowered not only by Gb but also by M1 and M2. The mean +/- SE blood glucose reductions (versus placebo) expressed as percent of area under the curve (AUC) (0-5 h) were 18.2 +/- 3.3% for M1, 12.5 +/- 2.3% for M2, 19.9 +/- 2.1% for intravenous Gb, and 23.8 +/- 1.2% for Gb orally. Serum insulin levels were significantly increased by Gb as well as by M1 and M2. and M2. CONCLUSIONS: The two main metabolites of glyburide (glibenclamide) have a hypoglycemic effect in humans, which is due to increased insulin secretion.  相似文献
