Definition of the problem:
Being satisfied with one’s work depends on professional autonomy, which is attributed to the medical profession to a high degree, combined with specialized knowledge and moral authority for vital questions. That is why physicians enjoy a high reputation. At the beginning of a person's medical career, moral competence is developed nearly completely, but specialized knowledge must be learned. Hospitals, in which further medical education regularly takes place, are still traditionally hierarchically organized today. Unfortunately, feudalistic or military structures hinder autonomous moral decisions and cause structural irresponsibility.Arguments:
Obstructions and pressure by superiors, financial restrictions, arrogance and trying to make one's mark are shown in typical conflict situations. Stress, discontent, moral conflicts and illness, even including burn out are possible. Commitment and creativity by employees are prevented and mistakes cannot be constructively managed. Thus, patients may suffer unreasonably or be hurt.Conclusion:
There is a risk to subordinate moral principles under other interests, not only with subordinates but also with superiors. Ways to create a culture that promotes autonomy among physicians and between different professions are discussed. This paper presents procedures for efficient design sensitivity analysis for shape memory alloy (SMA) structures modeled with shell elements. Availability of sensitivity information at low computational cost can dramatically improve the efficiency of the optimization process, as it enables use of efficient gradient-based optimization algorithms. The formulation and computation of design sensitivities of SMA shell structures using the direct differentiation method is considered, in a steady state electro-thermo-mechanical finite element context. Work on single tone frequency estimation has focused on uniformly sampled data. However, it has been shown that, for a given number of samples, more information on the frequency of a signal can be gained by non-uniform sampling schemes [M. Wieler, S. Trittler, F.A. Hamprecht, Optimal design for single tone frequency estimation, Digital Signal Process., in press]. Unfortunately, an optimum sampling pattern (that, for example, minimizes the Cramér–Rao bound) does not automatically have a fast and simple algorithm for frequency estimation associated with it. For application in an interferometric measurement system, an algorithm is needed that gathers as much information as possible from a low number of samples, while at the same time keeping the computational effort sufficiently low to process millions of time series in a few seconds. This paper proposes a simple approximation to the optimum sampling pattern by using uniformly sampled blocks of data and further proposes to estimate phase and frequency in each of these blocks and to exploit these intermediate results in the final estimation. An approach to do so is investigated in detail. Results are compared to the Cramér–Rao bound (CRB), and it is shown that this algorithm almost reaches this limit on the variance of unbiased estimators, at a computational complexity lower than that of a typical FFT-based approach. For samples and a signal-to-noise ratio of 10, the standard deviation of the frequency estimate is lower by more than 50% compared to uniform sampling. In addition, the algorithm can easily be applied to poorly characterized systems, e.g. systems for which the noise is not known exactly. Finally, we demonstrate that the proposed strategy yields results that are within 3% of the theoretically achievable accuracy for the theoretically optimum sampling pattern. 相似文献

Scatter search and genetic algorithms have originated from somewhat different traditions and perspectives, yet exhibit features that are strongly complementary. Links between the approaches have increased in recent years as variants of genetic algorithms have been introduced that embody themes in closer harmony with those of scatter search. Some researchers are now beginning to take advantage of these connections by identifying additional ways to incorporate elements of scatter search into genetic algorithm approaches. There remain aspects of the scatter approach that have not been exploited in conjunction with genetic algorithms, yet that provide ways to achieve goals that are basic to the genetic algorithm design. Part of the gap in implementing hybrids of these procedures may derive from relying too literally on the genetic metaphor, which in its narrower interpretation does not readily accommodate the strategic elements underlying scatter search. The theme of this paper is to show there are benefits to be gained by going beyond a perspective constrained too tightly by the connotations of the term genetic. We show that the scatter search framework directly leads to processes for combining solutions that exhibit special properties for exploiting combinatorial optimization problems. In the setting of zero-one integer programming, we identify a mapping that gives new ways to create combined solutions, producing constructions calledstar-paths for exploring the zero-one solution space. Star-path trajectories have the special property of lying within regions assured to include optimal solutions. They also can be exploited in association with both cutting plane and extreme point solution approaches. The AT&T Internet Difference Engine (AIDE) is a system that finds and displays changes to pages on the World Wide Web. The system consists of several components, including a webcrawler that detects changes, an archive of past versions of pages, a tool called HtmlDiff to highlight changes between versions of a page, and a graphical interface to view the relationship between pages over time. Learner-controlled instruction is often found to be less effective for learning than fixed or adaptive system-controlled instruction. One possible reason for that finding is that students – especially novices – might not able to accurately assess their own performance and select tasks that fit their learning needs. Therefore, this explorative study investigated the differences in self-assessment and task-selection processes between effective and ineffective learners (i.e., in terms of learning gains) studying in a learner-controlled instructional environment. Results indicated that although effective learners could more accurately assess their own performance than ineffective learners, they used the same task aspects to select learning tasks. For effective learners, who were also more accurate self-assessors, the self-assessment criteria predicted subsequent task selection. The results are discussed, particularly with regard to their potential to provide guidelines for the design of a self-assessment and task-selection training. 相似文献

Based on the assumption of a working memory processor devoted to human movement, cognitive load theory is used to explore some conditions under which animated instructions are hypothesised to be more effective for learning than equivalent static graphics. Using paper-folding tasks dealing with human movement, results from three experiments confirmed our hypothesis, indicating a superiority of animation over static graphics. These results are discussed in terms of a working memory processor that may be facilitated by our mirror-neuron system and may explain why animated instructional animations are superior to static graphics for cognitively based tasks that involve human movement. 相似文献

Detection of sulfur dioxide (SO2) at high temperature (600–750 °C) in the presence of some interferents found in combustion exhausts (NO2, NO, CO2, CO, and hydrocarbon (C3H6)) is described. The detection scheme involves use of a catalytic filter in front of a non-Nernstian (mixed-potential) sensing element. The catalytic filter was a Ni:Cr powder bed operating at 850 °C, and the sensing elements were pairs of platinum (Pt) and oxide (Ba-promoted copper chromite ((Ba,Cu)xCryOz) or Sr-modified lanthanum ferrite (LSF)) electrodes on yttria-stabilized zirconia. The Ni:Cr powder bed was capable of reducing the sensing element response to NO2, NO, CO, and C3H6, but the presence of NO2 or NO (“NOx”, at 100 ppm by volume) still interfered with the SO2 response of the Pt–(Ba,Cu)xCryOz sensing element at 600 °C, causing approximately a 7 mV (20%) reduction in the response to 120 ppm SO2 and a response equivalent to about 20 ppm SO2 in the absence of SO2. The Pt–LSF sensing element, operated at 750 °C, did not suffer from this NOx interference but at the cost of a reduced SO2 response magnitude (120 ppm SO2 yielded 10 mV, in contrast to 30 mV for the Pt-(Ba,Cu)xCryOz sensing element). The powder bed and Pt–LSF sensing element were operated continuously over approximately 350 h, and the response to SO2 drifted downward by about 7%, with most of this change occurring during the initial 100 h of operation. 相似文献

Although recent years have seen significant advances in the spatial resolution possible in the transmission electron microscope (TEM), the temporal resolution of most microscopes is limited to video rate at best. This lack of temporal resolution means that our understanding of dynamic processes in materials is extremely limited. High temporal resolution in the TEM can be achieved, however, by replacing the normal thermionic or field emission source with a photoemission source. In this case the temporal resolution is limited only by the ability to create a short pulse of photoexcited electrons in the source, and this can be as short as a few femtoseconds. The operation of the photo-emission source and the control of the subsequent pulse of electrons (containing as many as 5 x 10(7) electrons) create significant challenges for a standard microscope column that is designed to operate with a single electron in the column at any one time. In this paper, the generation and control of electron pulses in the TEM to obtain a temporal resolution <10(-6)s will be described and the effect of the pulse duration and current density on the spatial resolution of the instrument will be examined. The potential of these levels of temporal and spatial resolution for the study of dynamic materials processes will also be discussed. 相似文献
