An analytical one-dimensional model was developed to predict the effect of the different kiln variables on the regenerative heat transfer by the wall in a rotary kiln. The basis of this model is introducing a lumped capacity layer with infinite conductivity in radial direction. The thickness of this layer is determined from the heat penetration in a semi-infinite body. The parameters considered are kiln diameter, rotational speed, filling degree, material properties of the wall, and gas-to-wall and wall-to-solid heat transfer. From the model, it can be concluded that in technical rotary kilns, the regenerative heat transfer by the wall is much smaller than the direct heat flow from the gas. Nevertheless, under the slumping condition and in laboratory kilns, the effect of the wall can be up to 40%. 相似文献

A small (1 L) batch stirred cell system has been developed to study crude oil fouling at surface temperatures up to 400°C and pressures up to 30 bar. Fouling resistance–time data are obtained from experiments in which the principal operating variables are surface shear stress, surface temperature, heat flux, and crude oil type. The oils and deposits are characterized and correlated with the experimental heat transfer fouling data to understand better the effects of process conditions such as surface temperature and surface shear stress on the fouling process. Deposits are subjected to a range of qualitative and quantitative analyses in order to gain a better insight into the crude oil fouling phenomenon. Thermal data that can be obtained relatively quickly from the batch cell provide fouling rates, Arrhenius plots, and apparent activation energies as a function of process variables. The experimental system, supported by computational fluid dynamics (CFD) studies, allows fouling threshold conditions of surface temperature and shear stress to be identified relatively quickly in the laboratory. An experimental evaluation of insulation effectiveness, pull-down times and effectiveness of a mechanical refrigeration unit was performed on five refrigerated panel vans. Additionally, a mapping of temperature variability in the cargo space was carried out during a simulated journey encompassing several door openings. The temperature variability measured in the vans was neither correlated to the effectiveness of the insulation nor the time required to achieve complete cooling of the cargo space. These criteria are common thermal performance indicators used to evaluate refrigerated vehicles in international standards. The efficiency of insulation was correlated to the pull-down times, presenting the possibility of calculating the former as a function of the latter. The temperature variability was correlated with the time required for the unit to recover temperature control after a door opening and the difference between the maximum and minimum temperatures reached during a door opening cycle. 相似文献

The design and utilisation of a reactor for the optimisation of multiple heterogeneous catalytic reactions in liquid phase is described. With the ability to screen up to 25 samples simultaneously at a maximum pressure of 50 bar, the reactor is one of the first to be designed specifically for what is termed stage II, the optimisation phase, of catalytic high throughput experimentation (HTE). Experiments demonstrating the reliability and reproducibility of the reactor are described, including the use of the reactor to study the catalytic hydrogenation of crotonaldehyde (CrAld) over bimetallic samples based on a commercial 5 wt.% Pt on activated carbon catalyst. Modification of the mono-metallic Pt sample by the impregnation of aqueous metal salts and various pre-treatments, resulted in 140 bimetallic catalysts that were used in the hydrogenation study. The changes observed in both selectivity and reactivity of the modified catalysts are described and show, by way of example, how the speed of catalyst screening can be increased by at least an order of magnitude. 相似文献

The synthesis and characterization of three new bis(2,2′:6′,2′-terpyridine) (tpy) ligands containing different hydrazone spacers between the metal-binding domains are described. Treatment of 1,4-benzenedicarbaldehyde bis(2,2′:6′,2′′-terpyridin-4′-ylhydrazone) (1) with [(tpy)RuCl3] in the presence of N-ethylmorpholine results in the formation of [(tpy)Ru(μ-1)Ru(tpy)]4+. The occurrence of ochratoxin A, trichothecenes, fumonisins and aflatoxins in a sample of 106 beers produced in several European countries, was investigated. The analyses were conducted using high-performance liquid chromatography with fluorimetric detection for ochratoxin A and aflatoxins, gas-chromatography and high-performance liquid chromatography, both coupled with mass spectrometer, for trichothecenes and fumonisins, respectively. Aflatoxins were not detected in any samples, whereas ochratoxin A, deoxynivalenol and fumonisins were found in a relatively high number of samples. Their presence was at low levels in all samples; however, some differences were observed between the European countries. As regards ochratoxin A, beer samples from southern Europe showed levels always lower than 0.040 μg l?1, while the samples from other European countries showed significantly higher values, up to 0.189 μg l?1 (P < 0.001). For fumonisins, the levels of Italian beers were significantly higher compared to the samples from other countries (P = 0.006). 相似文献

A cupronickel heat exchanger failed after 10?years of service. The cooling heat exchanger was in service in a marine environment, with water flowing along shellside and natural gas along tubeside. Many tubes showed leakages during a regular maintenance test. A comprehensive failure analysis of the heat exchanger revealed the de-nickelification process on the external side of the damaged tubes (shellside). The de-nickelification originated from a large deposit of sea water scale, over tube lengths, which completely covered the area just outside the internal portion of the tubesheet, and occurred because of a failure of the regular cleaning operation.
