Clone has emerged as a controversial term in software engineering research and practice. The impact of clones is of great importance from software maintenance perspectives. Stability is a well investigated term in assessing the impacts of clones on software maintenance. If code clones appear to exhibit a higher instability (i.e., higher change-proneness) than non-cloned code, then we can expect that code clones require higher maintenance effort and cost than non-cloned code. A number of studies have been done on the comparative stability of cloned and non-cloned code. However, these studies could not come to a consensus. While some studies show that code clones are more stable than non-cloned code, the other studies provide empirical evidence of higher instability of code clones. The possible reasons behind these contradictory findings are that different studies investigated different aspects of stability using different clone detection tools on different subject systems using different experimental setups. Also, the subject systems were not of wide varieties. Emphasizing these issues (with several others mentioned in the motivation) we have conducted a comprehensive empirical study where we have - (i) implemented and investigated seven existing methodologies that explored different aspects of stability, (ii) used two clone detection tools (NiCad and CCFinderX) to implement each of these seven methodologies, and (iii) investigated the stability of three types (Type-1, Type-2, Type-3) of clones. Our investigation on 12 diverse subject systems covering three programming languages (Java, C, C#) with a list of 8 stability assessment metrics suggest that (i) cloned code is often more unstable (change-prone) than non-cloned code in the maintenance phase, (ii) both Type 1 and Type 3 clones appear to exhibit higher instability than Type 2 clones, (iii) clones in Java and C programming languages are more change-prone than the clones in C#, and (iv) changes to the clones in procedural programming languages seem to be more dispersed than the changes to the clones in object oriented languages. We also systematically replicated the original studies with their original settings and found mostly equivalent results as of the original studies. We believe that our findings are important for prioritizing code clones from management perspectives.  相似文献

The attenuation of radio waves due to rain can be predicted with a good degree of accuracy, provided the rain rate characteristics over the entire path of propagation are known. The attenuation due to rain is usually deduced on the basis of point rain rate, which can lead to inaccuracy in the estimation of attenuation. We use the concept of rate of decay of rain path profile to estimate the attenuation due to rain. The attenuation has been deduced at 11GHz and 13.4 GHz for 56 elevation angle by using the theory of decay rate of rain path profile, its controlling factor, gamma, and rain rate distribution over Delhi, a tropical station in India. The theoretically-estimated attenuation is compared with observed values, as well as with values obtained using the International Radio Consultative Committee (CCIR) method. The CCIR model is found to overestimate the attenuation.  相似文献

This paper presents the recently introduced modified subgradient method for optimization and its effectiveness in a fuzzy transportation model. Here a multi-item balanced transportation problem (MIBTP) is formulated where unit transportation costs are imprecise. Also available spaces and budgets at destinations are limited but imprecise. The objective is to find a shipment schedule for the items that minimizes the total cost subjected to imprecise warehouse and budget constraints at destinations. The proposed model is reduced to a multi-objective optimization problem using tolerances, then to a crisp single-objective one using fuzzy non-linear programming (FNLP) technique and Zimmermann's method. The above fuzzy MIBTP is also reduced to another form of deterministic one using modified sub-gradient method (MSM). These two crisp optimization problems are solved by Genetic Algorithm (GA). As an extension, fuzzy multi-item balanced solid transportation problems (STPs) with and without restrictions on some routes and items are formulated and reduced to deterministic ones following FNLP and Zimmermann's methods. These models are also solved by GA. Models are illustrated numerically, optimum results of fuzzy MIBTP from two deductions are compared. The evolution of microstructure and texture in Al6082 precipitation-hardened alloy during equal-channel angular pressing (ECAP) was studied. It was found that although the dislocation density and the subgrain size saturated after 1 pass, the size of grains bounded by high angle boundaries reached its minimum value only after 4 passes. Furthermore, the grain orientation distribution changes between 4 and 8 passes, indicating the development of grain boundary structure even after the saturation of the parameters of the microstructure. As a result of this evolution, the initial texture of the commercial alloy was diminished after 8 passes and the grain orientation distribution became to be close to random case.  相似文献

A new approach for deposition of in situ nanocrystalline Fe–Si alloy coating on mild steel substrate by mechanical milling has been proposed. The thickness of nanocrystalline coating was a function of milling time and speed. Milling speed of 200 rpm was the optimum condition for development of uniform, hard, adherent and dense 200–300 μm thick nanocrystalline coating. A possible mechanism, consisting of three steps like repeated impact, cold welding and delamination, has been proposed for the formation of coating. These coatings have resulted in the increase of the hardness to almost double the value before coating.  相似文献

This paper presents the theory and performance of a differential induction machine, which is a special type of induction machine having two shafts projected from the two ends of a single stator. Application of a differential load on the two shafts cause them to run at different speed as a motor, which permits true differential movement and thus can meet the requirements of a differential drive in an electric vehicle. The machine is also capable of regeneration in the differential mode. This paper presents the construction of the above machine and performance of the same based on experimental results from a laboratory prototype. The equivalent circuit of the motor has been presented and verified experimentally.  相似文献

Lipids are key constituents of numerous biomedical drug delivery technologies. Here, we present the design, synthesis and biophysical characterizations of a library of cationic lipids containing an acetal residue in their linker region. These cationic acetal lipids (CALs) were conveniently prepared through a trans-acetalization protocol from commercially available precursors. NMR studies highlighted the conformational rigidity at the acetal residue and the high hydrolytic stability of these CALs. Fluorescence anisotropy studies revealed that the CAL with a pyridinium headgroup (CAL1) formed highly cohesive vesicular aggregates in water. These structural and self-assembly features of the CAL1 allowed up to 196 % w/w loading of curcumin (Cur) as a representative hydrophobic drug. A reconstitutable formulation of Cur was obtained as a result, which could deliver the drug inside mammalian cells with very high efficiency. The hemocompatibility and cytocompatibility of CAL1 was significantly enhanced by creating a coating of polydopamine (PDA) onto its vesicular assemblies to produce hybrid lipid-polymer nanocapsules. This work demonstrates rapid access to the useful synthetic lipid formulations with high potential in drug and gene delivery applications.  相似文献

This is the second of a two part paper aimed at investigating the effects of microstructural morphology, material properties and loading on rate-dependent ductile fracture of heterogeneous materials. The locally enhanced Voronoi cell finite element method (LE-VCFEM) is used for micromechanical analyses of deformation and failure in complex microstructural volume elements. The first part of this paper sequence evaluates the sensitivity of strain to failure of computer simulated microstructures to loading rate, microstructural morphology and material properties. In this second part, LE-VCFEM simulations of actual microstructures of a cast aluminum alloy micrograph are used to validate a strain to failure model developed in the first part. A method for identification of critical regions within a heterogeneous microstructure is also developed and validated using in-situ observations of a two-point bending test. The influence of applied strain rates on ductile fracture of micrograph-based complex microstructures is also investigated.  相似文献
