The use of a commercial optical time domain reflectometry device for simultaneous wavelength and time domain multiplexing of fiber-optic Bragg grating sensors is proposed and demonstrated. The realization of such systems provides an inexpensive way of interrogating several hundreds of sensors in a single fiber. A new diffuser capable of scattering light in one direction (one-dimensional diffuser) has been developed and experimentally
tested. The diffuser is formed in a thick layer of dichromated gelatin. The scattering indicatrices of the diffuser measured
in two mutually perpendicular directions are presented. It is demonstrated that the indicatrix width in one direction is significantly
greater than that in the perpendicular direc-tion. However, no zero-order diffraction has been observed. The proposed one-dimensional

A method of measuring static and pulsed pressures using electrically conducting rubber sensors is proposed. The method is
based on a change in the volume resistivity of a filled rubber under the action of external pressure. The pressure-induced
change in resistance of the rubber sensor is proportional to the applied pressure and can be measured by a bridge circuit.
Using this method, it is possible to evaluate the degree of homogeneity of the pressure distribution over a solid surface.

On-line partial discharge (PD) detection of three-phase belted medium voltage cable connections results in a number of interpretation differences as compared to off-line measurements where only one phase is energized. The induced currents and charges in the phase conductors and earth screen upon a PD not only depend on the discharge site, but also become phase angle dependent. Furthermore, simulations show that the PD distribution itself varies with the amount of eccentricity of the rotating electric field and may differ from the off-line distributions obtained with a linear field. Finally, the PD propagation in a multi-conductor cable also alters the signals measured at the cable terminals. Performance properties are established for the dissemination by flooding of a database that is initially distributed among the nodes of a communications network. An example of this general process is the dissemination of network status information as a component of the adaptive routing mechanism in a network like Arpanet. Bounds are given on the progress of the dissemination process at a sequence of times before the completion of the process, whereas earlier results only bounded the time until completion. The present bounds further extended earlier analysis by treating the diameter explicitly as a parameter. Specialized versions of the bounds are given for k -connected networks. The bounds yield a recognition property whereby a node can recognize that it has received the entire database without having a priori knowledge of the size of the database. In this paper, we examine methods of characterizing somatosensory evoked potentials (SEP's) in both the time and frequency domains. We have found that the truncated impulse response (TIR) method produced an accurate time domain model of the SEP signals at model orders greatly reduced from the original state space matrix. The TIR method was valuable for smoothing signals that were slightly corrupted by noise. In this case, the simulated data sequence was close to the original data sequence in the mean squared error sense. For signals that were greatly corrupted by noise, the TIR method was not able to perform as well. Therefore, the TIR method was not a feature extraction method but was valuable for data simulation. In the frequency domain, we have used the autoregressive moving average model (ARMA) to parameterize the SEP signal. An overdetermined set of Yule-Walker equations was created to determine the autoregressive (AR) parameters of the original data with the model order established by the singular value decomposition. From these AR parameters, a residual time series was generated which was used to find the moving average parameters. The resulting ARMA model was used to produce a simulated data sequence. The frequency domain characteristics of the simulated sequence and the corresponding power spectral density of the ARMA filter were very close to the periodogram of the original data sequence.
