This research examines whether people who experience epistemic motivation (i.e., a desire to acquire knowledge) came to have implicit attitudes consistent with the apparent beliefs of another person. People had lower implicit prejudice when they experienced epistemic motivation and interacted with a person who ostensibly held egalitarian beliefs (Experiments 1 and 2). Implicit prejudice was not affected when people did not experience epistemic motivation. Further evidence shows that this tuning of implicit attitudes occurs when beliefs are endorsed by another person, but not when they are brought to mind via means that do not imply that person's endorsement (Experiment 3). Results suggest that implicit attitudes of epistemically motivated people tune to the apparent beliefs of others to achieve shared reality. A technique to improve the adaptation transient in discrete-time model reference adaptive control (MRAC) systems is given on the basis of applying classical optimization techniques to an equivalent near-linear system to the whole adaptive scheme. The resulting optimization is finally translated into modifications of one of the parameters entering the adaptation algorithm. This permits computation of a posteriori values of the adaptive controller parameters before generation of the input to the plant.  相似文献

A pattern recognition approach was applied to the analysis of ultrasonic echo signals from two classes of aluminum-to-aluminum adhesive bonds. The two classes differed in the surface preparation of the adherends prior to bonding, resulting in different interfacial properties of the joints. These properties have a crucial effect on the long-term adhesive properties of the specimens. Application of advanced signal processing and pattern recognition techniques enabled the classification of the joints according to the surface preparation of the adherends, based on features extracted from the ultrasonic signals. The statistics yielded an upper bound for the probability of mis-classification of the specimens. The sensitivity of certain features, extracted from the ultrasonic signal, to the interfacial characteristics of the specimens is explained by means of the natural frequencies of a joint's components and surface condition of the adherends. This leads to a method for selecting the optimal probe frequency for carrying out the ultrasonic inspection.  相似文献

Energy arguments remain, even today, as probably the most fundamental physically-reasoned justification for the application of linear elastic fracture mechanics to brittle materials. Accordingly, they have attracted and continue to attract quite a number of investigations. Not all of these studies employ the same approach. Unfortunately, nor do they all lead to the same conclusions regarding the implications of elastic fracture mechanics. Here, by examining the energy balance of fracture mechanics from a classical physics viewpoint, equivalent valid approaches are identified. A mobile robot needs to know its position and orientation with accuracy in order to decide the control actions that permit it to finish the entrusted tasks successfully. To obtain this information, dead-reckoning-based systems have been used, and more recently inertial navigation systems. However, these systems have some errors that grow bigger as time goes by, therefore a moment comes when the information provided is useless. Because of this, there should be a periodic process that updates the robot position and orientation of the vehicle. The process to determine the robot position and orientation by using information originated from the external sensors is defined as the mobile robot relocalization. It is obvious that the greater the frequency of this process, the better the knowledge of its position the robot will have, and therefore its movements will be better directed to the point it must reach. The algorithm to achieve this can be classified in two large groups: relocalization through an a priori map of the environment and relocalization through the detection of landmarks present in that environment. The algorithm presented in the paper belongs to the first case. The sensor used is a combination of a laser diode and a CCD camera. The sensorial information is modelled as straight lines that will be matched with an a priori map of the environment. With this, the position of the mobile robot is estimated. The matching process is accomplished within an extended Kalman filter. The algorithm is able to work in real time, and it actualizes the position of the robot in a continuous way.  相似文献

In previous studies, dolasetron was shown to have both renal and hepatic elimination mechanisms. This study was conducted to determine the impact of varying degrees of hepatic dysfunction on the pharmacokinetics and safety of dolasetron and its reduced metabolites. Seventeen adults were studied: six healthy volunteers (group I), seven patients with mild hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh class A; group II), and four patients with moderate to severe hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh class B or C1; group III). Single 150-mg doses of dolasetron mesylate were administered intravenously and orally, with a 7-day washout period separating treatments. After intravenous administration, no differences were observed between healthy volunteers and patients with hepatic impairment in maximum plasma concentration (Cmax), areas under the plasma concentration-time curve (AUC), or elimination half-life (t1/2) of intact dolasetron. No significant differences were found in Cmax, AUC, or apparent clearance (C(lapp)) of hydrodolasetron, the primary metabolite of dolasetron. The mean t1/2 increased from 6.87 hours in group I to 11.69 hours in group III. After oral administration, C(lapp) of hydrodolasetron decreased by 42%, and Cmax increased by 18% in patients with moderate to severe hepatic impairment. There were less changes in patients with mildly hepatic impairment. Total percentage of dose excreted as metabolites was similar for healthy volunteers and patients with hepatic impairment, although urinary metabolite profiles differed slightly. Dolasetron was well tolerated and there were no apparent differences in adverse effects between groups or treatments. Because hepatic impairment did not influence Cl(app) of hydrodolasetron after intravenous administration, and the range of plasma concentrations of hydrodolasetron after oral administration was not different from those observed in healthy volunteers, dosage adjustments are not recommended for patients with hepatic disease and normal renal function.  相似文献

STUDY DESIGN: Pedicle screws were pulled out of human cadaveric vertebrae before and after augmentation with polymethylmethacrylate or in situ-setting calcium phosphate cement. The fixation strength of screws augmented with calcium phosphate cement was compared with that of screws augmented with polymethylmethacrylate. OBJECTIVES: To determine whether a new in situ-setting calcium phosphate cement might be suitable for augmenting the fixation of pedicle screws. The principle objective was to compare the pull-out resistance of screws augmented with calcium phosphate cement with the pull-out behavior of screws augmented with polymethylmethacrylate. Polymethylmethacrylate augmentation was chosen as the standard because of its current clinical use. Five types of screws were tested to determine whether screw design had an effect on the efficacy of augmentation. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: Although many factors affect the pull-out resistance of pedicle screws, a key determinant of their performance is the strength of their attachment to the spine. In elderly, osteopenic patients, the screw-bone interface is especially at risk for stripping during insertion or pull-out after surgery. In these patients, polymethylmethacrylate has been used to augment pedicle screw fixation, although its use is not without risk. In situ-setting calcium phosphate cements may provide an alternative to polymethylmethacrylate in this application. Like polymethylmethacrylate, calcium phosphate cements can be injected into the prepared screw hole. They have the added advantage of being resorbed and replaced during healing and normal bone remodeling. METHODS: Thirty human lower lumbar vertebrae (L3-L5) were implanted bilaterally with one of five types of pedicle screws (n = 6 for each screw type). The screws were pulled out 3.0 mm at 0.25 mm/sec with a servohydraulic materials testing machine. The 3.0-mm pull-out distance, which was slightly longer than one thread pitch, was designed to strip the screw-bone interface but to leave the pedicle otherwise intact. After the initial testing, the screws in each vertebrae were removed, and the screw tracks were filled with 2.0 cc of polymethylmethacrylate (one side) or calcium phosphate cement (contralateral side). After augmentation, the screws were reinserted, and the cements were allowed to harden for 24 hours. Postaugmentation testing followed the protocols for preaugmentation testing, and the pull-out resistance of screws augmented with calcium phosphate cement was compared with the pull-out resistance of screws augmented with polymethylmethacrylate. RESULTS: Mechanically, calcium phosphate cement compared favorably with polymethylmethacrylate for augmenting pedicle screws. Both restored the strength of the screw-bone interface: across all screw types, the average increase in pull-out strength was 147% with polymethylmethacrylate augmentation and 102% with calcium phosphate cement. There were no significant differences because of screw type with either type of augmentation. CONCLUSIONS: The in situ-setting calcium phosphate cement investigated in this study compared favorably with polymethylmethacrylate in a single-cycle, pull-out test of augmented pedicle screws in senile trabecular bone. With further evaluation, this cement may offer an alternative to polymethylmethacrylate for the enhancement of pedicle screw fixation clinically.  相似文献

The genetic analysis of human papillomavirus (HPV) functions during the vegetative viral life cycle is dependent upon the ability to generate human keratinocyte cell lines which maintain episomal copies of transfected viral genomes. We have previously demonstrated that lipofection of normal human foreskin keratinocytes with recircularized cloned HPV-31 genomic sequences resulted in a high frequency of cell lines which maintained viral genomes as extrachromosomal elements (M.G. Frattini, H. Lim, and L.A. Laimins, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 93:3062-3067, 1996). Following the growth of these cell lines in organotypic (raft) cultures, the differentiation-dependent expression of viral late genes, the amplification of viral genomes, and virion biosynthesis were observed. In the present study, we demonstrate that these methodologies are not restricted to HPV-31 but are applicable to other HPV types, including the oncogenic HPV-18. HPV-18 genomes were purified from bacterial vector sequences, religated, and transfected into normal human foreskin keratinocytes together with a neomycin-selectable marker. Following drug selection, resistant cells were expanded and examined for the state of the viral DNA. All cell lines examined were found to contain approximately 100 to 200 episomal copies of HPV-18 DNA per cell. Growth of these cell lines in raft cultures resulted in the differentiation-dependent expression of the E1 [symbol: see text] E4 and L1 capsid genes. In addition, viral genome amplification was observed in suprabasal cells following DNA in situ hybridization analysis of differentiated raft cultures. The induction of these late viral functions has previously been shown to be directly associated with differentiation-dependent virion biosynthesis. Our studies indicate the ability to perform a detailed genetic analysis of the various phases of the viral life cycle, including control of the differentiation-dependent late viral functions, using a second oncogenic HPV type.  相似文献
